Understanding the medium

Spam ... The other pink meat
Spammers who purvey their unsolicited business email don't seem to understand the mechanism of public domain email access, server configuration, nor even the slightest set of netizen manners.

First of all, if you lack the dns resources to access general purpose email you may find yourself not getting in. One of those common email server settings is reject in the absence of an MX record. MX Records use per machine IP addresses.

Therefore, if you have an unofficial configuration your MX record at best will not include your bandito server unless you get in there and configure your own dns records.

Next, blacklists, whitelists, and graylists exist for problem children who may gain access otherwise.

I have no need for any of these due to the efficiency of the MX record requirement and my port lockdown policies — but it's just another way to tune out most of your spam you ignorant sluts continually on your back with the meter running.

Besides, I have implemented so many custom hacker and spammer traps that it's fairly difficult to get by me ... and I dare say few do. Plus, since it's become both a hobby and cottage industry I try new things daily. The fact that I am a religious log reader is neither here nor there. One false move and you're firewalled no questions asked.

Time was I would issue complaints to the abuse email drop for the network upon which a violator operated. Seeing how Amazon was the only one really attuned to dealing with these abuse complaints I figured it was a losing battle so now I just drop your packets like hot potatoes. No log copies. No emails. You're just gone.

In the presence of adequate server configuration you can be more or less restrictive as suits you.

I frequently punch holes in my firewall for those who request it and whose traffic I deem worthy.
