World Mosquito Day 2020
    Sir Ronald Ross
I have had episodes of mosquito attacks where the bites were unbearable and the insects were relentless.

I remember the local governments enacting fogging programs in the neighborhoods with trucks carrying high efficiency foggers that rode through the streets to the delight of me and the other urchins.

I really never gave the possibility of toxicity or consequences a single thought.

There were areas where the birds Purple Martins and various bats would fly though the air devouring these blood suckers with wild abandon and indeed, the problem grew less the older I became ...

Most likely due to that propensity I developed for being indoors writing code and pursuing a general couch potato lifestyle.

Throughout the years I learned of the various vectors that included the mosquito and read of disease processes and their intermediaries as a facet of my pursuit of all things medical.

Unfortunately, when I abandoned the pursuit of medical knowledge becoming more a student of various curiosa I stopped a lot of that technical reading which could have added to who I am presently.

Today we have another World Mosquito Day held under the auspices of The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

It is a yearly thing held each August 20 to commemorate one Sir Ronald Ross the British physician who discovered that female mosquitoes transmit malaria between humans.

That vector has been known since 1897 and it was Sir Ronald Ross himself who suggested that the day become known as as World Mosquito Day.

The day has been observed and enjoyed participation since around the 1930s.

National Aviation Day 2020
National Aviation Day Poster
I used to be purely a Navy man. Having been the son of a Master Chief and served myself it was a natural connection that I made over time until ...

I met Johnny H Pruett, who became my step father upon his marriage to my mother. They had a wonderful life together up until his passing and from that time I have felt an affinity for the Air Force, which was that service he entered having attained the rank of Master Sergeant.

So I became a child of two services because they were important to both father figures in my life. Their extreme concern for me became that impetus for becoming that military offspring I presently am. I was not always so military centric; but love changes all things.

Today we mark another National Aviation Day. This United States national observation celebrates the development of aviation.

Established in 1939 by Franklin Delano Roosevelt by presidential proclamation designating the anniversary of Orville Wright's birthday to be National Aviation Day.

He was born in 1871 and was living at the issue of the proclamation.

All federal buildings and installations are directed to fly the US flag. Citizens are encouraged to observe the day with activities promoting interest in aviation.

Virginia Dare
Virginia Dare by Maria Louisa Lander 1859
When I was a kid attending the second grade at Aragona Elementary School in Virginia Beach, Virginia our teacher, Miss Key instructed us regarding Virginia Dare.

She was the first English child born in what was then the "New" World.

While her birthdate was recorded as August 18, 1587 in the Roanoke Colony which is now known as North Carolina — her date of death remains unknown to this day.

It is said that she and the other colonists at Roanoake Island disappeared while the her grandfather, John White, who was the governor of the colony returned to England for fresh supplies in 1587 only to return 3 years later and find all colonists gone.

Virginia Dare is a key figure in American mythology and that folklore associated with the early colonization of the United States and it means different things to various individuals.

She has been immortalized in books and other literature, songs, television programming and film. Her name is associated with various products for sale on the retail market as a gimmick.

She has also been the namesake of various places in North Carolina and elsewhere in the South.

Dragon City is Closing
Dragon City West Columbia SC
Dragon City Chinese Restaurant at 2410 Augusta Rd in West Columbia is closing due to a lack of business.

Whereas they once did a booming lunch and early supper now with the advent of this coronavirus 'pandemic' the restrictions and the fear mongering by the idiot local, state, and federal governments dummies has killed the local area business by and large.

I for one use to frequent the place for a spot of early lunch or when the egg drop soup called to me in my home.

It's a sad thing for me that leaves me wondering if everyone has gone crazy in the presence of only one of many pandemics we've suffered over the years.

You cannot hide from life.

We have failed to get back to the business of living because of the cowardice and/or pervasive stupidity of those in charge.

This is what you get when you don't take care of business adequately.

We're not taking care of business and it's mostly due to the democrats and their desire to have everyone controlled and paid by them in conjunction with the libtard leftist offspring who grew up thinking the world owed them something.

Boo !

National Airborne Day 2020
    Airborne Paratroopers
One thing I have never pursued is jumping from an aircraft with a parchute.

The reasons for this include my inherent fear of heights (more so falling from them) and the tragedy I witnessed in Lugoff, South Carolina in the early 1970s where a parachute failed to open and the young lady victim bounced 12 feet into the air.

Today is National Airborne Day.

It is an official observance declared by Congress in the United States honoring our airborne units of the Armed Forces.

It was created in 2002 by then President George W Bush.

Airborne operations such as military parachuting and gliding perform necessary capabilities such as the insertion of personnel and/or supplies as the means of delivering personnel, equipment, or supplies.

Airborne forces typically lack supplies for prolonged combat and therefore are the lead in to larger force influx in armed conflicts.

It is said that "vertical envelopment" can plae large scale forces which appear from nowhere in the middle of actions behind enemy lines.

Like all branches of the military the Airborne troops deserve our gratitude and admiration for engaging the enemy on the battlefield by dropping from the air.

