World Day of Social Justice 2026
the UN is death

World Day of Social Justice is an annual international observance held on February 20 ostensibly formed to promote efforts tackling poverty, exclusion, gender inequality, unemployment, and human rights violations.

Declared by the UN in 2007, it emphasizes that social justice is essential for peace, security, and development while they gain control of you and your government surreptitiously. Their social justice consisting woke agendas forced on the populace by their leftist membership will never prevail in a free society.

Don't fall for the subterfuge which is their deviant spin on what they like to call "sustainability" but is instead a rather transparent ploy to either rule and control you and where you may live or kill you.
Make the UN leave you and yours alone.

The United Nations is an evil organization by which the leadership of third world nations seek to usurp and assume dominion over you and your property toward their own nefarious ends.

Don't fall for them or their misleading tactics like Agenda 2030, the World Health Organization and the other mechanism they employ to try and control how and where you live.

Keep what is yours. Get us OUT of the United Nations.

The UN Agenda 2030 is death

UN Bufoons

The UN wants to kill you and take what is yours

Get the US out of the UN

The UN wants to rule you by decree

National Drink Wine Day 2026
    wine spodiodi
I once drank a lot more wine than I do now. Well, seeing how I'm presently pretty much a teetotaler I don't drink any these days.

Suffice it to say I find the lifestyle satisfactory and I certainly will imbibe a little at the request of a host when an invited guest. Could a little snootful really hurt.

Today is National Drink Wine Day.

It is observed each year on February 18th under the auspices of one Todd McCalla who is obviously an exceptional sot.

It is one of those "unofficial" holidays which inspires us to try new varieties as a part of the human experience.

Analog to Digital TV Day 2026
My mama loves Perry Mason

I remember the old analog television days and that day the powers that be decided to switch over to digital broadcasts. The Digital Transition and Public Safety Act of 2005 mandated the switch to improve signal quality and repurpose spectrum.

This involved purchasing an analog to digital converter for the existing television so that they could interoperate with the new system and I felt impending gloom and doom for a while before I realized that the mess was working fine.

Today is Analog to Digital TV Day.

It typically goes down around February 17th or June 12th and marks the historic US transition from analog to digital broadcasting.

It was originally scheduled for February 17, 2009 with the final switch happening that June 12. I must say that the picture quality and sound were improvements over the old stuff and my trepidations were totally unfounded.

Nowadays you buy digital televisions and there is no need for any type of converter box.

Robert Duvall Passed Yesterday
Robert-Duvall
Robert Duvall
January 5, 1931 - February 15, 2026

One of my favorite actors passed yesterday. Robert Selden Duvall died at the age of 95 in Middleburg, Virginia. His was a long life and illustrious career of character acting which brought me much pleasure in the form of theatrical entertainment over the years.

He was born on January 5, 1931, in San Diego to Mildred Virginia (Hart) who was an amateur actress, and William Howard Duvall, a career military man who later became an admiral.

His was a life of steady work and many portrayals which I watched with great interest.

Some of my favorite portrayals from among his work include:

The Godfather franchise as Tom Hagen over many varying years
Deep Impact as Spurgeon Tanner in 1998
Sling Blade as Karl's father in 1996
A Family Thing as Earl in 1996 (he was also the producer)
Falling Down as Prendergast in 1993
Lonesome Dove as Augustus McCrae in 1989
Apocalypse Now as Lt Colonel Kilgore in 1979
To Kill A Mockingbird as Boo Radley in 1962

Aw gee, we've lost a wonderful actor known for a mannered presentation and we'll not see talent of his astounding range again soon.

Rest in Peace

Presidents Day 2026
It's another Presidents Day.

    Mount Rushmore
Though officially Washington's Birthday the feds have provisioned it as a holiday in the United States celebrated on the third Monday of February.

It is typically celebrated to honor all those who served as president of the United States.

Since 1879, has been the federal holiday honoring Founding Father George Washington.

Washington led the Continental Army to victory in the American Revolutionary War.

He then presided at the Constitutional Convention of 1787.

He served as the first US president from 1789 to 1797.

It has devolved into a day for sales and other such drivel associated with consumerism in the United States.

Happy President's Day anyway.

Singles Awareness Day 2026
single girls
I've had my share of those amorous interactions and seeking to pair off — yet never doing so. So while I have remained single, a number of other paramours such as those with whom I have interacted have likewise remained so.

Today is Singles Awareness Day.

Though not an official federal holiday, It is observed each February 15th — which is that day after Valentine's Day in the name of empowerment and a lighthearted alternative to celebrate singlehood and self appreciation.

