Christmas Reflections
 I wanted Cameron for Christmas

This year we all were able to get together at Moms ... a few of us were missing; but a few of us usually missing made it. She got to see more people than I did.

Santa was really good to me. I got a lot of stuff I didn't really deserve.

Of course, I didn't get my own Terminator (the Cameron model) like I wanted — but perhaps next year.

It was a time to take note of those we lost and those we might have lost had serendipitous providence not interceded.

Unfortunately, the time was a bit problematic for my sister and the stress was evident at a time when she should not have had a care in the world.

Regardless, we should attempt to maintain that attitude of grateful appreciation for all that we have over the ensuing time until Christmas rolls around next year.

So as 2017 rapidly approaches the season remains in my heart. It wasn't as happy as last year but dealing with "what is" will always be an issue in life.

George Michael Passes on Christmas Day
     George Michael
Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou
aka George Michael
June 25, 1963 - December 25, 2016
singer, songwriter, record producer
multiple areas of post disco pop music

There are many performers I have taken with a grain of salt over the years. George Michael was one of them.

It seems that the "Wham" years were marginal with their teeny bopper irrelevance and mainstream bubble gum appeal.

My personal interest with George Michael as a performance artist typically involved his collaborations with others such as Deon Estus where I felt that the innovation flowed and his work was less superficially commercial and more attuned to those older persons such as myself.

Regardless, he held his music and his art in those fashions he saw fit and I can't knock a man for being who he is. His life is marked by a creative slant that few others can match with his lyrics and guitar and all the emotional strings he struck in others as the result of his music.

Like so many I am surprised to survive him. When I go thinking that piles of fundage availability equate to the ability to overcome the pitfalls of living I remain hopelessly naive in my orientation to what I would do with money viz a viz what others do who have it.

Rest in peace.

The Second Day of Christmas (Twelvetide)
Stoning of Saint Stephen, altarpiece of San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice, by Jacopo & Domenico Tintoretto
We are now in the Twelve Days of Christmas, also known as Twelvetide. This is a Christian celebratory season marking the nativity.

The First Day of Christmas was yesterday, Christmas Day. The remaining successive days in Twelvetide continue through January 1.

Today is also St Stephen's Day aka the Feast of Saint Stephen. This day commemorates Stephen, the first Christian martyr who was stoned to death in Jerusalem, then part of the Roman Empire in Judea for alleged blasphemy of Mosaic law by the Sanhedrin who rejected Christ and his followers.

It is said that the Pharisee Saul of Tarsus (prior to becoming St Paul the Apostle) held the cloaks of those who put Stephen to death for his pious and indomitable spiritual beliefs. He related this in the Acts of the Apostles in the New Testament of the Holy Bible.

The historical information includes his having the countenance of an angel as he passed from the earthly dimension to the presence of the Almighty.

The circumstances of his death included the presence of the Throne of God with Christ at His right hand. It would seem that Christianity's protomartyr was well received into the bosom of the objects of his worship while alive.

The story of the unearthing of his relics centuries later was equally astounding as related by those adherents to Christ who found them. Saint Stephen was no ordinary Christian in the eyes of the one true God.

Acts of the Apostles

6: 5  And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:
6: 8  And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
6: 9  Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.
7:59  And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
8: 2  And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.
11:19  Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only.
22:20  And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.

Merry Christmas !
As a child, my mama and daddy always saw to it that Christmas was the most wonderful time of the year. Every year — for years on end — I always got whatever was my heart's desire for Christmas.

Later, after my daddy passed my mom gave me the most wonderful stepfather imaginable. He pretty much turned Christmas into a 365 day a year event for me and advised me regarding life and career and I have been truly blessed.

Though I now have only memories of my daddy and stepfather they both remain in my heart as parts of me which I'll never let go.

I hope everyone has the opportunity to know that unconditional love available only from those special people who love you enough to take you as their own ... your folks.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Merry Christmas !

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on, our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yuletide gay
From now on, our troubles will be miles away

Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more

Through the years we all will be together
If the fates allow
So hang a shining star upon the highest bough
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now

Christmas Eve
Another Christmas Eve is upon me. This year I'm left quite sad over the loss of my stepfather, who will be gone for a year next month. Though I'm trying to get through it all with as festive an attitude as possible I fear this simply is not to be for 2016.

I remain grateful for those blessings I have received and I understand the nature of the circle of life and how we all eventually pass — but somehow it's little comfort at a time meant for good cheer when all I can do is abide.

Regardless, I do hope that you and yours celebrate the merriest Christmas this holiday season. I'll just be a litte preoccupied this year. It happens.

