Spring ahead, Fall back

Yes boys and girls ... time to "Fall Back" and assume Eastern Standard Time in lieu of the ending Daylight Savings Time.

Despite the push by some states to end the time changes, we are still immersed in the convention.

Since 1966 daylight saving time begins on March 10.

At this time we turn our clocks forward one hour.

Daylight saving ended on November 3rd at 2 am.

Thusly, we turn the clocks back one hour to be compliant with Eastern Standard Time.

So this means the day will entail going around the properties and setting those clocks which do not automatically handle the time change, and yes there are a few in my household.

We will also regain that hour we lost going into Daylight Savings Time last spring.

Remembering J D Souther
    J D Souther
When I was a kid I listened to the Souther-Hillman-Furray band because it suited my then country flavored musical tastes.

It was lead by J D Souther, the songwriters Hall of Fame inductee who had hit collaborations with Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, Dan Fogleberg, Don Henley, Christopher Cross, the Eagles, Roy Orbison, and Linda Ronstadt.

I'd like to state here that I'm not a fan of 'hits' as it were.

I prefer "non-hit" versions of standards and music you don't encounter in some dull and commonplace top 40 survey.

I reject the entire notion of musical "good hits" because I don't feel there is any such thing.

Patooey !

John David Souther was born November 2, 1945 and passed September 17, 2024.

He was on the crux of an imminent tour with Karla Bonoff on September 24 in Phoenix, when he passed peacefully at home in New Mexico.

He had a brief acting career and appeared on TV and in movies.

His was a long and productive life with recognition and admiration by his fans and that of other performers with whom he collaborated.

Rest in Peace.

National Family Literacy Day 2024
books

One of those things which constitute who I am came from my mother.

We both have a love of books and have been known to immerse ourselves in reading.

She does it primarily as a pleasurable pursuit.

I do it to attain knowledge of various aspects of a technological career path. It has been less of a priority in these my retirement years, but I still engage a book or two every now and then.

Regardless, we both remain readers.

Today is National Family Literacy Day.

It happens each November 1 since 1994 under the auspices of Congressional Joint Resolution 413 and encourages families to read together.

Vocabulary skills and an understanding of various topical data are not the only things it provides.

Anything done collectively as a family also provides for that bonding essential for self esteem and feeling you belong.

National Family Literacy Day support literacy programs nationwide.

It promotes the widening of cultural horizons and brings family members closer by sharing.

Ivanka Trump Birthday 2024
    Ivanka Trump

It's the birthday of Ivanka Trump, daughter of Donald Trump whom I hope wins his second Presidential election this November 5th.

Ivana Marie "Ivanka" Trump was born October 30, 1981 in New York, NY as the second child of Donald Trump and his first wife Ivana.

She grew up to be an American businesswoman and successful entrepreneur who worked in diverse fields including real estate.

Ivanka Trump has worked as Senior Advisor to the President. She has delved into the areas of jewelry, shoes, and clothing lines. She is also a published author of The Trump Card: Playing to Win in Work and Life (2009) and Women Who Work: Rewriting the Rules for Success (2017).

She worked in her father's administration. She also served as the Director of the Office of Economic Initiatives and Entrepreneurship.

She is married to Jared Kushner who also has a solid real estate work background. They have three children.

She is known for a straight talking hard hitting business style and she imparts her imprimatur of good judgement and common sense to those projects she undertakes.

She is 57 years young today. Happy birthday to you !

National Hermit Day 2024
hermit
It has been said that I prefer the hermit lifestyle to the up and coming everybody wants you one I sometimes assumed in my career.

Unlike the hermit, I do not spend my life separated from the rest of the world.

I do, however, spend a modicum of alone time because I prefer it.

I don't know, the ghosts of those mistakes with whom I surrounded myself in the past have come to haunt me one time too many.

I chase them away and simply avoid mingling as an alternative lifestyle.

It wasn't always this way but it is now how it is.

Today is National Hermit Day.

It happens each October 29 and allows you to pursue seclusion over socialization if that is your thing.

I have responsibilities which preclude avoidance by and large but it is fun to pretend my life is my own periodically.

So, while I will never avoid humanity to the full extent of your typical hermit, I do share some of their philosophy and desire for solitude.

National First Responders Day 2024
    First Responders

A first responder is an individual with specialized training and is among the first to arrive and provide assistance, incident resolution, or other required response at the scene of an emergency. First Responders are our modern day heroes who take action during disasters. These men and women are at the forefront of that prevention of death and destruction which might be inevitable otherwise.