It is held since 2001 under the auspices of one Dustin Barnes in the name of high school agers who may lack a complex world view celebrating the notion of being single and to dissuade some from those romantic pressures of Valentine's Day. The day seeks to dissipate any myths about single life celebrating independence rather than focusing on a lack of a partner. It reminds us that happiness and validation do not require a romantic relationship and expresses appreciating personal freedom, friendships, and self-care.

Me, I'm okay with remaining single given the pitfalls of seeking partnership as a lifestyle. I prefer this to a lifetime of whining and excuses for some poor choice otherwise.

Happy Singles Awareness Day.

Valentines Day 2026
    Happy Valentines Day
Saint Valentine’s Day is celebrated today.

An annual February 14th observance, it is a global holiday dedicated to expressing love, affection, and friendship through greetings, gifts, flowers, and chocolates.

It's origins are a Christian feast day honoring St Valentine of Rome.

He was a 3rd century priest brutally executed on February 14th for secretly marrying couples against the orders of Emperor Claudius II.

The day evolved during the middle ages into a celebration of romance.

Those origins are the Roman festival of Lupercalia. It became a Christian feast day by Pope Gelasius I in the 5th century.

It later became associated with romantic love in the 14th century, linked to traditions of courtly love and the belief that mid February was the start of bird mating season.

During my career with the City of Columbia I became immersed in the tradition of chocolates for the ladies at work.

These were always consumed with great relish and I have seen 5 two pound Whitman's Samplers go down like so much fluff in a strong wind.

I have always wondered if somebody took my place after they ran me off. Probably not.

National Self-Love Day 2026
self love
So this may appear rather self serving but today is National Self-Love Day.

The entire concept raises images of self indulgent sexual overtones and erotic auto stimulatory interludes here and there. Really, I do have better and more productive preoccupations with which to concern myself.

This day is observed each year on February 13 in the name of fostering self-compassion, care, and high regard for one's own well-being.

It is intentionally scheduled the day before Valentine's Day and serves as a reminder that self-love is foundational, encouraging individuals to practice self-care, set boundaries, and honor their own needs.

It is a day to remind yourself that you are worthy of love, specifically the love you give to yourself and the notion that you should stop putting yourself last.

Happy National Self-Love Day. Go ahead, give yourself a big hand.

I hope you're ready for Valentines Day tomorrow.

Darwin Day 2026
    Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin's gave the world the theory of evolution. It explained that by natural selection species change over time through descent from common ancestors. Those advantageous traits become more prevalent as organisms adapt to their environment. It is a foundational concept in modern biology.

He proposed Natural Selection as the mechanism by which organisms better adapted to their environment are more likely to survive, reproduce, and pass beneficial traits to their offspring, leading to gradual changes in the species.

He established that all life shares a common ancestry, and shifted our understanding from supernatural process to natural processes as detailed in his book On the Origin of Species.

He introduced common descent as the idea that all living things are related and evolved from a single ancestral species.

He provided a scientific framework whereby evolution was transformed from philosophical speculation into a testable scientific theory, supported by evidence from geology, paleontology, and biology.

His work provided a unified explanation for the diversity and complexity of life, influencing genetics, ecology, anthropology, and even psychology.

Darwin provided a natural, scientific explanation for how life adapts and diversifies and this was a shift from a supernatural to a natural-laws-based understanding of the planet biosphere.

We mark another Darwin Day in commemoration of the birthday of Charles Darwin on February 12, 1809.

The day is used to highlight Darwin's contributions to science and to promote science in general.

Darwin Day is celebrated internationally.

I sometimes wonder if various individuals ever had the opportunity to participate in any form of evolution or natural selection. There are even awards for these types called hilariously 'The Darwin Awards'. It really is amazing how far others may go in pursuit of that utter lack of comportment and inane refinement they exhibit.

Happy Darwin Day.

National Make a Friend Day 2026
Wrestler Fred Ottman
I have had issues over the years making friends. It seems that I entrust those who are untrustworthy at times and the residual hard feelings have been a difficult matter to overcome.

Today is National Make a Friend Day.

It is observed each year on February 11th and promotes meeting new people, cultivating new relationships, and appreciating existing friends.

It highlights the importance of social connections for personal growth, health, and happiness, often by encouraging people to step out of their comfort zone.

I now have a lot of good friends with whom I interact as often as possible. We have get togethers at the sushi restaurant where they marvel at both my sushi connoisseur expertise ... and my appetite for sushi and sashimi.

I haven't always wanted to be the friend I should be. I have lived to regret some of those actions which resulted from this attitude. As the adage goes, "If you want a friend, be a friend". I now try to be as good a friend as you may acquire in your lifetime. I attribute this to trial and error; learning from my mistakes.

