National Alphabet Magnet Day 2026

    alphabet magnets
When I was a child I enjoyed playing with alphabet magnets.

Actually the set included digits and I could be caught stylizing various little cutesy messages because I thought it was fun.

Sometimes they were well received other times not so much.

Other times we might take it upon ourselves to have little spelling lessons along some metal surface accessible by some kiddie in need of remediation.

Today is National Alphabet Magnet Day.

It is observed on May 9 and paystribute to those colorful little letters (and numbers) that have been a fixture on refrigerator doors for generations.

These simple toys have initated vocabulary growth in toddlers and children, sparked inside jokes between roommates, and resulted in surprisingly witty messages between spouses who never run out of things to say at eye level.

The toys endure because they exist at an intersection of play, communication, and everyday creativity with which our newer digital alternatives have never quite managed to compete.

Happy National Alphabet Magnet Day