Unsung and often unrecognized these heroes take on the impossible that we the common people might make it.

Today is National First Responders Day. It is observed each October 28 somce 2017 under the auspices of the United States Congress in recognition of the people who are in business to quell diaster — police, fire fighters, paramedics, emergency technicians, and the entirety of those who place you first are instrumental to recovery from natural disasters, accidents, and criminal activity.

Theirs is a dangerous and difficult workday.

So the next time you encounter first responders in action it is wise to step aside and let them do their thing. It's the best thing you can do for yourself and others.

Happy National First Responders Day.

Navy Day 2024
Arleigh Burke class destroyer Flight III

scqm rating badge
October 27 brings us Navy Day. It is an unofficial but highly relevant celebration by we supporters of the Navy. It goes down 2 weeks after the birthday of the Navy. Since 1922 this day was created under the auspices of the Navy League for honoring and supporting the men and women of the Navy.

It was officially observed until 1949 when the first Secretary of Defense, peckerhead Louis A Johnson, announced that Armed Forces Day would officially replace Navy Day commencing the following year. What a chicken shit coward.

The Navy League is a civilian organization and was therfore unaffected by peckerhead Johnson’s directive. They continued to organize events celebrating the original Navy Day on October 27, well attended by both civilians and Navy personnel.

As a Navy man from a Navy family I observe Navy Day and everything else Navy in honor of my daddy MMCM Jim Williamson, Jr. My nephew the QMCS carries on the family navy tradition. I only wish daddy were here to see his success passing through the ranks.

So a happy Navy Day to you.

National Transgender Children Day 2024
    child perv with mom perv

Here we go with another celebration of the perversion of the United States of America. National Transgender Children Day is a day to mark the sicko parents who support their children's lack of judgement in an effort to coddle stupidity by allowing claims of gender other than the genetic original imparted at birth is reality — or even relevant.

There are but 3 sexual classifications within that spectrum called "normal". They are derived SOLELY by your chromosomal configuration. No amounts of claiming otherwise or playing dress up to appear the part will EVER make it reality.

1.  If your sex chromosomes are in an XX configuration you are a genetic female.

2.  If your sex chromosomes are in an XY configuration you are a genetic male.

3.  There are variants on this combination of sex chromosomes called genetic mosaic whereby you may exhibit combinations of sexual characteristics but this remains in the sphere of normal.

National Transgender Children Day was the mind fart of unscientific idiot Jill Rubin Aul in 2019. She should be summarily executed and placed on display in a large jar of alcohol like the ignorant freak she is.

The two aspects of body image are genotype and phenotype. Genotype refers to those characteristics imparted by genetics and are part and parcel of who you are. Phenotype is that set of characteristics brought on my cosmetics and surgery and it does not change the reality of who you are. The stupid accepting parents cannot change these aspects of your existence. They, like their stupid transgender children are living a lie.

Your feelings do not matter when it comes to your genotype and phenotype. These are are fixed entities within your biological makeup. Transgender is not a biology it is a figment of perverted imagination which was once recognized as the pathology it remains.

Pardon me while I decline to overlook your blatant idiocy.

National Fine Art Appreciation Day 2024
fine art exmple
I have been to the Louvre in Paris. I have also been to the Prado in Madrid. I spent a couple of days at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. It's a sad notion that I will never return to New York for their criminal lawfare activities.

I've been to the Smithsonian in Washington DC. I have visited the National Gallery in London. I spent hours in the Sistine Chapel of the Vatican and visited the Vatican Museums twice in my life.

I was once the consumate museum attendee but I fear those days are lost to me forever. While on these excursion I spent hours and sometimes day perusing the fine art.

My attraction to oils, sculpture, and other media has always been a compelling factor in my motivations.

Today is National Fine Art Appreciation Day. It is observed each October 25 since 2018 under the auspices of RoGallery of New York City — and is a day for the appreciation of fine works of art. Too bad New York is politically lacking in any semblence of juris prudence or even fair play.

I recall enrolling in Art Appreciation in the ninth grade at Goose Creek High School and thinking all I had to do is look at things and say "yeah, I appreciate that". Wasn't quite so cut and dry I'm afraid. Music Appreciation was no better.

I hope that you will take this day to expand your cultural horizons if only a smidge.

