Summer Solstice 2024

It's the first day of Summer. The temperatures are in the low 90s presently and they are acting like these are a deadly occurrence.

I recall temperatures of 110 some years and all I could do is whine.

Nowadays I maintain a lot of computer equipment which requires more cooling than in the past. More expense too !

The summer solstice aka estival solstice happens when one of Earth's poles has its maximum tilt toward the Sun.

It happens twice yearly. Once in each of our Northern and Southern hemispheres.

The event has been recognized as significant thougout our history from the beginnings of recorded time.

It marks the longest day and shortest night of the year.

At this time the sun is at it's highest in the sky. The opposite astronomical even is Winter solstice.