It's truly an effective force their efforts exert upon our enemies in defense of the Republic.

John Cameron Swayze on the televisions of my childhood
John Cameron Swayze
When I was a kid there was a personality named John Cameron Swayze all over my early childhood television experience.

He was a news commentator and appeared on the various game shows of the time both predating me and well into my adulthood.

He would do commercial spots hawking various products such as the Timex watch which has indelibly became engrained in my memory due to the pervasive airing of these adverts and the popularity of that particular product.

Product spokesmanship was likely his main claim to fame overall.

Newsreel voiceovers and other technology which predate those modern mass communication efforts were a hallmark by which he became known.

Ironically, he became supplanted by Chet Huntley and David Brinkly in their nightly news program — which was merely a sign of the times.

He did various cameo appearances as an actor in the cinematic entertainment endeavors of that era.

He passed in Sarasota, Florida, on August 15, 1995 at the ripe old age of 89 and was survived by his widow, children, grandchildren, and great granchildren.

There are those who have led significantly less purposeful and satisfying existences upon the earth.

FDR signs the Social Security Act in 1935
So this year I was required by law to register for medicare or face penalties imposed by the social security administration for failure to comply.

Though I was none too happy about it at the time, I must say that the process wasn't all that bad and my final interview by telephone to the office in Chicago went without a hitch as I answered each and every question about my work history in turn to the satisfaction of the nice lady doing the interview.

    My 1972 Social Security Card
On this day in 1935 the Social Security Act was signed by President Franklin D Roosevelt which resulted in an ersatz government pension system for the retired.

Little did they know that the population would swell under the influences of modern medical care and that invasion by foreign nationals seeking just such entitlement to the point that the system is now borderline insolvent and relies on resuscitation in the form of government infusions of fundage as though the Republic were a fountain of cash for the invaders as well as the long lived citizenry.

WHILE I am certainly unopposed to these benefits I feel I "may" have somewhat of a stipend based on the shoring up of the system by various Federal administrations.

It's just a shame that I hate my job so much that I can't stand the thought of staying there a moment longer than ABSOLUTELY necessary whereas I used to love my job dearly.

These are the consequences of placing people in charge who don't have a clue.

International Lefthanders Day 2020
Left Hand X-Ray
I once worked for a radiologist who was left handed. His handwriting was pretty wild but he obviously was a great intellect and we spent moments from time to time going over a few x-rays and he would always have a joke or something else amusing to say.

One day I asked him if it was true that left handed people were naturally more intelligent than right handed people having read a few abstracts on the subject and to that effect in various journals of the day.

Naturally, I anticipated his affirmative response and it arrived immediately thereafter to our mutual amusement and chuckles.

Yes, I have missed good old Dr Davis over the years and the last I heard he was in Florence or somewhere in the PeeDee doing his radiologist thing while I faded out of the field early on in my never ending pursuit of gainful employment after the Navy.

Today is International Left Handers Day. It is an international observance each 3th of August marking the uniqueness and differences of the left handers. The first left handers day was in 1976 instigated by one Dean R Campbell who founded Lefthanders International, Inc.

So the day touts advantages and disadvantages of being a southpaw ... and I never met a lefty I didn't like.

We can't all be right handed.

World Elephant Day 2020
    elephant
I've acquired a soft spot in my heart for elephants.

This is primarily the result of various exposes, news reports, and documentaries of poachers and the massive needless killing of these intelligent animals for ivory which their bodies manufacture.

They have their own matriarchal society enhanced with defined family structures where males and females exist separately.

There is a matriarch cow who leads a herd of females. Each herd is made up of mothers, daughters, sisters and aunts.

Bull elephants exist as either loners or small bands of males.

I have not ever had the opportunity to interact with an elephant up close.

World Elephant Day is an an international observance each August 12 held in the name of preserving and protecting pachyderms all over.

It is the 2011 by brainchild of Canadian filmmakers Patricia Sims and Michael Clark of Canazwest Pictures.

Joining them was Sivaporn Dardarananda, Secretary-General of the Elephant Reintroduction Foundation in Thailand.

It is held under the auspices of Patricia Sims and the Elephant Reintroduction Foundation who continues to lead and direct World Elephant Day. The observance is presently supported by over 65 wildlife organizations along with many individuals in various jurisdiction internationally.

Robin Williams passed 6 years ago
Robin Williams
Robin McLaurin Williams
July 21, 1951 – August 11, 2014

Robin Williams was an American actor and comedian.

He is regarded by many as one of the best comedians of all time

He was known for his improvisation skills and voice actor memorable for innumerable voices of his creation.

Robin Williams began performing stand-up comedy in San Francisco and Los Angeles during the mid-1970s.

He rose to fame for playing the alien Mork in the sitcom Mork & Mindy from 1978 through 1982.

In August 2014 during his 63rd year Robin Williams committed suicide by hanging at his home in Paradise Cay, California.

His widow attributed his suicide to his struggle with developing Lewy body dementia.

