It's My Mama's Birthday 2022
    snowflake
June 17th brings my Mama's birthday.

With it comes the opportunity to tell her how much I love her and how glad I am that she is my mother.

I try to do this throughout the year but it becomes much more significant to me personally on her birthday.

She's tackled a number of health issues with an amazing cheerfulness and optimism that has allowed her to take the inevitable process of getting older in stride —

Changing what she can, accepting that which she can't and most importantly ...

Knowing the difference between them.

Truly a stellar example to follow.

Happy Birthday Mama

I love you !

Boredom thy name is Retirement
boredom emoji

Yeah, I'm supposedly in "retirement". All it presents is a lot of boring nothingness.

Rather than allow the lamer leadership to impose their microsoft inability mess on me I chose to leave my job.

While I maintain that I prefer this boredom to that sharepoint stupidity the microsoft lamers pursue it is a far cry from the busy day with which I once occupied myself.

While everyone was SO congratulatory I anticipated the reality up front. I'm one of those guys who needs somewhere to go.

I went to the want ads and searched out "work for retirees" on the google shitbox and got an indeed.com page full of a bunch of skill less nothing. It seems from these threads that the vast bulk of retirees are stupid and only good for helping others dress and bathe.

What useless nothing of a company is the pitiful indeed.com from a standpoint of practicality.

So all I do is watch teevee and collect a check when I would prefer to be out there earning much more and being bored much less.

Now I tool around with my server cluster but that's it. I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't do at least THAT much but it doesn't provide much beyond routine maintenance and the opportunity to produce a few graphics and various elements of prose.

It's all a travesty of feeble human resource people in charge of things about which they know nothing.

They might as well pack up and move to the City of Columbia and stay with the rest of the no vision can't take care of business area dummies.

Don't bother getting a Dr JB Feeder
Don't bother getting a Dr JB Feeder
I bought 2 hummingbird feeders from Dr JB's in an effort to pursue ease of weekly setup. All I got was disappointment.

The literature plainly states that they are dishwasher safe in the top rack.

However, it seems they are assembled with silicone adhesive instead of something more durable or heat resistent and even on the top rack they fell apart revealing both the shoddy construction and contaminates in the adhesive.

I paid a lot more for these feeders than I did the 32 oz Perky Pet 301 Our Best feeder which I placed into service for more than 12 years prior to taking them to the Goodwill because I trusted the JB feeders the notion of which turned out to be quite misguided.

So if you want to hand wash the things in dilute bleach solution I think they may work well for you.

If you're looking for something you can pop in the dishwasher, rinse in vinegar and not skip a beat you would be better off utilizing something not quite so inferior in construction.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Boo !

Needless to say a new set of Perky Pet feeders is now in my immediate future ... along with another trip to the Goodwill store to donate a couple of inferior Dr JBs feeders.

International Bath Day 2022
bubble bath
Yeah, I'm a hygiene freak. I have been known to bathe multiple times daily and have no qualms with jumping in the shower and lathering up at the drop of a hat.

I wasn't always this way but I think that invariable funk generated with the passage of time is impetus for getting in there and attempting to be rid of it all on a regular basis.

I never was one to take to the nickname "scrounge" in the context of hygiene nor that of "creeping crud" which is another descriptor my daddy chose to direct at me periodically when I was a child.

So now I am left with a distinct preference for smelling like ivory soap.

So today we have International Bath Day. It goes down annually on June 14.

It is observed in honor of the Greek Scientist and Mathematician Archimedes who found a method of determining the volume of a gold crown while bathing in a tub.

Archimedes noticed while taking a bath that the level of the water in the tub rose as he got in, and realized that this effect could be used to determine volume of a crown of which he had been tasked with determining the volume of gold contained therein.

His reaction to his discovery was "Eureka" which means "I have found it".

So there you have it, the day is yours whether you're just taking a dip in the local pond or bathing in a tub full of toys. Just be satisfied in that notion that cleanliness is next to godliness and we all know I can use all the help I can get.

Kitchen Klutzes of America Day 2022
    Kitchen Fire
Early on I was never too swooft in the kitchen.

Though I'm certainly still no Gordon Ramsay ... as time went on my skill level improved — but I am still one to commit the occasional culinary faux pas with varying consequences.

Thus far I have escaped all major accidents and have suffered a few relatively minor burns and one nasty palm laceration while trying to cut up a rutabaga.

Today is National Kitchen Klutzes of America Day.

It is celebrated each June 13 every year to celebrate all of us klutzes in the kitchen.

Oh brother ...

Some of those among us have dropped our favorite crock on the floor or seasoned meat with baking soda instead of salt or worse.

I personally have ended up with a spectacular flambée when all I was seeking was a sauté.

I have certainly had more than my fair share of these untoward moments preparing food.

