National Happy Hour Day 2022
Gin and Tonic
Back in the day I went to bars. Beginning right about my hitch in the Navy I could be found at various watering holes in and about Charleston, South Carolina and points sometimes far beyond in the Mediterranean, North Atlantic Europe, Scandinavia, North Africa, Guantanamo Bay Cuba, and of course, Roosevelt Roads Puerto Rico.

My pursuit of altered consciousness followed me for a good while after the Navy and whereas I could not tolerate alcohol much at all when I went in you couldn't keep me away from it after I got out.

This is primarily a function of that company with which I found myself and various other secondary reasons which are insignificant to my present longstanding teetotaler state.

So one of my favorite past times was happy hour at the enlisted mens club at Orlando Naval Training Center. Mixed drinks were a dollar, two bucks for a double and I could be seen staggering back to the bachelor enlisted quarters to sleep it off early most evenings.

So today is National Happy Hour Day. Though I no longer participate, the memories persist to this day. If you pursue cocktails on November 12th from around five through seven pm on that day you're right in the middle of something I once loved to do often !

I was once a gin and tonic man, but that was then and this is now.

Area Code Day 2022
    SC Area Codes

Once upon a time area codes were seldom used when dialing a telephone. Nowadays they are included in each number dialed. As the people have proliferated so have the phone numbers in use.

The state of South Carolina recently added a new area code to accommodate the exhaustion of numbers in the 803 area. My cell phone is in that new area code which is 839. When I was first assigned that area code I thought someone had made an error.

I recall when pay phones were everywhere. I haven't seen a pay phone in a very long time now. I attribute this to the universal use of cell phones. People seem to love their smartphones upon which they may engage trivial matters such as social media and the playing of games ...

As for me, I use a flip phone. I do not surf the net on my cell phone though it has that capability. I don't really like to use a phone for anything besides voice communications though I will admit to intermittent wifi hotspot tethering in the past.

Today is Area Code Day. It is celebrated on November 10.

Area codes provide enumeration for the many new phone circuits in use in our world today.

Despite the various proclivities of my fellow humans from a standpoint of personal preference, I would just as soon stick to my local network to engage the internet. It provides amenities in the form of better firewall, faster speeds, and generally is more useful to me personally. I don't know, something about a gigabit of bandwidth, several workstations, and server cluster at my disposal simply floats my boat.

However, whatever is your whim on the technical front is what you should engage. Just because I may like or dislike something you need to decide these matters in the context of your existence and either go for them or not.

Whatever your choice happy Area Code Day to you.

Geriatric Toothfairy Day 2022
geriatric tooth fairy
I used to get regular dental checkups.

Then I went to Airport Family Dentistry at 3901 Edmund Hwy # C, West Columbia, SC 29170 and the sniveling ignorant arrogant trollup they placed before me at the counter offended me so badly I doubt I'll ever see a dentist again unless it's for an extraction.

Today is Geriatric Toothfairy Day.

It happens each November 9 in the United States.

The day supposedly brings awareness to the importance of oral health for the elderly in an effort to promote quality of life.

So if you're getting on like I am I hope your oral hygiene is acceptable and that your dentist hasn't allowed his staff to piss you off as badly as mine did me.

You may not be as competent to push your luck as I am.

I understand the physiologic mechanisms of tooth decay and dare say can hold my own without putting up with some unskilled rude bitch getting in my face at the counter of some dental office.

Luckily I have been a hygiene freak since I turned about 40 years old and though I care about oral wellbeing I prefer not having to go to some dental office and plant my foot up everybody's rude ass.

Happy Geriatric Toothfairy Day if you find yourself a senior citizen and can tolerate the insensitive help dentists sometimes hire.

I decline to EVER suffer again the outrageous flippance of some dullard dental employee.

Election Day 2022
I'm So Gonna Vote

November 8, 2022 brings us Election Day and the opportunity to roust the criminals of the democratic party from office.

I hope we all turn out in vast numbers and quash their stranglehold on the country in no uncertain terms ...

Regardless of their underhanded criminal attempts to harvest votes among other illegal activities.

God bless America and damn the crook ass democrats.

Reject the woke, sexual deviant, and cancel culture now running rampant in The Republic.

Bring back respect for the constitution, sensibility, and law and order to our land.

piss on the democrats

Job Action Day 2022
    cherry sucker
I went out to lunch with my girl last week and we had another episode elucidating the nature of job hunting for the retired. She had mentioned a lot of things I could be doing ...

