I had friends who were a couple my age and drank martinis every day. They would always order them "with twists". I thought it amusing. Then one day they were unable to have their several martinis one day and I got a gander at their deprived personalities. The normally amicable pair were frowning and tense with a distinct pouting edge I had never seen before.
Suffice it to say that when you become accustomed to something your way over time you may find yourself having to cope when should it become unavailable for whatever reason.
I used to be known to drink a martini or two ... or three. I have never missed it when it wasn't there and could laugh in the face of it's unavailability.
Today is National Martini Day.
Formerly known as 'The Martinez' which was a gold rush town for which it was named and where it was invented, the martini remains a staple of barflies everywhere. Early on they were constructs of wine, gin, and an olive. These days many flavorings find themselves in the various recipes.
So June 19 is your day to sit and sip one if you're so inclined. Try not to let it control you.
