I once smiled a lot less than I do now. Call it a function of attitude or failure to thrive ... I was often a sullen withdrawn child. This is the result of that hostility I perceived in public education. They simply lacked what it took to educate me.
Nowadays I smile a lot more and my interactions are more spontaneous — and I even attempt to be pleasant most times.
This is because I have proven myself in the workaday world. I have skills most others lack. I enjoy the prestige of a technical existence.
Today is National Smile Power Day. It is observed each June 15.
I don't know how the day arose, nor do I really care. It's another once of those 'vehicles' through which we attempt to export something to the masses. This something happens to be a facial expression.
I used to think smiling to be mostly a frivilous pursuit reserved for silly little girls. Then I encountered a number of fool boys who thought it was okay to be stupid as long as they sported a grin along with their blank expression. Now I at least attempt to meet you half way. This wasn't always the case. I no longer view smiling or a pleasant demeanor to be an aspect of frivolity.
The things that make me smile most these days is thwarting some hacker who thinks he has what it takes to exploit anyone and everyone.
Happy National Smile Power Day to you ... if it floats your boat.
