International Chess Day 2023

Chess wasn't ever my forte. I had ambitions as a child but they fell by the wayside in that life I pursued as a navy brat. So from that strong nine year old beginning I pretty much abandoned the game except for few afterwards and one in particular on a Med cruise at the behest of my best friend ... thusly my chess career waned.

Regardless of my dropping the ball on the game of chess the game remains popular and even a hallmark of geekdom. The strategy and tactics were what interested me and I had become quite the ruthless fellow playing the game as I recall.

Anyway I was always grateful to my folks for immersing me in the game at an early point in my life because from that moment on I was always comfortable when that far and few between game came up.

Today is International Chess Day. It was a UN idea and to HELL with the UN. They are the singularly worst thing to ever happen to the world.

Chess came about under mysterious circumstances and various countries all have their own spin on it's orgins.

It's the board game predecessor to other war and battle genres which proliferated after it.

The General Assembly has proclaimed July 20 as International Chess Day. This corresponds to the date the International Chess Federation (FIDE) came into being.

Millions of chess players around the world celebrate this day and this game. I'm open to a game occasionally as long as you're not some UN dullard trying to take over the world with your stupid globalist agenda.
