National Organize Your Home Office Day 2023
A cluttered desk is a sign of genius
My home office is pretty spacious these days. Whereas it once occupied a small area in a portion of a back room now it pretty much envelops my entire living room ... and I keep a couch and overstuffed chair handy for visitors.

Today is National Organize Your Home Office Day. It is an annual event observed each second Tuesday of March.

The day is ostensibly to clean up the mess that has accumulated in our home offices and to establish a productive and healthy working environment at home.

Be all of that as it may, the degree of messiness ebbs periodically only to rebuild with avengence.

I for one adhere to the notion that a cluttered desk is a sign of genius.

My only trepidations surround the food stuffs in the mix. So regardless of your degree of mess I'm sure there is room for some modicum of improvement be it large or small.

My efforts in home office organization are ongoing and I frequently not only clean up the mess but rearrange the entirety of my workspace. All in the name of maintaining motivation !

Happy National Organize Your Home Office Day.

Smart and Sexy Day 2023
Candace Amber Owens Farmer
The confluence of smart and sexy are a rare combination in females these days.

Today we have Smart and Sexy Day.

It is held annually on March 13 in order to celebrate the skills, wit, and ingenuity of women in their various career fields.

I have found that all too many women feel "dismissed" in the workplace.

Also, those skills available sometimes have a ceiling far below that which is required for the work at hand.

Regardless, there are those who eclipse both requirements and expectations in the workaday world and this is the type of woman I find most attractive.

In celebration of the day I have sketched Candace Amber Owens Farmer.

She is an American conservative author, talk show host, political commentator, and producer.

I absolutely love her political points because she relates them with such skill and aplomb that I would have second thought opposing her views in any modern intellectual discussion. To witness her acumen in the midst of public oratory is the stuff of magic.

She is not the only smart and sexy person out there these days either.

Denise just doesn't provide me with sufficient photographs from which I may sketch.

Happy Smart and Sexy Day you women whom I desire !

World Glaucoma Day 2023
glaucoma

My mammy has glaucoma. I first noticed it when I was in my early to mid 40s and teaching college.

Since then I have been keen to have her followed by a competent opthamologist.

She attends regular appointments to keep a handle on the problem — which is a group of eye conditions resulting in increased pressure within the eyeball.

These may cause gradual loss of sight when left untreated.

She has been treated using eye drops since we first noticed her condition.

She likes to read too much to lose her sight so I make sure she gets to her appointments when they arise.

Today is World Glaucoma Day.

It is observed on March 12th each year internationally. The day is meant to raise awareness about that group of eye diseases known collectively as glaucoma. The day is part of a week of raising awareness about this disease and ensuring early detection.

Early detection of glaucoma improves the prognosis for sufferers of the disease and makes for a better chance of stopping or slowing the disease progress with appropriate treatment. Blindness caused by glaucoma is irreversible but treatment may mitigate some damage done to the eye.

National Johnny Appleseed Day 2023
    Johnny Appleseed

We have another National Johnny Appleseed Day.

Observed each March 11, the day honors the life of conservationist and nurseryman John Chapman AKA Johnny Appleseed.

He is the stuff of folklore and history and is a hero who was instrumental in introducing the apple trees to expansive parts of the Untid States.

Gaining aspects of mythological stature from those stores related to children over the years his actual existence has come into question periodically.

His existence was indeed real and he was contributory to the agriculture and natural landscape of the nation with his many apple orchards.

Bathing upon request
Rie Takahashi
I am what is known in the venacular as a "hygiene freak". I seek cleanliness as both a germaphobe and an individual keenly aware of presentation and comportment in mixed company. I would never attend a public event in the obvious state of diminished personal hygiene — which apparently has become commonplace in our twenty first century schizoid world.

Shame !

It seems that some concert venues have attendees who have been lacking in the personal hygiene department. A Japanese chanteuse performing her first live show on Feb 26 took to social media to stress the importance of personal hygiene when in public.

Rie Takahashi is a Japanese voice actress best known for her work in the "Fate/Grand Order" multimedia series and who has a career as a singer in Japan. In the true fastidious fashion of polite Japanese society the young lady has obviously become tired of the stench of body odor which had gained an overpowering reputation in public venues as it were ...

This move was an effort to promote social awareness in the presence of your fellow concert goers more than any thing else I believe; although the very thought of having to ADVISE adults to tend to personal matters such as bathing is rather disconcerting for me personally.

Our handle on how others perceive us is obviously somewhat lacking in the younger generation as evidenced by the very notion that a cautionary advisement is even necessary.

My goodness gracious, stinky. Wash your nasty ass.

