On this day in 753 BC Rome was founded.
According to legend, Rome was founded on April 21, 753 BC, by Romulus.
He became its first king after killing his twin brother, Remus, following a dispute over which hill upon which to build.
Palatine Hill was favored by Romulus and the Aventine Hill was favored by Remus.
Romulus founded the city on Palatine Hill, named it Rome, established the Senate, and created the first military units.
The twins were purportedly sons of Mars and abandoned at the Tiber River before being nursed by a she-wolf.
Romulus and Remus were grandsons of Numitor of Alba Longa.
They were ordered to be drowned but were spared and raised by a shepherd and his wife, Faustulus and Acca Larentia.
The traditional date of 753 B.C. was established by scholar Marcus Terentius Varro.
The story serves more as a foundational myth connecting Rome to divinity and noble ancestry than as literal historical fact.

Today is 4/20 making it International Weed Day.
This day celebrates and touts marijuana which remains largely illegal in the United States.
Far be it from me to buck the legality issues nor the health controversies surrounding "the weed with the roots in Hell" for I quit all recreational drugs some 30 years ago.
I remain fine with this decision and I'm okay if weed becomes legalized as well.
I guess I'm either very flexible or ambivalent.
I never missed the pot smoking from that first day I stopped partaking.

- Premiere of The Simpsons in 1987

On this day in 1987 The Simpsons created by Matt Groening first appeared as a series of animated shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show. These first efforts were typically less than a minute in length.
Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie would evolve into the highly polished iteration I watched for many years until I figured I was too old and mature to continue this childs play.
Who could guess that monster of entertainment they would ultimately become. The shorts were produced by Klasky Csupo and featured a much rougher, sketch-like animation style compared to the later, polished series.
These shorts ran for three seasons before being spun off into the half-hour series in 1989. The very first Simpsons short, was entitled "Good Night,"
And thusly the legend began ...

It is World Heritage Day, aka the International Day for Monuments and Sites was created in 1982 by the International Council on Monuments and Sites.
As is usual, the UN tries to step in and assume credit for any and all things even though they are an international coalition of third world foreigners out to rule and own your property and even take your life if they encounter difficulties confiscating everything you own.
They tout a vague definition they call "sustainability" as their rationale for killing everyone outside their purview and taking over their property via agenda 2030 and other subterfuge. Green areas hell. They want to bury you and assume ownership of your legacy.
The WHO is simply another arm of this insidious criminal organization who needs to vacate the United States while they still can. Someday we'll get a President strong enough to evict these degenerates immediately and confiscate that part of New York given to them by John D Rockefeller, Jr who had more money than sense. He donated the funds to purchase the land for the United Nations headquarters in New York City
World Heritage Day is observed annually on April 18 under the auspices of The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization which simply another mechanism by which they attempt to control the world.
The thrust is to define cultural identities worldwide so they will know exactly who they are taking over and how they may pillage that culture for their own gain.
The day was created to raise awareness about the importance of preserving cultural and historical sites worldwide.
The United Nations is death. They are third world criminals who wish to take charge of your affairs and own you.

We use the word "blah" to refer to something boring or without apparent meaning.
It can also refer to a depressed state of mind. Mostly it means dull and unexciting. It is a substitute for words in actual contextual speech as a substitute for the tedious or lengthy reality.
Today is Blah Blah Blah Day. It occurs each April 17 and is supposed to be a lighthearted vehicle to inspire people to finally listen to nagging advice from friends or family.
It may also be utilized as impetus to stop procrastinating on their New Years resolutions.
The day intends to get you to stop making excuses and follow through on promises or tasks you've upon which you may have been procrastinating. It attempts to declassify tasks that have been ignored as meaningless noise in your existence.
So this is the day cut through the noise and start acting on the advice or goals you've been pushing aside for however long you may have been doing so.

The editing character symbolizes mental health awareness day focused on suicide prevention, addiction recovery, and self-injury support.
The day recognizes suicide survivors and raises awareness and support for those suffering with mental health from beneath their crayola red, green, and blue colored hair.
The semicolon (;) itself serves as a symbol of hope.
It represents a sentence an author could have ended but chose not to do so.
A signification of that decision to continue living.
The day serves as a call to action to reduce the stigma around mental health, promote open conversations, and encourage seeking help.
I suppose the mental image we should project is "you are not alone".

