National Leave the Office Early Day 2026

taking the day off early
Early in my career I was keen on getting off early. Getting paid and being off was that state of being I naturally pursued.

I'm happy to say well before the middle of my career I began to seek somewhere to go. Some place to be. I found myself wanting to be useful more so than being off.

Today is National Leave the Office Early Day. It is an unofficial holiday celebrated each June 2 under the auspices of productivity expert Laura Stack.

The day encourages professionals to manage their efficiency better, beat peak traffic, and take some well-deserved time off to prevent burnout.

Younger folks will find this far more appealing than older workaholics such as myself.

This is an unofficial observance so you are not automatically authorized home early. If you want to take part without getting into trouble with your boss ensure that the proper arrangements have been made aforehand.

Obtain permission. Make sure your manager know in advance that you plan to celebrate and offer to make up any missed hours.

Use it as an excuse to eliminate inefficient workflows so you can pack up on time without leaving tasks unfinished Plan a getaway and utilize the extra afternoon hours to run errands, hit happy hour, or enjoy outdoor activities so you can return the next day refreshed.

It's okay to leave the office early as long as it's approved by those who run the office.
