Learn Your Name in Morse Code Day 2023
Morse telegraph key
January 11 brings us National Learn Your Name in Morse Code Day. It is a day to visit the world of telecommunications consisting of encoded messages consisting of dits and dahs, i.e., dashes and dots.

The primary hardware used for this process is called a "Morse Key" and is used for communication either to or from the operator. The evolution of the methodology has brought a full range of character sets into use.

Nowadays, it is primarily the purview of ham radio operators is amateur and ham radio operators.

I never really delved into the realm of Morse Code being a product of the digital age.

This analog technology was outdated prior to my arrival on the technology scene.

I dare say Morse Code remains useful given situations where it is warranted and I would never belittle anyone who wanted to learn it.

When China hits us with that big EMP they're planning and kills every computer in the United States because of the weak leadership inspired by the criminal democrat thugs in our midst you will be glad to have something else upon which to fall back.

Something which cannot be taken out quite so easily.

Happy Learn Your Name in Morse Code Day.

Dave in Morse Code

National Save the Eagles Day 2024
Bald Eagle

Of all the birds I've ever witnessed in the wild the Bald Eagle is the most majestic. Something about the yellow beak and eyes contrasted with the white head and brown to black body is very appealing to me personally.

Today is National Save the Eagles Day. It happens on January 10 since January 10, 2015 under the auspices of the Bergen County Audubon Society in an effort raise awareness about eagles and conservation efforts to prevent extinction.

The Endangered Species Act among other governmental instruments attempts to protect these animals and have helped the Bald Eagle to increase it's numbers.

I hope you will take a moment and become inspired to act on their behalf whenever and where ever you can.

People are not the only ones who call our world home.

National Word Nerd Day 2024
     word nerd
My best ole ex friend the late Charlie Paschal once said that I was a "wordsmith". One who has an ability to phrase meaningful sentences in unique ways.

Today is National Word Nerd Day. It is said to be a January 9th observance to emphasize the importance of language in culture as they pertain to phraseology and communication.

Words have importance to civilization and historical representations of fact.

This is why the transsexuals, other woke idiots and BLM want to change history. They don't know what the real historical facts are and therefore seek to "educate" every one else with their false notions and misrepresentations.

Luckily enough of us who understand that the lessons of history must be repeated in the face of erroneous factual presentation exists to quash these attempts by the left to stupify the entirety of the masses at every turn.

I didn't make the trans, woke, and BLM stupid. They repeatedly go out of their way to express just how stupid they are however with their never ending falsehoods and selfish psychobabble presented as a replacement for rational thought where there is none.

Understanding words allows you to bone up on the facts so you are not led astray as ALL TOO MANY have been of late. I'm glad the genZ people seem to be straightening out for themselves.

Happy National Word Nerd Day.

National Clean Your Desk Day 2024
roll top desk
Maintaining a clean desk has escaped me over the years. It seems that it's not enough that clutter is the sign of a genius, but grime and fingerprints likewise are part of the mix. I have been cohorts with neatnicks who put me to shame. I have also been in the presence of those whom I put to shame.

Today is National Clean Off Your Desk Day. It is observed on the second Monday of January annually and was the idea of one Anne Moeller of Clio, Michigan. It is thought that the day may have beginnings in some wayard new years resolution gone astray.

Regardless, it's time to whip out the damp rags and furniture polish if necessary and put some elbow grease into that item which supports your work environment. Eliminate those dust bunnies if you can ...

A mess on your desk may be inefficient and inviting of chaos, but there are all too many of us who go there, including yours truly. I'm afraid that aesthetically pleasing desks do not really affect my motivation — nor productivity levels at all. Some of us are just slobs at heart I guess.

Just let it be known that I sometimes do get all medeval on messiness and whip things into immaculate shape on intermittent occasions.

National Bobblehead Day 2024
    Trumpinator Bobblehead
I collect a few bobbleheads here and there.

I have Beavis and Butt-Head, Dexter, and Amy Farrah Fowler among my collection.

I am also presently coveting the Trumpinator bobblehead — because he is my candidate for POTUS due to the election stolen by the criminal democrats and Biden Administration.

Today is National Bobblehead Day.

It is a January 7th observance designed to recognized those immortalized in the bobblehead genre.

I deeply enjoy the notion of bobbleheads and collecting those who represent significant individuals in my life. This includes characters and personalities that I find humorous, awe inspiring, or otherwise interesting.

Needless to say I will never own a crook Joe Biden nor liar Dick Durbin or Todd Rutherford bobblehead.

The racist whiners Cornell West and Al Sharpton can pretty much forget it as well.

I only hope I get to attend each of their funerals some day to ridicule them as they go down for the dirt nap.

Happy National Bobblehead Day.

National Cuddle Day 2024
cuddle
So once upon a time I would hold a paramour close in my arms to express either my love or affection. Yes, I was quite the cuddler back in the day.

Those days are long gone given the career path I chose and the travel it entailed. I was never one to pick up some bar fly with whom to become close so I pretty much tapered out of the coupling life relatively early.

So today we have National Cuddle Day. It is observed each January 6 and the typical cold weather provides impetus to cuddle up and get close.

The ambiance of amenities such as fire places and such add to such possibilities.

However, you do need a partner if you're going to cuddle and they are not always available.

These days I don't really seek companionship because the loner life took hold some years back. However, if you are equipped and ready I hope you'll take full advantage of National Cuddle Day.

National Bird Day 2024
    Sparrow
Another National Bird Day is upon us. I try to celebrate the day because I think birds are important. These descendants of the dinosaurs remain with us despite overwhelming odds against survival and they add to the world with their colorful plumage and song.

