My daddy loved the taste of Whiskey. I saw him go through several phases of liquor preference and his favorite drink by far was the highball.
All that came to an end when the incompetent medical establishment in South Carolina tried to erroneously diagnose him with tuberculosis and placed him on totally unnecessary medicine which caused intractable joint pain and made his whisky taste bad to him.
Luckily he didn't last long enough to it to become a real problem but nobody knows what a bunch of buffoons they all were and I was not allowed to confront their stupid asses.
So today is World Whiskey Day. It reminds me of my late father and the piss poor medical care he was given at Richland Hospital.
Boo. Hiss. Die.
Anyway Whiskey in the United State began in the 1600 with Scottish immigrants of which my own maternal family line is derived.
So if you imbibe go for it. I remain a teetotaler by choice.

Faggots unite. Today is your International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia — a day for all perverts to unite against the straight mentality and pursue that mental illness of yours which causes deviant sexuality.
LGBTQ issues are personal problems of those in our midst who believe they should have acceptance by all of the normal people. There is no room in my existence for idiots who believe they are not the sex they were born or others attracted to people with genitalia like their own.
My live and let live attitude gets tried more and more these days. These idividuals who would flaunt their abnormality and protest publicly that they should be recognized as who and what they are lack the decorum and comportment to assume respect. Well, my deference is earned and your public presence is a facet of that. So keep your little LGBTQ self away from me and we'll be fine. I don't OWE you anything, recognition, tolerance, or otherwise.
My only personal issue with the day itself is that recuring misnomer "phobia" which implies "fear". A person who fears you will not chop your pervert head off with a sword to remove you from their presence. A person who fears you will not attempt a head shot at 300 feet to remove your influence from their world. A person who fears you will not get in your face and let you know it's coming. No I don't fear you so "phobia" is an inappropriate term applied to me personally. As if that were the ONLY inappropriate element of your perverted existence.
Push your stupid misguided luck with some of us who are not woke LGBTQ idiots. Your biological sex is all you can be. All else is cosmetics. See what your attraction to those with your own sex organs gets you in the presence of the "straight" white man. I decline to be your lackey.

Yeah ... once apon a time I got all liquored up as a function of daily life. I would drink a number of alcoholic concoctions in the name of altered consciousness pretty much daily. One of those things I would imbibe were apertifs as a predecessor to some grand meal on the schedule.
Fine dining and alcohol were essential parts of that aspect of my life. I was making the dough. I had the ecclectic taste for life and everything it had to offer.
Beluga caviar, sushi bars, haiku sake, Tiara over the Moon sake, any upscale steak house I found myself near. Suppers at Maxims, dinners at La Petit Chateau on Devine Street in the beginning. Lunches at Cantina 76 in the end. Oh my it was quite a ride.
Today is National Aperitif Day.
It is observed each year on the third Thursday in May. That would make it May 16th this year.
The day marks the value of apertifs — those drinks consumed prior meals as part of the good life.
Originally of French extraction, they are now an international indulgence and serve as ingredients in many cocktail recipes all over.
So I stopped drinking alcohol in the early 1990s in an effort to cease and desist all recreational drug use when 'drug testing' became the popular thing among stupid people like HR bitches and the like everywhere. I am surprised just how many stupid people are in the workplace. Particularly in HR departments large and small. It's astounding.
So get on out there and have tha pre meal apertif if it follows your fancy. I'll remain the teetotaler I have been for a long time now. When you make a lifestyle choice for yourself they typically remain with you regardless of how you may have once enjoyed partaking of that which you now shun.

- Peace Officers Memorial Day 2024

I come from a law abiding family who are "pro police".
My mother always referred to the officers of the law as "my friend".
I would never choose to defund or otherwise impede the police in upholding the law.
The democrats in general have been such buffoons over their inability to support those who uphold the law.
However one look at the lawfare of New York directed at Donald Trump and the contempt they hold for the law is obvious.
Today is Peace Officers Memorial Day.
It is observed each May 15 in tribute to the brave local, state, and federal officers of the law who have been killed or been disabled in the line of duty.
It is a function of Police Week and is marked with observances in various states.
It began in 1963 with a bill signed by President John F Kennedy before the democrats murdered him.
Support your peace officers and the law.
It is the American law and order way.