Christmas Eve
The Christmas Song

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos

Everybody knows a turkey and some
Mistletoe help to make the season bright
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight

They know that Santa’s on his way
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies
On his sleigh
And every mother's
Child is gonna spy to see if
Reindeer really know how to fly

And so, I'm offering this
Simple phrase to kids from
One to ninety-two
Although it's been said many times
Many ways
Merry Christmas to you

Fred II
Fred II Roomba 650

I'd like to introduce Fred II. This Fred is a gift from my mom and replaces the old one, which I used to death.

It is a Roomba 660, the model number having been derived from the bottom chassis ... But I note that the 660s in most of the illustrations show an olive body instead of the black one typical of the 650 model.

At any rate, the fundamental difference between the 650 and 660 models is the accessories with which each model comes, the 660 having more.

I have done exhaustive testing and this model navigates the carpet and hard floors effortlessly without the periodic "jump" of my old 500 series model which this replaces.

It's truly a blessing to an old white guy who isn't at home cleaning house. I kick it off and in 45 minutes it does a much better job than the 550 did in 3 hours.

Regardless, Fred I was a valued member of the household even if I did yell at him from time to time. Fred II has the same stature and esteem here at the crib.

Thanks Mom !

Happy Festivus
Festivus Pole
In all of my fantasies I was never one to construct any holidays of my own.

Somehow the thought of drifting off into my own celebration was somewhat less imaginitive than those participations in the real thing as a construct of childhood whims and desires I regularly engaged.

So there once was this Seinfeld script writer named Dan O'Keefe whose family had a secular christmastide tradition called Festivus.

This parody became ensconced as a secular holiday each December 23 as the result of it being the underlying theme of a Seinfeld episode from 1997 called "The Strike".

Festivus has a set of customs and observances which include things like a Festivus Pole and dinner, the airing of grievances, as well as feats of strength and even miracles.

The underlying value of Festivus appears to be that release it provides from the pressures and commercialism which Christmas has become in the world.

Happy Festivus for the Rest of Us !

The Room Mate Conundrum
I have been approached several times by others "looking for a roommate". Bear in mind that his has transpired in the absence of any advert seeking company. My answer to each and every one of these has pretty much been the same: no thanks.

It would seem that everyone doesn't agree that living alone is a groove. Were I so inclined to cohabitate it most certainly would not be with another of the male persuasion and indeed I would never be in search of an 'organ donor' or any situation with 'benefits'.

Some of the females discussing such arrangements typically have three or four offspring by three or four different men and my trepidations regarding the portends surround both the possiblities for baby mama drama and the intellectual functionality of the proposed participants.

Anyway, suffice it to say in the absence of any earth shattering epiphany of the meaningful relationship with a lady kind there will be no cohabitation at my place because I need all the available room for my stuff.

Winter has Arrived
Winter Night
.
Today at 05:44 am EST the Winter solstice went down without a hitch bringing with it the season of Winter in all it's chilly glory.

Though I certainly find myself lacking in the spiritual transcendence of a "Groundhog Day" epiphany where the coarse becomes the epitome of refinement, I can say that the seasons bring with them a certain softening of those edges which constitute that edgy thing called me.

For that reason alone I try to relish the changing of the seasons as a mode of self modification and thereby improvement resulting in the next iteration of whom I grow into at each successive stage of the game.

An Old Man’s Winter Night

All out of doors looked darkly in at him
Through the thin frost, almost in separate stars,
That gathers on the pane in empty rooms.
What kept his eyes from giving back the gaze
Was the lamp tilted near them in his hand.
What kept him from remembering what it was
That brought him to that creaking room was age.
He stood with barrels round him—at a loss.
And having scared the cellar under him
In clomping there, he scared it once again
In clomping off;—and scared the outer night,
Which has its sounds, familiar, like the roar
Of trees and crack of branches, common things,
But nothing so like beating on a box.
A light he was to no one but himself
Where now he sat, concerned with he knew what,
A quiet light, and then not even that.
He consigned to the moon, such as she was,
So late-arising, to the broken moon
As better than the sun in any case
For such a charge, his snow upon the roof,
His icicles along the wall to keep;
And slept. The log that shifted with a jolt
Once in the stove, disturbed him and he shifted,
And eased his heavy breathing, but still slept.
One aged man—one man—can’t fill a house,
A farm, a countryside, or if he can,
It’s thus he does it of a winter night.

High School Sports Predominate Local News
    yellow journalism local news outlets

When I was in the Navy stationed at Charleston, SC we would always encounter high school sports on the evening news. Whereas most of the people not from SC were used to pro sports in the news, this high school sports thingie seemed to be all we have to talk about ... and the situation appears to have remained the same all these years.

