Today we observe another World Goth Day . The day is celebrated annually each May 22. It is an international celebration of the gothic subculture, art, fashion, and music, created to let the scene honor its own culture and make its presence known to the rest of the world.
The day originates in the United Kingdom in 2009 secondary to a BBC Radio 6 series of musical subculture shows to the gothic genre. Instead of holding the celebration on Halloween those in charge purposely chose May to allow the genuine goth community to stand apart and celebrate their identity year-round.
So it is a day for concerts and club nights spinning goth, darkwave, post-punk, and industrial music.
There are typically clothes swaps, parades, and gatherings emphasizing dramatic, romantic, and historically inspired dark attire.
Finally the special events at gothic revival historical sites, poetry readings, and film screenings.
Marilyn Manson is an acquired taste of mine. I don't really think he is totally "goth" per se. He is just who I think of when the topic comes to mind ...
As it does from time to time given my avant garde interests and eclectic spin on life and fashion. I suppose I just like him and his music.
BTW ... his late father, Hugh Angus Warner, was a very good sport who posed with him in full regalia and makeup.
