Archery Day 2024
    compound bow and hunting arrows
Yeah, my first and only experience with archery was totally bad. Therefore I never pursued the skill.

It happens that when we were young my brother decided to fire off an arrow into the air without even looking where he was shooting. The projectile came down and struck my cousin Regina in the head.

Now she had a pretty severe scalp laceration which was sewn up at the Emergency Room — but there could have been a penetration wound which she luckily avoided.

She was a far better sport about it all than I would have ever been.

Today is Archery Day. It is observed each second Saturday in May making it May 11th this year.

Archery has been around since the early part of man's evolution. Whereas it was once an essential military skill it is now primarily a hunting and sport affair unless you're like me and were turned off to it all as a child.

Having no personal need for ancient warfare I'll stick to 300 foot headshots with my trusty .357 magnum thank you very much.

Happy Archery Day anyway.

National Lipid Day 2024
fat cell
National Lipid Day concerns each May 10 internationally in the name of those suffering from dyslipidemia. Lipid is another term for fat. The body stores fat as energy reserves. Excess fat in the body may lead to obesity and other health problems.

The day began under the auspices of Kunjan Singh and Sanjay Suri on behalf of Zydus Cadila aka Zydus Lifesciences Limited to spread awareness about the disease. May 10 was chosen as the day on which National Lipid Day is to be observed annually.

Dyslipidemia is a metabolic disorder. It is characterized by abnormally high or low amounts of any or all lipids. Those elements of the body which constitute lipids in the blood include:

 fats
 triglycerides
 cholesterol
 phospholipids
 lipoproteins

Dyslipidemia is a risk factor for the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases which include:

 coronary artery disease
 cerebrovascular disease
 peripheral artery disease

Most dyslipidemias are hyperlipidemias, which means the presence of too much rather than too little however the affectation does go both ways on the scale of abnormality.

I too was suffering from too high triglyceride and cholesterol levels. I am now proud to say that after years of sky high readings mine are now normal. I take two little pills toward this end and after a protracted interval of treatment they have made all the difference.

Good health to you.

National Christina Day 2024
    Christina Applegate
The decade from 1987 through 1997 brought us the sitcom Married With Children. It was a fictional account of the antics of a hilarious family. One of the characters was Kelly Bundy, portrayed by Christina Applegate.

The character was a beautiful yet shallow girl child and the subtle nuances presented by Ms Applegate were sometimes stunning given the schtick and always understated.

I enjoyed the series immensely at a time when I had little about which to smile let alone laugh.

Christina Applegate is an American Actress who was born November 25, 1971. She did a number of films in her adult life winning a prime time Emmy as well as nominations for Golden Globe awards and a Tony award.

I also particularly enjoyed her performance in Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead which came out around 1991.

So today is National Christina Day. It is observed each May 9 annually.

While I have seen more of the works of others, I have always had a special place in my heart for Christina Applegate because of the character Kelly Bundy. When you say the name Christina to me only two people come to my mind. Christina Applegate is one of them.

No Socks Day 2024
feet
I remember a youth of bare feet. Indeed, I rarely wore shoes when I was a child.

I don't recall the distinct lack of mobility caused by bare feet that I experience nowadays. Even on finished concrete I am hard pressed to walk quickly and find myself compelled to put on shoes and socks.

Today is No Socks Day. It is observed annually each May 8th internationally.

Socks began their heyday some time around 1589 when the knitting machine was invented by one William Lee with an output six times greater than had been known prior to that time.

The short sighted Queen Elizabeth I declined a patent for the invention but King Henry IV of France was not quite so stupid and realized the potential for the advances in textiles and gave his financial support.

While socks are pretty much standard wardrobe these days we reserve this day to get back to the earth in bare feet. I only wish my feet weren't so tender ...

Happy No Socks Day.

Network Node Issues
    CyberPower GX1500U
The UPS for my uplink node to mom's network failed this morning.

It started crashing and burning about 8 am and continued for a couple of hours when it went into a rapidly alternating charge/discharge cycle to the point that I shut everything on the node down and contemplated a new UPS.

In my area, the power is not as reliable as it was back when it was called "SCE&G". I'm afraid that Dominion Power simply could give a rip about the foreigners they have invaded at the behest of the incompetent Public Services Commission which could really not care LESS about good service opting what must have been the biggest payment under the table they could swing.

Appearances sure make me wonder anymore.

This is mere speculation, of course but the reality is that this is one crappy power utility the state has brought in to replace the crooks they created themselves.

So, be all of this as it may I fiddled a smidge with the new equipment then tied it into the node and now everything is hunky dory ...

At least as much as it can be in the presence of sheer incompetence of the power utility and the public utilities commisson.

I used to love living here and now I totally hate South Carolina for their insipid inbred people with whom I am forced to contend in my activities of daily living.

Boo Dominion Power.
Boo Public Utilities Commission.
Boo State of South Carolina, land of the insipid inbred southerner.

... and to think I was born here.