Happy National Make a Friend Day to you.

National Umbrella Day 2026
    Gustbuster tour series black
Yeah I was once quite the toter of fine umbrellas.

I have owned a steady progression of Gustbusters and Davek models and I certainly prefer the fine tuned mechanics of the Davek over the others. However, the Gustbuster was my first really significant umbrella and holds a special place in my heart on rainy days ...

I likewise prefer a solid black umbrella over one of the various other colors and or combinations of them available. I dunno the plain black just spoke to me in the pouring deluge.

Today is National Umbrella Day.

It is observed each year on February 10 to take note of that protector of the populace from the weather — the umbrella.

The umbrella will go a long way toward keeping you dry when the precipitation surrounds you. I highly recommend having one around for those days when inclement weather might get the best of you.

All too often I have found myself without an umbrella and being pelted by large cold rain drops in the wind.

Verily I say unto you: go out now with adequate protection — particularly if the condition of your garments matters for public engagements.

Also, a Gustbuster makes a wonderful impromptu gift for that lady friend of yours with the young children huddled around her in the rain. I recall the compliments I received after handing off my Gustbuster to a friend with children in tow. My friend told me she and her kiddies were able to cross the city streets without getting wet at all in the hard cold pouring rain.

It doesn't hurt to attempt being nice every now and then.

National Clean Out Your Computer Day 2026
Clean Your Computer
At first glance you may have visions of merry maids coming by with soap and water to scrub your machine.

Suffice it to say that the "clean out" being mentioned here is a clearing of old obsolete items of data, cache, updates, temporary work files ...

You know, all those thing which were once in vogue with the operations of the machine but are required no longer. Then there is an optimization procedure which includes defragmentation and consolidation of the existing relevant information.

Today is National Clean Out Your Computer Day.

It goes down each second Monday of February making it February 9, 2026 this year and it is simply a reminder that you should digitally declutter, organize files, update software, and clean the physical hardware for better performance and security, tackling everything from old files to dust buildup.

It's a day to give your devices the "TLC" they need to run efficiently, much like cleaning a physical workspace. Actually, I view it more as SOP than TLC. The whole nature of TLC implies an emotional component I cannot visualize in a machine.

So boost that performance, enhance your security, improve your productivity during this time of National Clean Out Your Computer Day.

Out with the old and unnecessary. In with the new and updated.

Happy National Clean Out Your Computer Day.

A moment to remember Anna Nicole
    Anna Nicole Smith
There was a woman named Anna Nicole Smith who was born with a pretty face and insufficient intellect to survive the modern treachery of would be lovers out for her fundage and the tragedy which was her children subjected to her decisions as they applied for both herself and them.

She was hanging out with an attorney named Howard K Stern who would assume control of her and ultimately led her astray whereby she passed from combined drug intoxications in Hollywood, Florida on February 8, 2007. She had not attained the age of 40.

Born Vickie Lynn Hogan on November 28, 1967 in Houston, Texas, she assumed several different names over the years such as Vickie Lynn Smith, Vickie Lynn Marshall and Nikki Hart in her pursuit of matrimony and success. She worked as a model, actress, TV personality, and IMHO gold digger in pursuit of that elusive happiness she never obtained.

She bore two children, appeared as a Playboy centerfold, was declared Playboy Playmate of the Year in 1993, and became involved with Mr Stern to a large degree — to the point that he was listed as the father on her daughter Dannielynn's birth certificate. Subsequent DNA testing proved that photographer Larry Birkhead was the biological father. This in and of itself is indicative of where she was intellectually toward the end of her life.

I have great sympathy for Anna Nicole because all in all the her story remains largely a tragedy beyond boundaries and I only hope she has found that peace and fame she always sought in life. I think she deserved better than she ever received.

National Send a Card to a Friend Day 2026
Ewe card

Hello dere ...

Today is National Send a Card to a Friend Day.

It theorizes that strengthening friendships with handwritten notes, cards, and so forth through the mail is both possible and desirable.

Why be that sameole ecard freak so many of my friends pursue with vigor.

The day goes down each February 7 in the name of quaint alternatives to digital communication with what is hopefully construed as a thoughtful physical connection between two people.

I am one to make my cards — ecard or not — and include some thought or memory.

Thank you cards are a biggie in this genre.

It is hoped that this manner of communication will boost those connections and combat that perception of impersonality sometimes accompanying electronic media.

So I think your ass should get out there and send a card that includes snail mail postage and paper !

Happy National Send a Card to a Friend Day.