So to those of we who are better served eating instead of preparing food, this day is for US.

National Superman Day 2022
Dad of Steel
One of my earliest forays into super heroes was the character Superman.

I watched the Adventures of Superman starring George Reeves, Noel Neill, and Jack Larson early on in my life at Virginia Beach.

I followed them into syndication and marvelled when they took that leap to color production when I encountered those later in Hanahan, SC after daddy got our first color television.

So the 12th of June brings us National Superman Day.

Held under the auspices of DC Comics since 2013, the day celebrates the "Man of Steel".

Superman has been called by many names in recent years but one thing remains common in him.

He always stood for what is best for humanity.

My last personal superman was my late stepfather Johnny H Pruett, who took me in late in his life and loved me as his own from the first day he ever saw me.

Truly, he is something that was best for my humanity at more levels than I can count and he redeemed me when no one else could or would, leaving me humbled by his memory and striving to be more like him to this day.

National German Chocolate Cake Day 2022
    German Chocolate Cake

I've been here before — many times ... one of my childhood favorites has been German Chocolate Cake.

It was a frequently requested birthday cake for as long as I can remember.

German chocolate cake aka German's chocolate cake is one of those special confections comprised of layered chocolate cake filled and topped with a coconut-pecan frosting.

A concoction originating in the United States; it is named for the English-American chocolate maker named Samuel German who developed a formulation for a dark baking chocolate that came to be used in the cake recipe. It is not an item of German extraction. I cannot remember the last time I had a piece but I would gladly revisit the taste whenever the opportunity should arise.

National Herbs & Spices Day 2022
Seasonings I use frequently

June 10th brings us National Herbs & Spices Day. It has been around since about 2015 and nobody knows how it began or who started it.

The day strikes me as being about herbs and spices in the kitchen as well as those used for medicinal purposes.

Being a lover of good food I like the idea of spicing up my dishes and have been known to keep a good stockpile of things with which to add to my cooking.

Few things are worse than bland food in my humble opinion.

Salt and Pepper are great enhancements ... but it's nice to consider broadening our taste horizons with spices such as cinnamon, oregano, basil and so forth to complement the inherent flavor of that which we eat.

    Parsley with juice

Low salt diets in particular benefit from the spices available on today's market.

I frequent the Chef's Store on Jamil Rd in Columbia and they sport one of the finest spice racks I've ever encountered ! A wall of various spices and mixtures in different sizes.

The health aspects of spices likewise should not be underrated.

Nothing is more healthy than a dose of cinamon, tumeric, garlic, or ginger.

I am a big fan of parsley juice for many years now.

I like mine with an apple juiced in it. I have been known to consume it by the pyrex quart measuring cup to the point that I become tanned looking though I never venture out into the sunshine for long.

National Donald Duck Day 2022
Donald Duck before Disney went woke
June 9th brings us Donald Duck Day.

The Disney character was a staple of my childhood entertainment hours.

I am a big fan of Donald Duck orange juice. It's something my Uncle Bill Gore first served to me and I never forgot the wonderful experience.

I have seen many permutations of both Donald Fauntleroy Duck the anthropomorphic white duck often seen in a sailor's suit as well as the other vintage characters like Huey, Dewey, and Louie in an age prior to some stupid Disney heir taking over the company and ruining it with her lackluster woke spin on everything.

Whereas I once viewed a trip to Disney World as a premiere destination I'm afraid you'll never see me there again now.

Donald Duck has a star on the Hollywood walk of fame and has appeared in innumerable films, shorts. and comics.

Portraying the short-tempered cartoon duck has been a high spot in my life up to that time Disney went all woke stupid and without redeeming virtue.

I no longer view Disney productions nor have thoughts of including Disney in vacation plans.

Thank you for ruining Disney for me stupid Disney heir. I'm sure Walt would be proud.

National Jelly-Filled Doughnut Day 2022

I used to be a big fan of donuts. Much more than I am nowadays. The cruller in particular.

Then Mr Donut left the area. It was my absolute favorite place for donuts. They turned the building into a video poker rip off joint; but that was the era in which the city of Cayce devolved.

Then my "second" choice, Dunkin Donuts, reduced their number of locations, began doing the convenience store thing, and were said to be going out of business though they still remain. I find in my old age that I have an aversion to "frozen" donut products being sold as "fresh" anyway.

Krispy Kreme Raspberry Filled Jelly Donuts

This left Krispy Kreme which ceased being a place I frequented because they abandoned the cake donut in favor of the glazed yeast donuts and their inferior taste, texture, and nutrition.

So, now I'm left with pretty much a single place I'd just as soon avoid. In their defense they do make a fine raspberry jelly filled donut that remains a personal favorite.

