Happy Festivus

Festivus Pole
In all of my fantasies I was never one to construct any holidays of my own.

Somehow the thought of drifting off into my own celebration was somewhat less imaginitive than those participations in the real thing as a construct of childhood whims and desires I regularly engaged.

So there once was this Seinfeld script writer named Dan O'Keefe whose family had a secular christmastide tradition called Festivus.

This parody became ensconced as a secular holiday each December 23 as the result of it being the underlying theme of a Seinfeld episode from 1997 called "The Strike".

Festivus has a set of customs and observances which include things like a Festivus Pole and dinner, the airing of grievances, as well as feats of strength and even miracles.

The underlying value of Festivus appears to be that release it provides from the pressures and commercialism which Christmas has become in the world.

Happy Festivus for the Rest of Us !