National American Paddlefish Day 2023

I've never seen an American paddlefish in person. This is likely a function of a lack of sportmanship in my life, i.e., I am not one to WANT to go fishing ... EVER.

My interest in this fish has more to do with the fact that it is a prehistoric freshwater species and as such is due our protection from people who would seek to have their way with them to the point of extinction.

The Chinese paddlefish was declared extinct in 2019, a victim being heavily overfished in all stages of growth by a relentless culture of selfish people who cared only for themselves in the moment. Immediate gratification overrode nonexistent efforts at conservation.

American paddlefish

This leaves only the American paddlefish upon the Earth.

National American Paddlefish Day was founded under the auspices of the Shreveport Aquarium in an effort to bring the plight of the paddlefish to light and attempt to protect their populations and habitats.

Let us hope that this animal doesn't go the way of so many other species which went extinct at the hands of people.

National No Smoking Day 2023
    National No Smoking Day 2023
I think it's a shame that this STILL needs to be said.

Smoking is hazardous to people and other living things. Other tobacco use such as chewing tobacco, snuff, and so forth are equally hazardous, just more localized to the mouth, throat, and salivary glands. But I digress ...

The damage smoking does to both the pulmonary and cardiovascular systems in people is astounding.

The heartbreak of losing a close loved one prematurely cannot be measured.

I continue to enter public venues where my breathing is stifled by the second hand smoke of others who feel it is their right to damage MY health.

Today is National No Smoking Day. It goes down each second Wednesday of March. This year it will be March 8, 2023.

The day is supposed to be a time of outreach in an effort to get those for whom you care to stop smoking. The primary attractant to those who smoke is nicotine addiction.

Smokers who intend to continue have reached a point where their numbers are no longer diminishing.

Smoking and second hand smoke remain critical hazards for the heath of all people.

If you don't smoke don't start. If you smoke, make all efforts to try and quit.

If not for yourself, do it for those for whom you care.

Alexander Graham Bell Day 2023
Alexander Graham Bell
The telephone is one of those Earth changing inventions which permits distance communications in real time.

Today is Alexander Graham Bell Day. It marks the day that Mr Bell was granted a patent for "transmitting vocal or other sounds telegraphically".

Three days later he made the historical statement

"Mr. Watson, come here ... I want to see you"

Alexander Graham Bell requesting the presence of Mr Thomas Watson
Which historians record being said when he summoned his assistant Mr Thomas Watson from the next room.

This was the very first telephone call.

The holiday is recognized by an official act of the legislature in Nova Scotia, Canada as that day he was granted the patent.

The rest of the story is evolving with the advent of the wireless and "smart" phones which are the direct result of improvements and innovation over the years.

National Dress Day 2023
    purple dress

In biblical times men wore skirts. Scripture speaks of 'girding' in preparation for battle and 'spreading' as an act of marriage.

That was then. This is now.

I've never worn a dress. I don't think it's appropriate for a man to wear a dress nowadays.

Try telling that to the freaks populating the Biden administration like Sam Brinton and Richard Levine.

There is no respect for the United States government when it becomes a freak show.

Today is National Dress Day. It happens on March 6 in celebration of the dress.

A lot of people design and manufacture dresses.

Others like the insane Sam Brinton simply want to steal luggage containing them then add them to his own perverse wardrobe.

Still others like the fat and ugly Richard Levine wants everyone to think he's some fugly female when he is just some heinous butt-ugly biological male ...

Utter madness continues to run rampant on the left unabated.

Men can not be women and should stay out of dresses.

Boo !

International Open Data Day 2023
Open Data Day
Open Data Day is an annual observance of international open data. It is a day for groups and communities gather to reach out to new people and build new solutions using open data.

I do a lot of "open source" software and it is a free and accessible distribution methodology.

I have been known to use open source code in my projects.
However, my modifications are not included in the open source data I allow others to see.

There is a problem with sharing data in an open manner as far as I am concerned. A lot of the stuff I have belongs to customers and they would not appreciate it much were I to make their assets obtainable in an open data manner.

Call me selfish, but I remain one who believes you shouldn't tell everything you know.

So "open data" or "open source programs" appears to be the inverse of proprietary which is typically guarded beyond the need, i.e., alot of the proprietary stuff out there, particularly the dotnet microsoft mess — which is IMHO total junk.

When you can write a code segment in 30 lines I feel the need for 500 lines is unnecessary.

So happy International Open Data Day. Share what you will and I hope you are staying away from the stupid microsoft dotnet crap.

