Pardon Day 2022

To pardon is the act of forgiving or being forgiven for some error or offense, perceived or actual.

In governmental affairs a pardon allows a person to be relieved of some or all of the legal consequences resulting from a criminal conviction.

There have been pardons with which I agree.

There have been other pardons with which I do not agree.

At any rate, I feel the pardon is a necessary construct given our present state of prejudice in judges, juries, and those individuals who would convict a citizen in the court of public opinion because so often we witness flaws and mistakes of fairness with those who don't bother to get the facts ...

Particularly among those who don't even understand the science of genetics or propriety and comportment in polite company.

September 8 brings us Pardon Day. Pardons provide a release mechanism for the mistakes of integrity we find in our legal system.

Political punishments in particular by heavy handed politicians finding themself able to wield power are the primary impetus for the pardon. Over time grudges may form and allegiances may become broken.

It is important that the powerful cannot punish others with a lack of objectivity and impunity into perpetuity.
The negative nuances of punishment need this mechanism for evaluation and relief when it is utterly warranted.

I am one of those who is likely to bear a grudge.

I have several for sitting and ex chief executives which will likely never be resoloved to my satisfaction.

While contentious spirits clash Pardon Day provides recognition of that release valve society may need and is a prime mover of the mercy and correction of overstepping heavy handed misuse of power becoming more frequent in these, our latter days.

Pardon day stimulates an environment of forgiveness which might not ever exist otherwise.

Pardon me, but just be glad I can't chop your head off.
