St Patricks Day 2023

    four leaf clover
Well we have yet another Saint Patrick's Day. There will be local celebrations and the consuming of green beer.

The day is about Saint Patrick and Christianity in Ireland and it has evolved into a general celebration of Irish heritage as well.

I recall observing St Patrick's Day when I was a kid. My participation has certainly diminished somewhat over the years.

I have several friends who are Irish and they remain enthusiastic participants in the local celebration.

I wish I could scrape up a fraction of all that enthusiasm and apply it to my life as well.

St Patrick's Day has become an international celebration and in America in particular it may not be an "official" holiday but just try passing that off to the local celebrants.

Green is a color of note in the festivities. In fact, you're supposed to wear green on the day or risk getting pinched.

The Irish refer to two religious groups by color, the Catholics who are called "green" and the Protestants who are called "orange".

The colors orange and green have deep roots in both Irish culture and St Patrick's Day in particular.

It is said that green makes you invisible to leprechauns who like to pinch anyone and everyone they encounter.

The folklore surrounding St Patrick's Day is the wholesome stuff of family, friends, and spirituality — and it's a great time if you're the celebratory type.

Me, I'll probably just hang out and write another blog entry.
