I once viewed myself as an "achiever". In retrospect, I suppose I was just a legend in my own mind.
Sure, I am lucky to have had the career and the cushy retirement but at what cost?
Today is International Day for Achievers.
It is one of those multinational observances to honor and acknowledge people who have made significant contributions to their chosen field.
Therein lay where I fall short.
I made significant contributions to Dave but that's about it.
I gave up on research early on and really became preoccupied with the latter days more than the world at large. So much for innovations, eh ?! I suppose in the end it was all rather selfish.
International Day for Achievers occurs each. March 24. It is said that even small contributions qualify as valid achievement. Contrary to conventional wisdom, my personal view is that small contributions are not about the same as large ones.
While I would have loved a career in medical research; the practicalities of eating and living indoors caused me to opt for what I already knew and build upon that. So I'm just a glorified geek ... but what a wild ride it has been.
Happy International Day for Achievers to you who deserve it. I regret that I am not one of you.
