Pardon Day 2022
    jail cell
To pardon is the act of forgiving or being forgiven for some error or offense, perceived or actual.

In governmental affairs a pardon allows a person to be relieved of some or all of the legal consequences resulting from a criminal conviction.

There have been pardons with which I agree.

There have been other pardons with which I do not agree.

At any rate, I feel the pardon is a necessary construct given our present state of prejudice in judges, juries, and those individuals who would convict a citizen in the court of public opinion because so often we witness flaws and mistakes of fairness with those who don't bother to get the facts ...

Particularly among those who don't even understand the science of genetics or propriety and comportment in polite company.

September 8 brings us Pardon Day. Pardons provide a release mechanism for the mistakes of integrity we find in our legal system.

Political punishments in particular by heavy handed politicians finding themself able to wield power are the primary impetus for the pardon. Over time grudges may form and allegiances may become broken.

It is important that the powerful cannot punish others with a lack of objectivity and impunity into perpetuity.
The negative nuances of punishment need this mechanism for evaluation and relief when it is utterly warranted.

I am one of those who is likely to bear a grudge.

I have several for sitting and ex chief executives which will likely never be resoloved to my satisfaction.

While contentious spirits clash Pardon Day provides recognition of that release valve society may need and is a prime mover of the mercy and correction of overstepping heavy handed misuse of power becoming more frequent in these, our latter days.

Pardon day stimulates an environment of forgiveness which might not ever exist otherwise.

Pardon me, but just be glad I can't chop your head off.

Grandma Moses Day 2022
Anna Mary Robertson Moses aka Grandma Moses

My first encounter with Grandma Moses was after she had passed.
There was a news item on the Today show back when Hugh Downs was in charge.

This was a diferent time and place from the woke joke Craig Melvin 30 pieces of silver liar format presently in use.

They did a piece on her and showed some of her works.

They also spoke of how her painting career didn't even start until she was 78.

She has had great commercial success and graced magazine covers, appeared on television and even had a biographical documentary.

She won numerous awards as well and was awarded two honorary doctorates.

Grandma Moses Day is observed each September 7.

It brings light to the talents of artist Anna Mary Robertson Moses aka Grandma Moses.

She was born this day in 1860 and is remembered for the beautiful primitive works she produced and that inspiration she provides to people embarking on a late start in life.

National Read a Book Day 2022
My mother is quite the voracious reader. She has several favorite authors and her tastes are more on the entertainment side of the literacy equation.

I used to be a high volume reader myself. However, my reading involved the technical aspects of work and as such were pretty dry fare to pursue as entertainment.

That amount of reading I have done in the past has likely limited the amount of reading I do presently.

After all, when you beat a guy over the head with book after book in pursuit of subject matter expertise it is bound to lose it's allure.

In my younger days I would read a lot. I even joined the Book of the Month Club and amassed quite a library.

I later revisited the club wanting to join yet again and the quality of offerings and bindings simply was no longer there.

I continue to maintain a fair amount of reading in my old age, however. Just not that massive workload to which I attended during my heyday.

The Golden Bough 12 volume set by Sir James George Frazer

Today is National Read a Book Day. It goes down yearly each September 6th.

National Read a Book Day is your personal invitation to obtain a book or two and spend the day reading.

Sorry, but I don't think so.

Reading improves the functionality of the brain and thought patterns and is a stress reduction technique.

Readers who are also older adults will find keeping themselves mentally stimulated with literature will be more participtory as well as self and situationally aware.

Yeah, I think it's wonderful to read. I've just had about a gazillion too many books shoved at me by this stage of the game.

Happy Read a Book Day.

Labor Day 2022
So Summer is winding down and another Labor Day is upon us.

This federal holiday is celebrated on the first Monday in September in honor of the working men and women and their works and contributions to the development and achievements of The Republic.

It includes the preceeding weekend in most jurisdictions and is referred to as Labor Day Weekend.

I used to look forward to Labor Day Weekend with a keen sense of anticipation.

I don't know if I still have a right to participate in Labor Day seeing how I am retired.

It rather leaves me feeling I have no place to go.

Happy Labor Day

Jury Rights Day 2022
In our legal system provisions are made for trials by jury and trials by judge. The circumstances make the choices available and typically the defendant can make the call under the advisement of counsel.

Today is Jury Rights Day observed each September 5 in commemoration of the famous case of William Penn in 1670 which set that precedence for the right that jurors have still today which is to conscientiously acquit someone by jury nullification.

Jury nullification occurs when the jury in a criminal trial gives a not guilty verdict despite a defendant having broken the law in the eyes of the court.

Jury nullification cannot be held against a juror. If they disagree with the law or aspects of what they have heard to the point that no consequences are placed upon the defendant that is simply the breaks.

There can be no recourse by the legal system in these instances.

Manhattan Family Court Judge Judith Sheindlin
When a judge tries a case only the judge decides the verdict. Jury nullification is therefore impossible.

Jury trials tend to be more compassionate because they are comprised of ordinary people untrained in the exclusion of emotional arguments.

Jurors are typically less concerned with the technical aspects of the trial and evidence making them "easier" than a judge who is trained in these areas extensively.