Like macrame, pottery, and such and I just didn't seem too interested I suppose.

I told her that I didn't see me as a fast food idiot like those at Chick-Fil-A or worse yet ... McDonalds PUH—Leeze.

So anyway I had a look through the online want ads and alas, their search engines are just as crappy as google and bing from a standpoint of returning items related to specified search terms.

In frustration I abruptly halted the search as I decided I have grown entirely too picky in my old age to accept "just anything".

Far be it from me to wax all uppity but it appears that the IQs of everyone involved in hiring have dropped precipitously with one group not able to recognize qualifications and the other unable to produce any.

Needless to say I remain satisfied to sit on my butt and draw a check while doing nothing under these pitiful circumstance.

Beats being some greeter at gd walmart or worse.

There is a happening called Job Action Day under the auspices of some company called LiveCareer and they are online with their braggadocio dripping with claims of satisfactory hiring practices starting with a "resume builder".

It appears that I shall remain retired as the representative companies that hire their customers appear just as unsatisfactory as everyone else.

Must be the plight of the retiree to be forever dissatisfied. However, inasmuch as desperation no longer remains in the mix I simply decline to be that sucker the companies seek.

Daylight Savings Time Ends 2022
choose your bomb
Daylight Savings Time was an adjustment made to the clocks in an effort to achieve longer evening daylight in summer by setting the clocks forward an hour ahead of the standard time.

DST originated in the US with the Standard Time Act of 1918 which was a wartime measure for seven months during World War I in the interest of adding more daylight hours to conserve energy resources.

Last March 16 the U.S. Senate passed the Sunshine Protection Act (S.623). This legislation will make daylight saving time permanent beginning in 2023. Supporters claim it would lead to greater economic activity during those hours nearing the close of a day.

Daylight Savings Time reception has been somewhat waning over the years — with some jurisdictions declining to implement it at all.

It would seem that advanced clocks for the efficience of manufacturing and commerce are not everyone's forte.

Perhaps it's because the democrats seek to rid us of all manufacturing jobs as a part of their plain to ruin the entirety of The Republic.

Personally I can take it or leave it. I find the advent of darkness at the end of daylight savings time striking as I observe it each year.

Daylight Savings Time ends at 2:00 am on November 6th. That's tonight boys and girls.

National Bison Day 2022
    American Bison
When I was a kid my daddy took our family to Yellowstone.

There was the trip from Blackfoot, Idaho through the Grand Teton range traveling there and back with the spectacular cloud formations we both went through and viewed from far above. Yellowstone was a natural wonderland with the various volcanic formations actively spewing water and the many mineral spring basins filled with water so hot you could boil eggs ...

The bears, the birds, and the bison were there in the roads right along with us. I saw many things I might not ever see again and I took it all in with the wonder of a child's eyes.

When you see your first herd of bison you gain an understanding for the hugeness of these beasts and how fierce they appear. It is a wonder how they were hunted during the old days in the West, much less how they were abusively taken then poorly utilized by the selfish travelers of the time. I was impressed with these massive animals that I remember them to this day.

I find the tourists who go so far as to provoke them into attacking to be somewhat ignorant of just who lives there and who is just visiting. I know that if you maintain your distance and don't approach or alarm them they are likely to cohabitate that space and tolerate your presence quite nicely.

Today is National Bison Day and November fifth is a day we set aside to reflect on the impact bison have made on our environment and culture as that icon we see on coins, state flags, and other thing to remind us of that which we are — and were.

Though I toy with the idea of returning to the Teton Range and Yellowstone I have the stark realization that this may never happen. I am fortunate to have already experienced much of that wildlife which dwell there, like the bison.

It is fortuitous that my daddy had the foresight to realize just how important that experience would end up being for me personally.

Use your Common Sense Day 2022
Screaming Female Libtard
I wasn't always this way, but of late I pride myself at attempting good sense and sound judgment in practical matters. Anymore I strive to maintain the ability to think and behave in a reasonable way and to make good decisions. To exercise good judgment, common sense, and as much wisdom as I can muster.

This is all the result of the stupid woke movement, cancel culture, and the libard spin which has brought even more failure on our education system, has degraded the security of our borders, has cast shame on us as a nation of laws when we seek to defund law enforcement and other stupidity the democrats have propagated as that failure which is them en toto.