National Foster Care Day 2024
holding hands
My parents were active in the foster care arena during the early part of my young adulthood. They kept a number of children who were not their own, providing food, clothing, shelter, and emotional support.

Some of the children were easy charges. Others not so much. It speaks well of their concern for the youth of the world that they would assume these duties as often and as long as they did.

Today is National Foster Care Day.

It happens on each first Tuesday of May making it May 7 this year.

It is a part of the larger Foster Care Month which is held in recognition of those people who take the children of the world into their homes and provide for them as though they were their own.

Foster Care Month is held under the auspices of the Children’s Bureau, National Foster Youth Institute, Child Welfare Information Gateway, Foster Club, and the Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth among other child welfare organizations.

While some children are sadly left unserved at all others remain in the foster care system too long.

The Foster Care recognition days are meant to bring to the fore those issues associated with foster care and their charges who all to often cannot choose or fend for themselves.

Happy National Foster Care Day.

King Henry VIII Ordered A Bible for Every Church
    Henry VIII

The Great Bible was a version of the Bible authorized by King Henry VIII to be read aloud in church services of the Church of England.

It was commissioned by Thomas Cromwell and prepared by Myles Coverdale and ultimately became compulsory for all English churches to own a copy of this Cromwell injunction scripture.

Thusly on May 6 1541 King Henry VIII ordered a bible in English be placed in every church in England.

My personal Bible is the King James Authorized version of 1611 and I read the Goodspeed Apocrypha the scripture of which was originally included within it's pages.

I have never been a fan of King Henry VIII because I believe him to be a murderer and without redeeming virtue or merit of character.

I attibute his character flaws to his jousting accident which left him wounded for life and from which he never recovered.

World Hand Hygiene Day 2024
washing hands
I am what is known in the venacular as a "hygiene freak". I go to great lengths to maintain a level of hygiene and will forsake everything else as necessary pursuant to that habit.

Today is World Hand Hygiene Day. It is a May 5 occurrence meant as a vehicle for improved hygiene by the more nasty people of the planet.

Microbiology will teach you of deadly and dangerous pathogens which are everywhere.

The stupid World Health Organization is unqualified to rule the world as they might like but can certainly advertise for good hand hygiene with my blessing.

I don't believe that Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus bathes much anyway. He has a certain grunge looking stank funk appearance to his third world ass as he announces how the WHO needs to assume control of the pandemic responses of the world.

Seeing how the last plandemic was a farce perpetrated by the leftist global intrusionists I personally view him, the psychopath depopulationist Bill Gates, and their ilk to be the charletains and criminal element they appear.

World Hand Hygiene Day loosely present roots in 1980 when there was a number of food borne illnesses thrust upon the world. I might add that I was working in a medical clinic and hand washing went down after each patient and typically became a 20 to 30 episode event daily.

So while I really don't think hand washing can be overdone it is important to maintain both hygiene and use a moisturizer if you're really in there having at it.

Happy World Hand Hygiene Day. The World Health Organization is death. They want to assume control of all the sovereign countries of the world which is in keeping with the United Nation's mission. Death in the name of sustainability. Depopulation is already underway by the likes of psychopath Bill Gates and his ilk.

I think the world would be a better place without both the United Nations and the World Health Organization. It seems that in grip of their world control crazy penchant globalists are compelled to overstep at every turn.

The globalist agenda is death in the name of sustainability

National Weather Observers Day 2024
I keep a fairly consistent eye on the weather. Mostly due to my intolerance of excessive heat. It seems that the deep south is known for the heat and humidity of the Summer months in particular. I pay extra to maintain a 4 ton central air conditioning unit so all my computer and networking equipment doesn't suffer — as well as my corpulent carcass.

Today is National Weather Observers Day. It is held each May 4th. The multitude of meterologists utilize government and private resources to report weather and climate conditions — and I am right in there scarfing it all up as though I really matter in the big picture.

NOAA

The day was created by one Alan Brue, a psychology major at the State University of New York on May 4, 1989. It was developed for both amateur and professional weather people to honor their passion for the weather and atmospheric phenomena.

The weather happens 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Those responsible for keeping track of meterology and climatology keep similar hours. There is also a historical records component which allows comparative weather readings and it's all very useful and interesting to me personally.

So here's to you weather observers. Keep up the good work and I'll keep right on following you !

National Paranormal Day 2024
    Cindy Kaza

Paranormal phenomena were once the subject of my harshest skepticism. Over the years I have consumed a number of reality television shows which has softened my stance on this business of spirts and ghosts and psychic mediums with a definite lean toward believing in these things.

I would have to thank The Travel Channel and their program The Dead Files for altering that bulk of my disbelief. I rue the day they canceled the program because of the departure of Amy Allan — even though her replacement is just as skilled and has a lot of diverse techniques to offer otherwise.

You think you're a valued customer of these networks only to be discarded in so cavalier a fashion that it boggles the mind. My customers always meant more to me in my line of work.

My present state of being forbids my use of Ouija boards and I attempt to maintain an arms length between me and anything out there I cannot perceive or control.

