I am not a veteran of the Viet Nam war. I am a "Viet Nam Era" veteran. There is a big difference.
Vietnam Veterans Day is an annual March 29 ocurrence commemorating those hardships made by the 9,000,000 Americans who were sent to the Vietnam War by the idiots in charge as well as that history they made.
Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam was the stage for the Vietnam debacle. The service members called to duty in Vietnam increased greatly due to the effect of a so-called "domino theory" when indicated that if one south east asis country fell others would follow.
This was never realized.
On November 5, 1969 the US withdrew and pretty much abandoned all the natives who were allies of the fighting men in the United States. I recall the scramble to board helicopters and the numerous natives who didn't get a seat.
On March 29, 1973, President Richard Nixon officially withdrew the American combat forces from Vietnam. 60 days later I would graduate from high school.
The next year, the first Vietnam Veterans Day was held.
Our fighting people were placed in a war then not allowed to win. What a crumby way to fight a country. What an equally bad treatment of those who assisted you in that country you invaded.
The leadership of the United States blew this one square out their ass.