- The Stars and Stripes Forever Day 2024

Not really big on marches. I studied them in music during my primary school years. While I have always been very patriotic, the parades with marching and such never thrilled me to any noteworthy amount.
It's likely due to the fact that I never took up playing some woodwind or brass instrument in the school band. Anyway for all my inherent musicality otherwise I never did much of anything in playing an instrument beyond faking it.
I opted instead for the songs and quiet times of reflecting on The Republic and all we had to offer prior to the criminal democrats assuming power and trying to rob us of our inalienable rights as they do daily.
Today is The Stars and Stripes Forever Day. It is held each May 14th in honor of a song written by the famous conductor and composer, John Philip Sousa. The song is a a patriotic American march written in 1896.
It became the National March of the United States in 1987. I will always take a moment to listen to a Souza piece for it's sheer patriotism and lively cadence.

- Tulip Day 2024

Of all the flowers I have loved the tulip is one of my favorites. I suppose it all stems from that early memory of my cousin Jackie who did a presentation on Tulip Time in Holland wearing a flowing blue gown way back in my childhood — and I saw the many tulips and became enthralled taking to them immediately.
Today is Tulip Day. It is observed every year on May 13.
The day exists to celebrate tulips, those brightly-colored spring bloomers.
Tulips originated in Central Asia, where they grew wild. Cultivation of the flower began in Turkey around 1000 AD and they were favorites of those denizens of the Ottoman Empire and the Sultan in particular.
Around the 16th century they were planted in the Netherlands for medicinal purposes. They remain associated with the Dutch since that time.
I love the tulip for it's form and color. I don't partake of any opiates but they are yet another offshoot of this versatile plant.

Yeah, my first and only experience with archery was totally bad. Therefore I never pursued the skill.
It happens that when we were young my brother decided to fire off an arrow into the air without even looking where he was shooting. The projectile came down and struck my cousin Regina in the head.
Now she had a pretty severe scalp laceration which was sewn up at the Emergency Room — but there could have been a penetration wound which she luckily avoided.
She was a far better sport about it all than I would have ever been.
Today is Archery Day. It is observed each second Saturday in May making it May 11th this year.
Archery has been around since the early part of man's evolution. Whereas it was once an essential military skill it is now primarily a hunting and sport affair unless you're like me and were turned off to it all as a child.
Having no personal need for ancient warfare I'll stick to 300 foot headshots with my trusty .357 magnum thank you very much.
Happy Archery Day anyway.

National Lipid Day concerns each May 10 internationally in the name of those suffering from dyslipidemia. Lipid is another term for fat. The body stores fat as energy reserves. Excess fat in the body may lead to obesity and other health problems.
The day began under the auspices of Kunjan Singh and Sanjay Suri on behalf of Zydus Cadila aka Zydus Lifesciences Limited to spread awareness about the disease. May 10 was chosen as the day on which National Lipid Day is to be observed annually.
Dyslipidemia is a metabolic disorder. It is characterized by abnormally high or low amounts of any or all lipids. Those elements of the body which constitute lipids in the blood include:
fats
triglycerides
cholesterol
phospholipids
lipoproteins
Dyslipidemia is a risk factor for the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases which include:
coronary artery disease
cerebrovascular disease
peripheral artery disease
Most dyslipidemias are hyperlipidemias, which means the presence of too much rather than too little however the affectation does go both ways on the scale of abnormality.
I too was suffering from too high triglyceride and cholesterol levels. I am now proud to say that after years of sky high readings mine are now normal. I take two little pills toward this end and after a protracted interval of treatment they have made all the difference.