My present paranormal muse is the charming and beautiful Cindy Kaza. It used to be Amy Allan but since she has moved on to greener pastures I had to make other arrangements. After 200 some odd investigations I can certainly understand where Amy might need a break from it all.

Cindy is a lady with beautiful alabaster skin, raven hair, ruby lips, and a stupefying presence and is simply amazing in the command of her abilities, knowing her own limits, and that humanistic touch she adds to her presence on paranormal programming. Yeah, were I not so over the hill I could be in love. All I can do is pine and gaze from afar these days.

So yes, I now believe in ghosts and other spiritual phenomena. I do believe there are individuals out there who can communicate with realms unknown to me. I do not fancy myself a person with abilities. I only seek information and entertainment toward this end. I also maintain a serious modicum of caution toward these ends.

National Day of Prayer 2024
praying hands
I have lived my life praying on occasion. Sometimes it is a confession. Sometimes it is a request. Often it has been for the divine intervention for a sick family member. Lately I've been praying to win the lottery.

It seems when I was young I prayed a whole lot more frequently than I have later in life.

Faith has been a big part of who I am because of the influence of my parents. Mom was always one to have me in Church on Sundays as a child. Throughout the nation there are diverse ethnicities and their variety of belief systems.

This has given rise to a day which is all about these religions of the world.

Today is National Day of Prayer.

Our National Day of Prayer was founded by Harry S Truman and the US Congress. Of late we have a secular component of the population who would sully the notion of the One True God and prayer in general. There are religions which the adherents of which will kill you if you do not become one of their members with proof to their satisfaction.

I have always said "bring it on". Just don't let your alligator mouths outdo your hummingbird behinds. Being a Christian does not make you a second hand citizen and I am practiced at accurate head shots for a very long time now.

The heathen brigand pervert Barack Obama said that the United States was no longer a "christian" nation. Luckily he is as stupid as he is ugly. We remain Christian despite his and other democrat party efforts to the contrary.

He and his nasty tranny first ladyboy Big Mike will never prevail in this country. He should go back to his country which is Kenya and try all over again. They would likely kill him for his crass sexual perversion and misrepresentation of his existence.

So whatever is your belief today you may pray. The Obamas, the Bidens, Bill Gates, Jimmy Kimmel the rest of the democrats and their ilk who would prevent you from doing so are headed toward failure.

Great American Grump Out 2024
    grumpy
Several times in my existence I have been referred to as "grumpy" or referred to as "a grump". I chalk it all up to that disconnect I maintain between me and all else — and I make no apologies.

Today is the Great American Grump Out.

It happens each first Wednesday of May. That places it on May Day this year.

Ideally you discard the grumpy mood and marinate your attitude in happy thoughts.

Like so many of these meaningless holidays it is held under the auspices of a private citizen, one Janice A Hathy who began these particular shenanigans in 2002.

While I certainly don't find fault with the premise I find the concept of having to mark each and every dad burn day as some ersatz holiday like it really matters.

So get on out there and be putrid all you care to be. Fake happiness is better than no happiness at all.

National Mahjong Day 2024
Moraffs Mahjong layout
My Mom was a former Mahjong aficionado, playing the game for hours on end. It was the shareware version of Moraff's Mahjong and she took to it so well that I bought her the full blown retail version with a couple of tile sets way back when.

Those days of endless Mahjong appear to be long gone as I have not seen her play the game as she does solitaire all too often.

I'm thinking about trying to dangle that plum before her yet again and get another retail license for her NUC workstation which she loved so much that she saved it from me and my fit of rage wielding a 12 pound sledgehammer on the sidewalk of my home. Nothing ticks me off worse than an under provisioned computer.
I'm sorry to note of late that their lack of proper SSL support when accessing the Moraff site is an impediment to any future purchases.
Today is National Mahjong Day. It happens each year on April 30.

Mahjong is the famous tile-based game that has been around since about the 18th century in China.

It remains a popular diversion internationally and particularly throughout the Asia. It is a four-player game but can be played alone on a computer. Mahjong features a set of 144 tiles originally based on Chinese characters and symbols.

National Supply Chain Day 2024
    container ship wreck
The international supply chain is essential to commerce. Lately we have ships crashing into bridges and cargo lost at sea by dilpidated vessels which sink before even reaching port.

Today is National Supply Chain Day.

It is observed April 29 annually to ostensibly mark the importance of supply chain elements to the big picture of everyday life.

However, with the preponderance of incompetence both in operators of the supply chain vehicles and those governments controlling them the stakeholders are causing the entire mechanism to fail what is becoming frequently ...

So while the bridges collapse and the commodities sink into the oceans and bays along with the inept people operating inadequate infrastructure is there going to be a time when you can't get what you need even if your have sufficient funds ?

Boo stupid people of the world making poor supply chain decisions everywhere. Don't you wish colleges and universities EDUCATED instead of INDOCTRINATED their charges.

The democrats have really screwed up the world.
