National Say Something Nice Day is each June First.
It is dedicated to counteracting negativity and promoting civility through genuine, uplifting compliments.
The day began in 2006 under the auspices of Mayor Keith Summey of North Charleston, South Carolina.
It began to recognize the communication efforts and book Say Something Nice: Be a Lifter at Work by one Dr Mitch Carnell.
The day was backed by groups like the South Baptist Convention and the Charleston-Atlantic Presbytery
To mark the day make someone's morning by noting something positive about them.
Gee, for a fat girl you sure don't sweat much.
Send a heartfelt email, text, or letter to a friend or coworker showing appreciation for their hard work.
Share kind words or compliments on your social media channels to start a chain reaction of niceness
Various studies on positive communication show that genuinely praising and thanking others helps reduce stress, anxiety, and depression while boosting the emotional wellness of both the giver and the receiver.