I never acquired the green thumb of both my grandmothers and my father in particular. It is amazing to realize the great masses of greenery they were able to cultivate with little to no apparent effort and I am left stupefied by my inherent lack of skill.
Dr Bill Robinson once told me to my face that I was of inferior genetics. Perhaps this is part of that manifestation.
Today is International Plant Appreciation Day.
It is observed each April 13 and is meant to be a vehicle to promote the beauty, diversity, and vital importance of plants. Particularly from a standpoint of providing oxygen, improving air quality, and supporting mental health.
International Plant Appreciation Day is NOT National Houseplant Appreciation Day, which occurs on January 10.

Today is a day to break out of daily routines, push boundaries, and try something unexpected or adventurous.
Known as National Walk on Your Wild Side Day it is one of those Thomas and Ruth Roy of Wellcat.com holidays held each April 12and encourages embracing uniqueness and overcoming the fear of the opinions of others.
At this stage of my game I am not entirely sure that I will ever participate. By this time in my life I feel my comfort zone is so very far and wide that unpredictable behavior has become predictable.
The crux of the day is live with a bit more excitement rather than just sticking to the ordinary.
"Walk on the wild side" refers to engaging in risky, adventurous, or unconventional behavior.
This may include the exploration of taboo subjects or lifestyles.
The notion was popularized by Lou Reed’s 1972 song, it specifically highlights the lives of 1970s New York subcultures, including transgender people, drag performers, and drug use.
As for me, the drugs and sexual perversion are out.
You go for what your personality requires.

I once fancied myself an alligator owner. Yes, I thought I was going to be a wrangler of the large reptiles and stick my thumb in their butt holes to piss them off if they tried to become unmanageable.
Luckily, my fantasy never evolved beyond South Park, Cartman's fool antics, and those things that might have been otherwise.
Today we have another National Pet Day.
It is observed on April 11 each year to honor the joy and companionship that pets bring to our lives and to promote pet adoption from shelters.
It encourages people to show extra love to their pets and raise awareness about the many animals in need of homes.
So get out there and rescue that alligator and take him home to be pampered the rest of his life.

Ah, the humble safety pin. I've been known to utilize them in my various attempts at being fashionable at work. They provide for fastening when none is otherwise available.
They are versatile tools primarily used to temporarily fasten fabrics, mend clothing, and repair gear.
They are essential in sewing, quilting, and emergency situations, serving as quick fixes for broken buttons, zipper pulls, or torn items.
Their sharp, durable design also allows for practical uses like removing splinters.
In 1849, Walter Hunt received the first U.S. patent for a safety pin.
There is even an international safety pin day which, of course corresponds to today.

- Bananas began being sold in London Markets in 1633

On this day in the year 1633, people gathered outside a shop window in London to stare at something few of them had ever seen.
They was clusters of strange, curved fruits recently arrived from Bermuda.
This variety was a banana called "plantain" and were nothing like the sweet, familiar Cavendish variety many of us eat today. They likely were intended to be cooked and not eaten fresh.
I have a lot of experience with Caribbean variety bananas. They range from the fingerling appearing bunches to the gigantic "cut and fry” varieties common to tropical dinner tables in the southeast United States.
Over the years I have cultivated a taste for the various ways bananas are prepared and indeed, as they say the Cavendish variety is going away due to some fungal problem we may be relegated to the plantains once again in the future.

We have yet another Draw a Bird Day (DABDay) for the encouragement of people to draw birds and place them on display.
Draw a Bird Day (April 8th) is an international informal event dedicated to creating simple bird art in the name of bringing a little joy.
It was inspired by one Dorie Cooper who was a young girl in 1943.
Anyone can participate by simply sketching, painting, or crafting any bird in any style, often sharing them to celebrate nature and creativity.
This is not a technical exercise in perfection. It is meant to be simple and fun.
Any manner of bird subject is appropriate.
Any media are likewise appropriate.
I have participated for a number of years now.