Personally, not having yet been a defendant I don't know whether I would prefer a jury or judge try my case.

Intellectually I think jury trials are more inclined toward fairness because it is a group hearing the case. Reality causes me to recognize this may not be the case, however.

I suppose it would all come down to the nature of the proceedings as to what I would choose.

Likely I'd prefer to discard the proceedings and let Judge Judy decide the outcome.

National Wildlife Day 2022
eagle takes flight

I wasn't always the pro nature kind of fellow I am these days.

Indeed, I have had my cruel and crass iterations when I thought in that foolishness which was my youth that the other living creatures mattered less than I did.

I am happy to say that I eventually evolved out of this selfishness.

Now I am quick to step aside and give way to another animal that happens to be in my presence.

National Wildlife Day is observed annually each September 4.

The day is about raising awareness regarding endangered species and their habitats, which need to be protected and rescued.

On this day one might consider preservation and conservation efforts that work to improve the natural world.

After all, people don't own the world. We cohabitate upon it with all the other living things.

National Skyscraper Day 2022
432 Park Avenue

The last skyscraper I went into was in Houston Texas while there on business a long time ago. The building was in the Post Oak section of town and was adjacent to the Bechtel building where I was working and appeared tall and thin. I felt that it swayed in the breeze for the brief time I was there ...

Which certainly wasn't a long interval.

Today is National Skyscraper Day. It is an annual observance held each September 3rd and recognizes these spectacularly tall habitations utilized for living and working as the marvels of human engineering they are.

The day is the anniversary of the birth of Louis H Sullivan who is said to be the "father" of modern skyscrapers. The name skyscraper originates in the 1880s in the United States as a moniker for high rise buildings.

I am not one to study the worlds construction — but I must say that skyscrapers leave me awestruck at the notion of long term utilization of them.

I'd like to consider what sort of height limitations may exist but I just cannot really go there for fear of bad karma.

I recall the 2008 contemporary horror flick Cloverfield set in New York City and the main hero Rob looking out the window of his girl Beth's apartment which was Unit 3910 in the second tower of the Time Warner Center at 10 Columbia Circle in Manahttan overlooking Central Park.

cloverfield central park from Beths window

The digs were positively spectacular and the building appeared to be as high as the the view one might observe from an airplane. The building ended up falling and was leaning on the adjacent tower from which the young lady was rescued from beneath a beam prior to their perilous departure as a plot item.

The astounding thing was in retrospect, it wasn't even the tallest building in the immediate vicinity.

Suffice it to say that though I worked on the 10th floor of a local office building for some thirteen years it was not something I would have chosen for myself. I prefer to keep my feet on the ground if you don't mind. Happy National Skyscraper Day anyway. If you're one of the many who enjoy a sky high lifestyle either working, residing, or both more power to you !

Doodle Day 2002
mona lisa doodle

I've been a doodler all my life.

I recall in elementary and high school my classroom papers would likely be festooned with various scribbles which were the result of something going on of the imaginary and multi tasking variety ...

Even back then.

I never got in trouble. Nobody ever inquired regarding them. I just figured they were of insufficient merit.

Today is Doodle Day. Annually persons who feel they are famous submit various doodles to mark the day. These are later auctioned off on ebay to support those suffering from epilepsy.

I don't think I'll be submitting anything to the auction competition.

While I understand the need for monetary support of those who deal with epilepsy.

The crux of the observance of Doodle Day for me personally is the creation of that which formerly did not exist.

That artistic hair running through me tickles me into action every now and then. Even if my efforts aren't all that.

I feel the spirit of the day is what is important. So I did a mona lisa doodle in an informal technique called jester.

My late friend Dewitt Casey taught me about it a long time ago.

Boy, I still miss him too.

World Letter Writing Day 2022
letter writing ... a failure of public education
I used to be a man of letters. When I was in the service I wrote letters regularly to family and friends. I would also engage others for business at the drop of a hat. It was all about reaching out and staying in touch.

Now I'm more a man of email. However, these pursuits are not nearly as robust as the letter writing of my past.

Nowadays the public schools don't even bother to teach cursive writing. I have a young cousin who received a note from his grandma and he could not even read it, though near the end of his secondary eduction. It was written in beautiful long hand but all he could read is printing.

Lame woke educators of America I blame you. You have been entirely too preoccupied with getting drag queens to influence grade school children, confusing the normal sexual development and response of children, and indoctrinating the students into perverse and unnatural sexuality, preoccupation with meaningless preferred pronouns, and other sick lifestyle decisions into which you should not have EVER been permitted to inject your stupid woke asses.

Today we have World Letter Writing Day. It is about paying respect to the hand written letter which once was what communication was all about. If I could write the blog in long hand I would. It would complicate the electronic distribution mechanism I utilize, however.

World Letter Writing Day would have you reconnect with people that you may not have spoken recently using a modality all too many modern students no longer understand.

Thank public education for this failure of duty to the people. You can bet your fugly primary colored red, green, and blue haired woke asses I resent your presence on the Earth.