My personal issues with his passing include the body of work he left behind and my inability to sit and watch them anymore.

It took me a long time to work up the ability to watch Bicentennial Man. When I hear examples of his schtick it sends me into a spate of sadness for all he was and that which he might have still become.

Rest in peace.

Jeffrey Epstein 'suicided' a Year Ago
    Jeffrey Edward Epstein
The sorry story of Jeffrey Edward Epstein involves high finance and sex offenses committed against young girls.

He died under spectacularly suspicious circumstances in the jail cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York, NY he was occupying while guards allegedly "slept" and were otherwise absent from their posts and surveillance video in the jail was disabled.

Forensics were inconsistent with the stated manner of death on official documents with all indications being homicide rather than suicide.

Epstein was a Financier, broker, educator, and socialite who engaged in a nefarious lifestyle of pampered excess at the expense of women ...

Many of whom were underage — and with whom he had supposedly 'consensual' sexual relations when in fact they were coerced and under duress.

These remote encounters involved people who were far from home, broke and removed from their families.

Such are the ways of justice in New York.

Should you ever find yourself in jail in Manahattan you'd better hope that you can't embarrass and legally compromise too many of the powerful or you might just find yourself 'suicided' as well.

It's like a page straight from the Clinton Foundation support manual or something equally heinous. Anyway, the guy was certainly no angel but he should have been safe while incarcerated at that abomination called the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan ...

In my humble opinion he was murdered by the same people who were supposed to be a part of that contingent of us who "uphold" the law. Nobody did anything about it after the fact either.

Bully thug strong arm robber Michael Brown
Michael Brown, was an 18-year-old African American male in Ferguson, Missouri.

He exhibited a distinct lack of raising in his multiple incidents of strong arm robbery.

These criminal episodes resulted in him being shot and killed on this day in 2014 by a Ferguson police officer after reportedly assaulting the officer then attempting to steal his service weapon.

Bully Thug Strong Arm Robber Michael Brown

Naturally, this resulted in protests and unrest in the city by a brigade of humans hired by George Soros to falsely proclaim Brown's innocence — even though he is captured on multiple security camera set ups in the area long after his dead thief criminal ass was placed underground where he can no longer victimize others.

Black lives don't matter any more than anyone else's. Burn in hell thieving thug criminal.

International Cat Day 2020
kitty
Not really having ever been a 'cat person' I have engaged my fair share of felines over the course of my existence. Some encounters were playful. Others adversarial. My chief complaint regarding the neighborhood cats is their apparent feeling of entitlement to come into my yard and take a dump whenever and where ever they wish.

This has resulted in several episodic retaliatory measures — some of which left me feeling a bit badly ... however, dominance in my yard is my own, not some neighbor's companion animal.

So when I take an animal to the shelter and leave it ostensibly for euthanasia I feel totally justified. Mama says how you can't contain a cat like you can a dog. I say you can sure kill them like a dog.

Anyway, today is International Cat Day. It is a celebration which goes down annually on August the eighth. It was created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare and is a vehicle for 'cat people' like Dr Phil and others to practice their gushing for a day and hopefully get it all out for the year.

Elsewhere, International Cat Day is also called World Cat Day and those responsible for it claim that the observation increases all over. There is some variation in the actual date of the observance, but not being one to observe it for the most part that does not affect nor interest me.

International Cat Day is designed to raise awareness for cats propagate ways to help and protect them. You can help our neighborhood cats by keeping them the hell out of my yard. Maybe you could have an international committee to come over and extricate the poop from my yard as well.

Yes, it would seem my kindness toward dumb animals definitely has it's limits and feline poop machines will never get their fair share. I have attempted to attain some semblence of tolerance in that I no longer trap them for transport to the shelter to be euthanized.

This, however may not be a permanent reprieve and I have no qualms with any manner of disposal of these vermin. My tolerance is out of respect for my neighbor across the street. She has a bunch of cats and I don't wish to make her unhappy.

Purple Heart Day 2020
    Purple Heart

We have another Purple Heart Day.

Observed on August 7 annually, it is a time for pause and remembrance to celebrate the service members who were either wounded or killed on the various battlefields defended by the United States.

We have the antifa agents who can't fight, only sucker punch or strike someone with a concealed baseball bat and run like the masked cowards they are.

We have the democrat morons who would degredate the memories of our war dead and wounded and diminish those honors to which they are due.

This is why we're heading for a day of reckoning.

There will be a time when those unscrupulous and immoral political agents in the Republic will be made to pay dearly for their disrespect, their scofflaw attitudes, their insane political leadership.

My late stepfather, Johnny H Pruett, earned the Purple Heart during the Tet Offensive in Viet Nam.

Upon his return the so-called 'hippies' harassed him at the airport on the West coast, throwing rocks and rotten fruit at him, calling him 'baby killer' injuring him upon his return in the best traditions of Hanoi Jane Fonda.

She and they never recovered from their foray into the land of traitors in the minds of patriots.

Antifa and the democrats will fare no better. We are here. We are watching. We remember.

God bless America.