Yes, it is still terrible nutrition but the flavor is there to overcome that detriment in my mind. I will sometimes buy a six pack of raspberry jelly filled donuts to placate my need for delectable though lousy calorie dense foodstuffs with which to stuff my face.

I've been known to devour the raspberry jelly donut with wild abandon and great gusto — and will likely continue to do so. In my feeble mind they taste THAT good.

Yummy!

Passing through thoughts of a brief Vacation
I am thinking about a short trip to get away from all the hubub and misery of the fool rule in effect nationwide under the grossly immoral and incompetent Biden Administration.

Likely I'll be heading up to toward the Asheville area for a brief road trip. I'm considering hitting the Pigsah range ... seeing how it's right "there" and all.

The cost of gasoline could conceivably put the kybosh on some of these plans however as I am not attuned to 4$+ gallon of gasoline. Some in California are even paying up to $10 per gallon. I don't know how ANY democrat can show their stupid face with this ruination they have brought onto the country with their stealing of the election then subsequent placement of their crook ass moron toads in charge.

 Boo Biden
 Boo Harris
 Boo Democrats

states with CWP reciprocity with SC
Thank you asshole Biden administration and your vast incompetence in ruining the entire nation in just one year. Point all the fingers at departing 'advisors' as you may. You remain the senile brain dead problem.

So anyway, should I decide to take the plunge I'll be going to those states which have concealed weapons permit reciprocity with South Carolina.

May as well spend those allocated funds in friendly territory. No woke ass short sighted buffoon jurisdictions for me if you please. Too many people in the United States have become simply stupid or have manipulative ulterior motives for self gain and aggrandizement.

Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming are all viable candidates for my getaway dollars.

National Eyewear Day 2022
I have an astigmatism. This has necessitated glasses from the first grade onward. There were years I went without them but I don't think it made a significant statement nor helped in any aspect of my life.

I used to go to the opthamologist yearly. It was a function of diabetic eye care secondary to my adult onset diabetes.

One day I realized that the $600 glasses the opthomologist sold me were worse than the $20 readers I bought online and I decided that perhaps opthomology itself was somewhat of a racket and stopped all interaction with them choosing to make my own eyeware purchases under my own terms.

    rose colored glasses
Good bye $600 rip off Columbia Eye Clinic. I attempt to prevent macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy with self-monitoring, various periodic research, and of course the proper mix of nutraceuticals designed for opthalmic health and optimization. Thus far I believe it to be working satisfactorily as evidenced by diminished floaters in the vitreous of my eyes.

June 6 brings us National Eyewear Day.

The day promotes visual acuity as well as eye health and fashion.

People have been wearing spectacles for about 700 years. Originally they were primarily the purview of scholars and monks prior to the advent of the printing press in 1452 which spawned an increase in literacy and the subsequent requirement for better vision.

So in it's role as a necessity for some people we have a sector out to celebrate improvement of vision and eye protection as well as the style glasses affords to us.

Festival of Popular Delusions Day 2022
blue glass head
In my old age I suffer from few to no delusions.

Wasn't always that way. As I have previously mentioned I was a fantasy prone child held in the grip of fleeting and interchangable reality and fantasy aspects of life.

While I'm happy to say that all of this left me somewhere in the vicinity of my 28th year, there are groups which suffered far longer.

Like the democrats and their woke ilk who think it's okay for men to think they're women and women to think they're men. What a lot of unscientific delusional self indulgent buffoons.

Today is the Festival of Popular Delusions Day; a rather dubious observance from World War II.

It seems that on On June 6, 1944 some 150,000 plus troops arrived at Normandy in France to retake Western Europe from the Third Reich.

June 5, 1944, was that final day prior to the invasion and the Nazis had this delusion that their Reich would last for more than a thousand years.

So each year on June 5th we observe the Festival Of Popular Delusions Day in memory of the sick evil empire and their megalomaniac view of world domination.

I'm just glad I don't have any delusions that I know of ... popular or otherwise.

However, reality can be a very tough pill forced upon us sometimes.

Hug Your Cat Day 2022
    Bill the Cat

I live in an area with quite a few cats roaming around. My neighbor across the street is particularly fond of them with several large aged ones she coddles and over which she dotes.

The existing leash laws are unenforced and totally ignored and have no effect on them.

My personal preference in cats surrounds Berkeley Breathed's Opus comic strip and of course, Bill the Cat.

Today is Hug Your Cat Day, aka National Hug Your Cat Day, and is an unofficial holiday celebrated each June 4th.

It provides that opportunity for cat owners to express a some love to their feline companion animals if it floats their boat.

So grab that cat by it's neck and give it a good hard squeeze for about 5 full minutes.

You'll recognize that adequate love has been administered by the glassy fixed stare and protruding tongue.

No, I am not really a cat lover in case you haven't guessed.