The decade from 1987 through 1997 brought us the sitcom Married With Children. It was a fictional account of the antics of a hilarious family. One of the characters was Kelly Bundy, portrayed by Christina Applegate.
The character was a beautiful yet shallow girl child and the subtle nuances presented by Ms Applegate were sometimes stunning given the schtick and always understated.
I enjoyed the series immensely at a time when I had little about which to smile let alone laugh.
Christina Applegate is an American Actress who was born November 25, 1971. She did a number of films in her adult life winning a prime time Emmy as well as nominations for Golden Globe awards and a Tony award.
I also particularly enjoyed her performance in Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead which came out around 1991.
So today is National Christina Day. It is observed each May 9 annually.
While I have seen more of the works of others, I have always had a special place in my heart for Christina Applegate because of the character Kelly Bundy. When you say the name Christina to me only two people come to my mind. Christina Applegate is one of them.

I remember a youth of bare feet. Indeed, I rarely wore shoes when I was a child.
I don't recall the distinct lack of mobility caused by bare feet that I experience nowadays. Even on finished concrete I am hard pressed to walk quickly and find myself compelled to put on shoes and socks.
Today is No Socks Day. It is observed annually each May 8th internationally.
Socks began their heyday some time around 1589 when the knitting machine was invented by one William Lee with an output six times greater than had been known prior to that time.
The short sighted Queen Elizabeth I declined a patent for the invention but King Henry IV of France was not quite so stupid and realized the potential for the advances in textiles and gave his financial support.
While socks are pretty much standard wardrobe these days we reserve this day to get back to the earth in bare feet. I only wish my feet weren't so tender ...

- Network Node Issues

The UPS for my uplink node to mom's network failed this morning.
It started crashing and burning about 8 am and continued for a couple of hours when it went into a rapidly alternating charge/discharge cycle to the point that I shut everything on the node down and contemplated a new UPS.
In my area, the power is not as reliable as it was back when it was called "SCE&G". I'm afraid that Dominion Power simply could give a rip about the foreigners they have invaded at the behest of the incompetent Public Services Commission which could really not care LESS about good service opting what must have been the biggest payment under the table they could swing.
Appearances sure make me wonder anymore.
This is mere speculation, of course but the reality is that this is one crappy power utility the state has brought in to replace the crooks they created themselves.
So, be all of this as it may I fiddled a smidge with the new equipment then tied it into the node and now everything is hunky dory ...
At least as much as it can be in the presence of sheer incompetence of the power utility and the public utilities commisson.
I used to love living here and now I totally hate South Carolina for their insipid inbred people with whom I am forced to contend in my activities of daily living.
Boo Dominion Power.
Boo Public Utilities Commission.
Boo State of South Carolina, land of the insipid inbred southerner.
... and to think I was born here.

- National Foster Care Day 2024

My parents were active in the foster care arena during the early part of my young adulthood. They kept a number of children who were not their own, providing food, clothing, shelter, and emotional support.
Some of the children were easy charges. Others not so much. It speaks well of their concern for the youth of the world that they would assume these duties as often and as long as they did.
Today is National Foster Care Day.
It happens on each first Tuesday of May making it May 7 this year.
It is a part of the larger Foster Care Month which is held in recognition of those people who take the children of the world into their homes and provide for them as though they were their own.
Foster Care Month is held under the auspices of the Children’s Bureau, National Foster Youth Institute, Child Welfare Information Gateway, Foster Club, and the Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth among other child welfare organizations.
While some children are sadly left unserved at all others remain in the foster care system too long.
The Foster Care recognition days are meant to bring to the fore those issues associated with foster care and their charges who all to often cannot choose or fend for themselves.

- King Henry VIII Ordered A Bible for Every Church

The Great Bible was a version of the Bible authorized by King Henry VIII to be read aloud in church services of the Church of England.
It was commissioned by Thomas Cromwell and prepared by Myles Coverdale and ultimately became compulsory for all English churches to own a copy of this Cromwell injunction scripture.
Thusly on May 6 1541 King Henry VIII ordered a bible in English be placed in every church in England.
My personal Bible is the King James Authorized version of 1611 and I read the Goodspeed Apocrypha the scripture of which was originally included within it's pages.
I have never been a fan of King Henry VIII because I believe him to be a murderer and without redeeming virtue or merit of character.
I attibute his character flaws to his jousting accident which left him wounded for life and from which he never recovered.
