I like a good hot dog every now and then. Something about a plump frank with just the right complement of condiments on a soft bun simply appeals to me.
I'll never forget the summer of 1977 while I was in Chicago on liberty from A School and made the mistake of ordering a hot dog with mayo.

I ususally get four of them from the local What A Burger on Meeting Street. They have mustard, chili, and onions and I have been known to tear them out the frame.
July 19 brings us National Hot Dog Day, that day set aside for the consumption of hot dogs and their sides.
I believe the name originates with the germans who brought their food choices with them when they immigrated. Also the origins of National Hot Dog Day are unclear in the literature.
It is quite likely never enter into a hot dog eating contest like the stupendous Nathans fete held at Surf and Stillwell Avenues in Coney Island — that town singularly known for hot dogs and is IMHO the hot dog capital of the world. Coneys are a favorite of mine in particular.