Quarter Century without Diana
Diana, Princess of Wales

Diana, Princess of Wales
Diana Frances Spencer
July 1, 1961 – August 31, 1997

This day 25 years ago Diana, Princess of Wales was killed in an automobile accident in Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris. Diana was 36 years old when she died at the hands of Dodi Fayed's impaired drug addicted alcoholic chauffeur, Henri Paul.

Now it is not my place to criticize her relationship but I really think Prince Charles could have been a better steward of her heartstrings than he was ... and I feel that her fling with Mr Fayed to be fiscally motivated.

The heir apparent of the Harrods retail empire likely was rolling in dough himself.

Be all of this as it may the reaction of the royal family to her death was shall we say ... somewhat less than touching.

After British subjects rose up in vehement opposition to their "so what" attitude toward their collective grief at the loss of the princess the situation improved somewhat.

I recall where I was and what I was doing on that day when the news was announced to me.

I also recall the diminished esteem I had for Prince Charles afterward which went hand and hand with my disdain for Camilla Parker-Bowles.

This harsh attitude has somewhat tempered over time.

After all was said and done Prince Charles exhibited very poor taste to say the very least. A man wants what a man wants.

I hope he remains happy with his role as Camilla's walking talking tampoon.

Rest in peace Princess Diana.

National Slinky Day 2022
    metal slinky

When I was a child I had many slinkys over the years. The metal spring toy was something I would receive or purchase then break and pine over til I obtained another. There were all kinds of fantasy interludes involving these toys that would catch my fancy and hold me there.

Even in my adult life I have been known to purchase multipacks of giant slinkys and keep a few then pass a few more out to others around me.

They are very popular with adults other than myself as well.

Today is National Slinky Day and I'll likely go out and buy yet another soon. I am a fan of the metal slinky. There is also an 'extra long' version which I have been known to purchase and engage but typically tear it up much sooner than the original slinky as it is sometimes unwieldly.

I'm not real big on the plastic slinkys — which I deem to be cheap imitations ... but perhaps I am too severe. After all, a slinky is a slinky.

The bottom line is the slinky has been a part of my life as long as I can remember. It will likely hold that high level in my esteem for the rest of my life as well. You know how we children love our toys.

Happy National Slinky Day to you !

Individual Rights Day 2022
I am a strong proponent of individual rights. I have great respect for both the Constitution of the United States and it's Bill of Rights.

Contrast this with the democrat party of the United States presently entrenched in the deep state government who seek to usurp everything the United States stands for in the name of power and money.

They seek to lure illegal aliens as voters for their candidates by offering all manner of entitlements even though the fiscal resources of the country cannot support these ill given gains.

This is a facet of why the democrats are on their way out. I don't think they realize that totally bad showing they have made for themselves — causing the loss of respect and prestige by the bulk of the registered voters of The Republic.

The leftist libtards have shown their true colors and the liars such as Pelosi, Shumer, Schiff, Nadler, Biden, and the gd stupid Mrs Harris are well on their way to their just desserts.
John Locke

This day is Individual Rights Day.

It is a celebration of the birthday and philosophy of John Locke, an English physician and philosopher and advocate for liberty and rights.

This day is about his recognition of the fact that all human beings have sovereign identities stating that the government’s responsibility is to both recognize these rights and safeguard them.

The stupid democrats have lost sight of what is both important and what we as a nation are about.

I have always thought the actions of men the best interpreters of their thoughts.

John Locke

They think they can walk all over anyone and everyone and squander the resources of our nation with no consequences.

John Locke being the intellectual he was would not have approved of the handling of public affairs by that pseudointellectual mess called the democratic party of the United States of America — even though he himself was a staunch liberal.

Crackers Over the Keyboard Day 2022
    crackers

Yeah, this is another one of those days at which I will likely poke fun.

Call me wreckless, but the words Crackers Over the Keyboard bring to mind some caucasian engaged in either writing or coding at a computer or typewriter.

I don't eat crackers at my keyboard by and large. I save the crackers for bed.

Anyway, all seriousness aside, to day is Crackers Over The Keyboard Day. It is celebrated in the United States each August 28.

The crux of the day seems to be the taste of crackers and that humble yet versatile nature of them as foodstuffs.

Proponents of the day go on to tout how eating crackers plain or with dips are equally delicious snack foods.

I like peanut butter on my crackers.

I hope you have a happy day and can take it somewhat more seriously than do I.

National Just Because Day 2022
because balloons

Some of us are easily intimidated. Situational hesitancy rears it's ugly head in many of us frequently. That unsure feeling is primarily a function of image and how you want to present yourself.

We with the ability to shed a hesitant attitude are frequently considered foolhardy by those masses who cannot and are therefore imposed upon by we who can ... and do.

Needing a reason to act in our premeditated lives are the single biggest impediment to creativity on the planet.

Many say "just because" in the context of a specified situation not necessarily indicating a particular conclusion.

Funsy Wunsy ... August 27 provides an interesting vehicle for capricious activity called "Just Because Day".

The day is aka "National Just Because Day" and is a mechanism by which you may discard the why in your actions and go for it without needing to explain.

You get to do whatever you like "just because" so it's a day to do what you choose.

Happy Just Because Day.

Now get out there and do as you will ... just because.