National Pound Cake Day 2023
Sara Lee All Butter Pound Cake
My mammy loves pound cake. I didn't realize this until just the other day when I brought her a large cake from the Chef's Store. She really did eat it up with her coffee. I was gratified to see that there are food items she will readily enjoy.

I think a couple of these every so often are in order simply because she enjoys them.

As for me, I like pound cake okay. I have always been a German chocolate or Boston creme pie kind of guy, however.

Today is National Pound Cake Day. It happens each year on March 4.

It celebrates our long history of pound cakes and encourages people to actually bake them.

Now I am not one to bake anything. I once fancied myself a cook of sorts but I'm afraid I like easy breakfast stuff most of all. The pound cake is a reference to a cake baked with a pound each of the four primary ingredients:

  butter
  eggs
  flour
  sugar

Whether you bake them, just eat them, or mostly just share them Pound Cake is a gastronomic delight for reasons which may not reach out and grab you.

Happy National Pound Cake Day to you !

Naval Reserve Birthday 2023
Today is the US Naval Reserve Birthday. It is celebrated annually each March 3rd to commemorate the establishment of the United States Navy Reserve.

The Navy Reserve was established in 1915, making it more than a century younger than the US Navy.

This particular anniversary is not a federal holiday but it typically observed at various Navy Reserve units, Reserve Headquarters, and at the Navy Memorial in Washington DC.

USS MacDonough DDG-39
I was a reservist. Reservists are members of the Navy Reserve. My designation was "3 x 6" whereby I did 3 years active duty, 1 year active reserve, and 1 year inactive reserve.

I wasn't what I would call a "good" sailor. Gung ho didn't arrive for me til much later in life. I was however squared away on active duty. I'm afraid I didn't take reserve drill quite so serioiusly.

I have attempted to do penance for my poor military attitude by contributing to the welfare of those disabled veterans at the local VA Hospital.

I get them a lot of activity related and playing card Christmas stuff to make their lonely holidays more special in the hopes that they have good luck and smooth sailing.

I am a sinner. I haven't always done as well as I might have. I have tried to do better in my later life. The patients and the nurses at the VA appreciate me.

Google is Evil
Google is Evil

That evil which is big tech in general is usually eclipsed by oracle, facebook, and google.

oracle buys up good technology like java and makes it bad for the consumer.
facebook is in league with the government to suppress facts and information contrary to that narrative they wish to push.
google simply is a coniving, inferior, baiting, reporting piss poor excuse for a search engine which only shows you what it chooses to show. There is a vast difference between the "organic" search engine and google which is simply an advertising machine and redirector mechanism designed to direct traffic where they want and NOT where you might want to go.

Google will redirect or suppress you at their evil whim. They appear to intentionally get your IP geolocation wrong just to piss you off. They think YOU are their product.

Had Elon Musk not bought twitter it would be right there in the scumbag fray with the rest of them.

This merely scratches the surface of a problem created by those who ROUTINELY betray the public trust because of their evil wish to exert undue control.

In fact for a company which used to say "don't do evil" google is about as evil an entity as exists on the planet.

Companies like google, youtube, and alphabet which have no redeeming value whatsoever should be struck from the world like the plague it is.

This wart on the collective ass of humanity should be eliminated with extreme prejudice.

Die google die.

I suggest nuking google and their parents and subsidiaries from orbit. It's the only way to be sure to rid us of that arrogant thug of the information age called 'big tech'.

I have a droid but I don't use much of it nor do I save anything on it because I utterly detest google the crooks, the scum, the technoturds.

National Horse Protection Day 2023
    horsey
My younger days found me in the presence of many horses. I never owned one but it seems that everyone around me did.

My cousin Regina was quite the accomplished equestrian as I remember. These were the days in my life when I found rodeo events entertaining. I recall a fondness for some of those steeds which eclipsed that fondness I felt for their owners ...

Over the years I have had a soft spot for horses. I had a friend back in my young adulthood who was a horse fanatic as it were.

She maintained a collection of a hundred or so extremely realistic models of horses in various poses and I recall my first encounter with this collection as being one of those speechless moments when I found words to be simply inadequate.

Unfortunately she and I have gone our separate ways so I guess I'll never see them again.

Today is National Horse Protection Day. It is held each March 1 in an effort to end the suffering of horses everywhere.

Unfortunately I have also seen a lot of horses which were not treated well — beaten, starved, left out in the cold.

This day brings to light such cruelty against animals in the form of neglect and abuse.

National Horse Protection Day began in 2005 under the auspices of one Colleen Paige. She is an expert on pets, animal behavior and a lover of the equine species.

Though her efforts have aided the cause for abolishing cruelty toward horses there remains a long way to go.