Happy National Fine Art Appreciation Day rude criminal New York yankee bitches.

National Bologna Day 2024
Wonderbar Bologna
Wonderbar Bologna
I have always liked bologna sandwiches. This has been since early childhood. Later in life I became more of the bologna connoisseur and this has caused me to favor the brand Wunderbar when it comes to bologna because it is a less fatty more well rounded flavor in a cold cut.

Today is National Bologna Day. As processed meat goes I do enjoy it but those nitrites contained therein have been a cause for caution in my dietary habits. I try to quell the propensity for nitrosamine formation by increasing the vitamin C and taking other nutrients which aid toward that end.

I don't eat bologna because it's bad for me. I eat it because I like it.

Bologna is named after the Italian city Bologna. There it is known as mortadella — a sausage with bits of lard and peppercorns in it.

A fried bologna sandwich and beverage makes for a wonderful meal. If you don't care for cold cuts you don't know what your missing. Again, I strongly recommend Wunderbar bologna. It's simply the best.

Happy National Bologna Day to you !

National Slap Your Coworker Day 2024
    frustrated
Today is one of those contrived holidays in which you might find me participating.

The coworker can sometimes be a taxing issue in the office. Sometimes their needs are said to outweigh your own whereby they will interrupt what you have going on to pursue their requirements as a priority. There is also a propensity for some to gab all day long, pop bubble gum, clip frabbid fingernails and of course — suck up to the boss whomever he or she might be.

Today is National Slap Your Coworker Day. It happens each October 23 and is that time to take matters into your own hand upside someone's head and thwack that annoying coworker who may be bugging you. Go all Power Slap on them.

Yes, sometimes the only solution is to bitch slap someone's bitch ass. I would be the very FIRST to do it. This is that day you've been awaiting ever since the annoying coworker came to work there.

So I hope you'll take the opportunity to set someone in their place posthaste. After all, they've been asking for it. May as well give it to them. Make them spit teeth.

Happy National Slap Your Coworker Day.

International Caps Lock Day 2024
caps lock
Today is international Caps Lock day. Don't ask me why.

This joke even gets observed twice annually, once on October 22 and then again on June 28.

The day is ostensibly a warning against the efficacy of email crafted in all upper case.

It is written that the day began in 2000 by an Iowa software developer named Derek Arnold.

I feel that Mr Arnold panders to the stupid ... which is something I decline to do for a long time now.

Caps Lock controls the case of letters on computers and typewriters and as such is a purpose action driven mechanism.

The entire notion that the case of letters can convey anger, shouting, or anything else beyond the meaning of those words written fails to register in my mind anymore — though I did hear the notion presented early on in my career.

I thought it dumb then and still do. What a dumb ass notion for a so-called holiday. Just think ... with this stupidity you EVEN get a two-fer. Good grief.

National Check Your Meds Day 2024
    taking medication

One day I began to question my mother's compliance with her prescriptions. This brought about a change in the way we handled her daily requirements for health care. Now each morning I prepare all the items she is supposed to take for health maintenence and at 5 pm that day we do a recheck and take any remaining medications.

We have found this somewhat more tolerable than those questionable practices whereby I think she would go days without taking any of her meds. I then added a few nootropics and some other OTC metabolic health items I thought might help.

Today is National Check Your Meds Day. It happens annually on October 21 under the auspices of the National Community Pharmacists Association. It was established in 2017 by the US Department of Health and Human Services who I view as a bunch of irrelevant politically motivated ninnys anyway based on their handling of so-called 'plandemics' like COVID and Bird Flu which are being used as an attempt to control we tax payers. In theory this day is for patients to bring their prescriptions to their local pharmacists for review.

Now, while I think this is well and good I have reviewed her meds with her physician and I am sure she is taking those medications prescribed. Since she is on Express Scripts pharmacologic consultations are really not ideal any way.

Pharmacists can remove any prescriptions that have expired, update prescriptions as necessary, and answer consumer questions. If nothing else, it’s a rare chance for consumers to get free medical advice. I don't feel the need for pharmacists in my life. I should be able to go and buy those medications I want to take off of the shelf. This does not happen in a medical industrial complex out to control what you may or may not do. Thusly, there is a dark web and black market whereby you may skip these controls. The only problem with this is having the wherewithall to insure you get what you pay for. This additional vigilence in acquisition also adds to the cost. Caveat Emptor: let the buyer beware