People exhibit a distinct lack of raising when they show off their lack of common sense by trying to package all their "bad" as "good" when it is not good. It is a total detriment to everything we are. Today is Use Your Common Sense Day. It is held each November 4 and is designed to promote “the applied knowledge of simple, sensible things”.

The democrats are about to reap what they sow in the upcoming elections. Naturally they will wish to affix blame anywhere but where it belongs on their failed policies and pervasive no character criminal element. So as they slowly sink into their over taxed feces caked no law no order west ...

In the immortal words of John Donne "For whom the bell tolls, It tolls for thee".

For Whom the Bell Tolls

No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thine own
Or of thine friend's were.
Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.

World Jellyfish Day 2022
    jellyfish
I used to have a lot of experience with various jellyfish. I was immersed in the gulf stream for extended periods of time while living in the Florida Keys during my youth and they were there to be encountered whether you were ready or not.

I recall encountering the Portuguese man o' war and the much more numerous bottom dwellers of the various canals — and I did indeed suffer stings every now and then.

It gave me respect where there may have been insufficient amounts previously.

Jellyfish congregate in groups which are called "blooms" or "swarms" and they are not really fish at all. No bones. No brain. Their invertebrate nature and other worldly appearance make for interesting encounters even now.

Jellyfish are plankton eaters. Some species of fish, sharks, turtles, and even people are known to dine on them. I have encountered Asian people who are skilled in maintaining them in large spectacular aquaria.

All in all the jellyfish is an interesting enigma in the marine life of the world and I try to gain knowledge of them even now.

Today is World Jellyfish Day. It happens on November 3rd and I'm not exactly sure about the observance other than scientific curiosa. I think it's important to know about things as a human being even if you actively choose not to exploit them.

Regardless of your personal level of interest in these creatures Happy World Jellyfish Day to you !

All Souls Day 2022
Crucifix with Corpus

I've lost so many friends and relatives over the years.

It is sometimes overwhelming to think of just how alone I actually am at this point in my existence.

I try to remember my relatives who have passed this earthly existence.

Some of them were more important and dear to me than others.

I even have hard feelings towards some of those who have departed.

I try to set these aside on certain days of the year such as this one.

This second religious aspect immediately following Halloween is November 2nd where we have All Souls Day aka Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed aka the Day of the Dead.

It is a time for people to honor all those that have departed.

It is a day to celebrate, respect, and honor the dead.

So I will utilize the day to attempt to pay my respects to those who have gone on before ...

Even if we didn't part in the best of circumstances.

National Authors Day 2022
    Dr Isaac Asimov
When I was a kid I was a big fan of the literature by Isaak Yudovich Ozimov aka Dr Issac Asimov (1920-1992). I felt that his insights into the scientific world gave a depth to his science fiction which imparted relevancy — and he was that intersection of both science fiction and science fact that naturally appealed to my early diffuse interests.

Dr Asimov fell victim to a serious heart attack. In December 1983 he underwent a triple bypass surgery at NYU Medical Center, during which he contracted HIV from a blood transfusion.

His HIV status was kept secret because he and his family feared the anti AIDS prejudice which might be directed at both him and his family members.

He died in Manhattan on April 6, 1992, and was cremated with a reported cause of death as heart and kidney failure.

What a tragic ending for one of the greatest minds the world has ever produced.

He remained the favorite author of this wayward manchild thoughout the greater proportion of my lifetime.

Today is National Author’s Day. It is a day to spend with those works by your favorite author. I will likely spend the day reading either The Positronic Man, or I, Robot, or perhaps even Fantastic Voyage for the umpteenth time.

However you choose to spend the day I hope you'll consider the sadness I have over the loss of my favorite author so many years ago.

All Saints Day 2022
All Saints Day Candle

I've lost so many relatives over the years. It is sometimes overwhelming to think of how alone I actually am these days.

I try to remember those who have passed this earthly existence. Not all of them are saints, but some of them are in my limited mortal mind.

Today is All Saints Day aka All Hallows' Day aka the Feast of All Saints aka the Feast of All Hallows aka the Solemnity of All Saints aka Hallowmas.

The day is a Christian solemnity or feast day of the highest rank and is celebrated in honour of all the saints of the church, whether they are known or unknown.

The day is meant for attending Church services and involves the visitation of cemeteries and praying for the dead.

Hallelujah !
