My mother is quite the voracious reader. She has several favorite authors and her tastes are more on the entertainment side of the literacy equation.
I used to be a high volume reader myself. However, my reading involved the technical aspects of work and as such were pretty dry fare to pursue as entertainment.
That amount of reading I have done in the past has likely limited the amount of reading I do presently.
After all, when you beat a guy over the head with book after book in pursuit of subject matter expertise it is bound to lose it's allure.
In my younger days I would read a lot. I even joined the Book of the Month Club and amassed quite a library.
I later revisited the club wanting to join yet again and the quality of offerings and bindings simply was no longer there.
I continue to maintain a fair amount of reading in my old age, however. Just not that massive workload to which I attended during my heyday.
Today is National Read a Book Day. It goes down yearly each September 6th.
National Read a Book Day is your personal invitation to obtain a book or two and spend the day reading.
Sorry, but I don't think so.
Reading improves the functionality of the brain and thought patterns and is a stress reduction technique.
Readers who are also older adults will find keeping themselves mentally stimulated with literature will be more participtory as well as self and situationally aware.
Yeah, I think it's wonderful to read. I've just had about a gazillion too many books shoved at me by this stage of the game.
