Perihelion Day 2025
perihelion representation
In this context perihelion is used to refer to that point in the orbit of the Earth placing it closest to the sun. The opposite position is called aphelion.

Perihelion Day is on January 4 this year.

It goes down about 2 weeks after each December Solstice with the Earth’s center at approximately 91,402,500 miles from the sun’s center.

There are calculations devised to predict perihelion passage. On this day, the solar chomosphere typically appears at its largest.

It is quite interesting to see what goes on in the universe and the planet on which we live. Perihelion is one of those many interesting occurrences. While I view it all as interesting astronomical curiosa it does not rule my existence as it did in pagan times. Enjoy this day of solar proximity.

Women Rock! Day 2025
Heart Ann and Nancy Wilson

Nancy Wilson of Heart is one of the most accomplished guitarists I've ever heard.

I have been enthralled by her riffs, transitions, and solos to the point that I will buy her music having never heard it before.

She is a true Woman of Rock and is part and parcel of Women Rock! Day.

The day is celebrated each January 3rd to honor those musicians who have made their mark in a genre that some thought was only the purview of men.

Both Ann and Nancy Wilson certainly qualify hands down — and there are many other ladies equally famous and qualified in their own right.

Happy Women Rock! Day.

I don't care what you do, just do it well. Like Nancy Wilson.

World Introvert Day 2025
Alleged Introvert
Well, considering the introvert I am lead to believe that the perception is likely much more than the reality.

I for one was considered an introvert for the vast bulk of my childhood. Nowadays, you wouldn't have the slightest notion that that was a personality trait of mine at all. Suffice it to say that the trepidations which squashed my spontaneity have all but evaporated from my essense like so much flatulence in the wind.

Today is World Introvert Day. A day to celebrate those who turn their psyches upon themselves opting for their own company instead of everyone else.

Like the introvert I like my space. Like them also you may refer to me as a "loner". However when push comes to shove and you think you might have your way with me in public think again. Those calm environments which bring me solace simply will not save you from me should you trigger my ire. Fist fight ? Sure. I love the rough stuff.

The introvert was outed early on by the Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung. The day itself is the notion of one Felicitas Heyne. Like all other psychologists and psychiatrists upon the planet I have no use for them personally. You who care to indulge should always feel free to engage their psychological labels for all occasions as though they matter.

Me, I'll simply remain who I am then grin and confront it as required.

Happy World Introvert Day anyway.

James Earl Carter Jr passed at 100
    James Earl Carter Jr

James Earl Carter Jr was born on October 1, 1924 and passed yesterday, December 29, 2024. He was an American politician and humanitarian and served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981.

A member of the Democratic Party, he served from 1963 to 1967 in the Georgia State Senate and from 1971 to 1975 as the 76th governor of Georgia.

Mr Carter was the longest-lived president in US history and the first to live to 100 years of age.

However, his presidency is only ecclipsed by that of the incompetent Joseph Biden as being the worst in US history.

Rest in peace libtard democrat. You were truly a decent man but sometimes that simply is not enough.

National Resolution Planning Day 2024
2025 New Years Resolutions

So the new year rapidly approaches. Time for those resolutions by you who are resolute. Whereas I once did resolutions annually nowadays I usually just skip it all because I haven't been good at keeping them and they become obscured in that mist of daily drudgery which life becomes for some of us.

The idea is to attempt to formulate some viable self help list of good ideas which adapt themselves to you personally.

You can prepare for a change in yourself, your attitudes, you psyche. You should attempt to set attainable goals. Don't go crazy with a lot of resolutions. A few well aimed ones are far better than some exhaustive unrealistic list.

Your ideas for self improvement should be specific to you and your situation. You break down large goals into smaller ones. They need to be written down and shared as appropriate. If you have mechanisms of automation at your disposal they will improve the process.

Trying new foods, reading more, making yourself available to friends and family, volunteering, donating, exercise, and being more kind are all admirable pursuits. I doubt that I will be going there but you should feel free.