They are a large group of animals suffering various threats to include illegal pet trade, disease, loss of habitat, and the ignorance of all to many humans who take them for granted.

I have just one issue with birds in general and that has to do with my truck and their propensity for eliminating waste products upon it.

However, in my never ending attempt not to be petty I overlook these transgressions resulting in more business for the car wash over on Sunset Boulevard.

National Bird Day is observed each January 5 under the auspices of the Avian Welfare Coalition since 2002. It is meant to raise awareness of the difficulties of bird species and to raise public awareness of bird requirements for life.

Many birds are either endangered or protected and this is due to the encroachment of many upon them and they are keystone species which indicate the overall health of the environment.

I hope you can find the time to set out a little food in the form of fruits, nuts, suet, as well as millet and other grains for the birds in an effort to ensure their survival.

World Hypnotism Day 2024
pocket watch on chain
I don't know why but I cannot be hypnotized.

The proposed reasons for this situation do not resonate with me either. I have been on stages where the sweat was pouring off the performer who couldn't believe that I wasn't falling under his spell. Who knows ...

Today is World Hypnotism Day.

It is observed each January 4.

Those complexities which constitute hypnotism and the control said to be imparted upon the subject are certainly worth the consideration —

Suffice it to say one should not make claims which turn out to be unsubstantiated either.

I have no preconceived notions regarding the process nor do I fear the practioners or the 'Manchurian Candidate' portends of control by another.

It has just never been possible to date and the world is running out of time.

Suffice it to say that my senses are under control and I have a frank grasp on that reality I occupy.

If you ever want to try to hypnotize me I think it might be arranged.

Happy World Hypnotism Day.

Festival of Sleep Day 2024
    sleeping baby
I am quite easily engaged in sleep anymore. All I have to do is retire and I awaken sometime later after some lively REM engagement.

I think it all stems from my early start on the third shift when I began working after I dropped out of college. For years I engaged the eleven pm to seven am workaday world with Sargeant Hampton and the others of the Richland Emergency Room back in the early 1970s. Later I became engrained in the standard daytime work from my hitch in the Navy onward. Then I found myself teaching college for the next 20 years. Go figure.

Today is Festival of Sleep Day. It is a January 3 construct which aims in letting you catch up on that sleep surrendered to the seasonal events otherwise. It's origins appear in the industrial organization of industrialist Henry Ford in 1926 back when he tried to structure the day of workers as if he owned them.

Regardless, there is a lot to be said for a good nights sleep. Some of us engage in naps in addition to our nightly 8 hours.

I hope you're rested and raring to go each and every day.

Happy Festival of Sleep Day

Things I don't do on cell phones
no cellphone ecommerce
There are a number of things I do not pursue on my cell phone, even though they purport to be safe and reliable. The most notable of these is ecommerce.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not crazy about ecommerce at my workstation either. I personally prefer brick and mortar stores to the likes of mf amazon or some other web based loser.

I decline to do ecommerce or any manner of financial endeavor on my cell phone because I simply do not trust the security nor the mechanisms of recovery or those guarantees of adequate bandwidth and signal.

Take my stupid bank. These morons force two factor authentication on me (as though it's not running me off) and they send their codes over SMS (texting) modality even though the security here is grossly lacking.

I think that their IT department exists to service the old biddies on Whiskey Road because they sure don't exhibt anything valuable in the way of computer skills or recommendations.

But I digress. Just bear in mind that I have had fraud issues with ecommerce and this alone has caused me to shun it like the proverbial red headed stepchild to the point that I decline to go there BUT I don't hold it against you if you care to indulge.

In these days of evil dirtbags like Alphabet, Google, Facebook, Target and Walmart who are without both technical merit and trustworthiness I would be foolhardy to allow them to participate in more of my life that I consider safe to share.

Ecommerce is not one of those things I share with just anybody. I have a couple of new vendors who I have banned for their utter incompetence already in the new year. I set high standards but indeed make all attempts to meet those standards for myself. I wasn't always so integrity conscious in my business dealings.

In the presence of dullard democrat influences pervading the nation, America has gone downhill in the fight for integrity and I do not care to be subjected to this frank lack of worthiness which has rubbed off from the democrats to the idiots they attract in the marketplace.

National Bacon Day 2023
    air fryer bacon
My old friend the late Emmett Tolbert of Lugoff SC said that everything was better with bacon. He was of course commenting on a burger we had just ordered at the Sandhills Red Robin restaurant in the Northeast section of Columbia.

So while I wasn't always in agreement with Emmett on some things I was certainly fine with his notion that bacon adds flavor to whatever it may be included.

Today is National Bacon Day. Since 1997 it happens each December 30 and I'm a big enough fan to go out and buy a pound and fry it up with some eggs over easy and a spot of polenta (yellow grits) and simply have at it.

It's a good addition to whatever food you may have going on and I am particularly fond of adding it to a salad.

Have a tasty National Bacon Day and I hope you find yourself able to indulge !

National Cello Day 2023
Pablo Casals cello

The cello is an interesting musical instrument for those of us who like to hear classical string ensembles such as those belted out by Leonard Hoffstetler and Leslie Winkle on The Big Bang Theory.

In actually, today is International Cello Day which is observed each December 29 whereby the culture and music are celebrated.

The cello is a bowed four string musical instrument tuned for harmony. The appearance is that of a very large violin.

The day coincides with the birthday of renowned cellist Pablo Casals.

All the more reason to celebrate.

So if you play music or simply love to listen the day is a day for the refined musical aficionados in our midst.

Happy International Cello Day with respect to Pablo Casals.