When high school sports is the predominate feature of the local news it should tell you something. It means that your local media has nothing to say. Oh sure; all the parents of high school students being featured in the news are likely just fine with it all.

As I continue to be immersed in this drivel I am left wanting a real local news source and not this meaningless and slanted crap I'm getting.

As is the mainstream national news the local news has no interest in objectivity or significance ... just special interest fluff pieces and the punctate anal retentive slant of yellow journalism. You'd think they were all subsidiaries of the state newspaper.

I never wanted a single piece of opinion from a news source and that seems to be all we get with our meaningless reporting efforts. The saddest part of all of this is the superficial nature of the consumer to tolerate these efforts at unNews.

Fake news isn't the only thing detrimental to the state of world affairs. An absence of complete objective reporting of significant events is right on up there with it.

How about some cheese with that whine ...
Mr Clinton whining about the loss of Hillary
The Electoral College, that process established in the Constitution as a compromise between a congressional and popular vote of qualified citizens, has confirmed Donald J. Trump as the nation's 45th president.

This was not without misbhavior of some of the Electoral College membership who failed to cast their votes for that candidate their consituents mandated as the voter's choice.

And still the bellyaching by the would be first gentleman whining that Mr Trump knows how to get angry white men to vote for him.

Well, as one of those angry white men Mr Clinton should close his questionable character piehole for therein lay the problem with the entirety of the Clinton campaign.

It wasn't the FBI or Wikileaks, but ENTIRELY too many questionable actions and seedy business dealings that too many of us view as criminal behavior.

This is why Hillary lost. Shut up, Mr Clinton.

I'm not saying that more suitable candidates weren't out there. I'm just saying that they didn't enter into candidacy and Mr Trump has Mrs Clinton and that socialist entitlement pork barrel idiot Mr Sanders beat by a long shot.

Actress, Socialite

One of those icons who has always been known to me is Zsa Zsa Gabor. She had appeared as an actress but typically the role she played was herself in some drama playing out on the world stage.

Nonetheless I will miss that character calling everyone Dhalink and I particularly enjoyed it when she got testy and went off on various others over the ensuing years ... like the time she slapped a Beverly Hills cop in the very late 1980s.

In her defense, she wasn't exactly a power hitter or anything.

Her career has lasted for the entirety of my lifetime up to this point — and she passed away at her Bel Air home yesterday after a lengthy decline in her health.

She was truly unique in my life time and I for one will miss her off screen antics most of all. Rest in peace, Dhalink.

error Will Robinson
oops
Looking over a few of my metadata files I note a few syntactical errors in the blog sitemap and all of the robots.txt files. These have been corrected but I remain somewhat mortified to think that I could be so lacking in attention to detail. Oh well, cut and paste got me again and I will attempt to be more careful in the future.

Too bad I'm disallowing google due to their inability to get geolocation correct. As long as they are the only search engine getting it wrong they will remain on the disallowed side of robots.txt for the duration. Sometimes hinting and outright insults simply don't work at all. It will be my pleasure to remove the disallow if and when they can ever get their act together.

It's kind of like Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina. They pretend to be "all that" until you see their utterly ridiculous data sets. They're too stupid to be embarrassed by the mess they produce and supply to customers.

Duh !

Peace and Goodwill somehow elude me
Hulk Smile

Well the Syrians are being murdered by their President, the Russians, and the Iranians with wild abandon because like the Nazis no one will tell them NO.

We have a kid who is young, immature, and misguided found guilty and awaiting his life or death sentence for murdering a number of Bible study congregants.

We have a main stream media more concerned with placing a spin and influencing the reader rather than objective reporting. That yellow journalism which was once a sparse node in reality has become an endless loop.

There are a number of phony media outlets manufacturing "fake news" which is receiving inadequate fact checking by those who would publicize it.

We have the democrats and progressives largely financed by a foreign ultra left wing enemy of the state steadily involved in misrepresentation, lies, subterfuge and then subsequent anger at being caught by the mechanisms at our disposal.

We have a generation of text message mentality individuals who can neither spell nor pronounce words correctly — much less comprehend actual word meanings and logical relationships between them ... and an Oxford English Dictionary incorporating faddish overused repetitive fringe cliches into what they view as canonical language arts. OED and it's penchant for derivative pop culture drivel conversion to bad english would be better relegated to the dust bin content into which it's evolving.

That gullibility which is far too many of us who lack both critical thinking and the impetus to go beyond what is presented to what supports that which is presented is sometimes overwhelming.

I'm glad that the generation which follows the millenials appears to be breaking this trend.

I could use a little more informed, a lot more competence, understanding, comprehension, clarity, objectivity, lucidity, and awareness as well as quite a bit less stupidity in my surroundings anymore thank you very much.