Today is National Resolution Planning Day. It happens on December 30 in the name of getting that headstart on setting attainable goals for next year. The success rate for new years resolutions hangs at a dismal 10% or so. Regardless, a fresh start can never hurt. New years resolutions were began by the Babylonians and continued by the Romans. So that precedent for self improvement has been around a long time now ...

Eons in fact.

The term new years resolutions is said to be first coined by a Boston newspaper in 1813. If you view self-help and improvement a priority I hope you'll get out there and make yourself better in accordance in those areas you feel are important.

Happy National Resolution Planning Day.

Pledge of Allegiance Day 2024
    Pledge of Alliegiance
When I was a child we dutifully stood before the flag, placed our right hands over our hearts and recited the Pledge of Alliegiance each day prior to commencing our lessons.

We displayed patriotism. It wasn't something we viewed as a chore nor unpleasant. It was something we did to feel united with the nation.

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

These days we have people who claim residence yet dare to sully the pledge of allegiance as though it's not their flag. As far as I am concerned you can show the respect it's due or move your illegal alien carcass back to where you came from at your own expense.

I for one am tired of those who would trivialize our patriotism just because they don't feel it.

I'm perfectly satisfied to start making them pay. Athiests be damned say the pledge or leave. Exercise extreme caution in your disrespect in the name of your own well being. We are in a different time now. A different place. You will not be tolerated and the Pledge of Alliegiance isn't going anywhere heathen interlopers ...

You are.

National Fruitcake Day 2024
Miss Fogartys Cake
In keeping with the holiday season, today we mark National Fruitcake Day.

Yeah, some of us are more "cake and nut" centric in this regard while I am a full blown fruity fruit cake kindo guy !

I like a booze soaked chewy rich cake full of dried fruit, nuts and such drenched in some nice brandy wrapped in a white sheet and a plastic bag over time ...

This dense confection has been a favorite of mine since young childhood. Mama used to make fruitcake in this manner when I was a kiddo.

Fruitcake is generally served around the holidays which is the likely origin of my love for them.

Whatever your pleasure, the straight "nut cake" or the full blown "fruit cake" I hope you get the opportunity to indulge this holiday season.

Happy National Fruitcake Day.

National Thank You Note Day 2024
    Thank you note
The humble thank you note. Displayer of appreciation. Creator of consensus.

I have opted for thank you notes occasionally in business to universal benefit. Those who mark an event with a brief appreciatory token are bound to endear themselves to others at some level.

Sometimes, decision on the edge are pushed to one side or the other by the thoughtfulness of a thank you note.

Today is December 26. This makes it the Feast of Stephen and National Thank You Note Day. Sometimes the written word is more effective than a phone call.

We don't know how or why this day was created. We can only recognize the efficacy of giving thanks in general ... plus the fact that a lot of gifts get received on December 25th !

Regardless, happy National Thank You Note Day and get out there and display your grattitude.

Festivus 2024
Happy Festivus
Another Festivus is upon us. This secular holiday is celebrated on December 23 as an alternative to the perceived pressures and commercialism of the Christmas season.

It is the brainchild of one Daniel O'Keefe who is an author. Festivus became mainstream upon being featured in the 1997 Seinfeld episode entitled "The Strike" in which O'Keefe's son, Dan O'Keefe, co-wrote.

The non-commercial holiday's celebration, as depicted on Seinfeld, occurs on December 23 and includes a Festivus dinner, an unadorned aluminum Festivus pole, practices such as the "airing of grievances" and "feats of strength", and the labeling of easily explainable events as "Festivus miracles". The episode refers to it as "a Festivus for the rest of us".

It is described as a parody and form of playful consumer resistance.

It is also said to be the perfect all inclusive holiday gathering.

Regardless of whether you have love or scorn for Festivus, the efforts of the late Frank Costanza has assured it will be around for quite a while.

Happy Festivus and let the airing of grievances and feats of strength begin ! A little Festivus miracle or two is appropriate as well after the Festivus dinner.
