American Redneck Day 2022
    Redneck Sophistication
One of those terms with which I've been forced to wrangle in my life is "redneck". In the vernacular, it refers to a working class white person who is typically of overstated politics and hails from a rural area.

Now then, when this term was being leveled at me I was far from actually being a redneck. I acquired the label due to my resemblence to my father and I get the appellation quite honestly I can tell you — but it is purely based on physical appearance and those notions people think they perceive at a very superficial level.

July 3rd finds us in the midst of "American Redneck Day" according to conventional wisdom.

Anymore the redneck thing and it's associated culture has become increasingly popular.

Contrast this with the past when only poor white southerners living in rural areas were called rednecks.

It is said that a synonym for the word 'redneck' is 'hillbilly' but I beg to differ. While I am sure that the two cultures may cohabitate in certain individuals, we in the know realize that they are in fact two separate cultures and sets of customs joined together with a common countrified presentation.

I accept "redneck" in these my latter days for I am far too old to pick any fights unless absolutely necessary and will take on any and all disparagers with enthusiasm and whup up on them as required.

My issues with TOR nodes
TOR logo onion
Yeah, I hit the dark web every now and then. It's primarily a function of curiosity coupled with my deep respect for anonymity. I decline to purchase anything available there because I don't trust the ecommerce security of the environment.

Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.

My issues with TOR nodes surround log entries I have amassed whereby denizens of this space attempt all manner of exploits as though it were populated by nothing but criminals and riff raff.

Consequently I have written filters to exclude this traffic from my servers as a matter of self preservation. Some of the antics I have encountered over time have been amusing. Others very disturbing. The bulk of them all sophomoric and lacking technical merit.

So by all means, if you like the idea of what TOR represents, as do I, then go for it and hit the dark web with every onion router access at your disposal.

If you sense that the lack of character and scruples in the population, adequate backward compatibility, and feel a general abandonment of too much in the space then I would stay away.

Right now I'm fairly ambivalent. I don't like some of the little hacker idiots who think they can walk all over me. They are the reason I don't allow TOR nodes on my server cluster anymore. This policy was long in coming and the product of innumerable attack packets and injection attempts.

I do go onto TOR space sporadically but find the available content to be lacking with browser failures and stale URL cache in the onion search engines being the predominate experience. It's as though the space is designed for those who wrote it and that's it. Not being a back door netizen too much of the dark web fails to operate or have destinations to suit me.

I used to love to go shopping
    panhandling
There was a time when I loved to go shopping. I would walk around various stores impulse buying in an idyllic manner. Then my boss decided she would stop even bothering to schedule with me and assign work on an impromptu and immediate basis.

That pretty much put a stop to that and I put a stop to her by finally getting fed up with all the bullshit and resigning.

So much for idyllic, eh?

I never recovered that enjoyment I once felt for buying those things essential to my existence. Nowadays you go to Walmart and you're acosted by panhandlers who want a handout while you're there trying to SAVE money.

There is other panhandling at many of the intersections around town and even though it's illegal, that illegality is not enforced.

So now I park, get in in a hurry, and do not look around while traversing the parking lot.

Luckily I have a concealed carry permit which allows open carry in my state.

There have been a number of robberies in the local Walmart parking lots by hispanics who obviously aren't receiving enough entitlements from the democrats.

Law and order no longer prevail in South Carolina.

People drive 10 miles an hour while texting and nobody does anything. Yet it's absolutely required that they stop me for not wearing a seat belt.

homeless
I'm not callous to homelessness. I just cannot provide a solution and the local so-called "missions" responsible for such provisions aren't doing the job and indeed appear to make the problem worse. This leaves the homeless person to prey on me and my sense of sympathy and that simply isn't flying either.

Consequently, I'm losing respect for the keepers of the peace in these surroundings given the fact that they go after me instead of the "real" law breakers.

People panhandle me all the time yet I get fined for a seat belt violation.

It's as though they don't have adequate duties otherwise.

Asteriod and Meteor Days 2022
    Remnants of the Tunguska Event
Today we observe two astronomical observances, Asteroid Day and Meteor Day.

Normally I like to handle each blog entity with an article of it's own. However, since IMHO asteroids are outside the atmosphere and meteors refer to essentially the same thing falling through the atmosphere I felt fairly safe handling them as the same thing at different points in the heavens.

I'm sure there are astronomy purists who will disparage or find reason to dispute this thinking and I'm fine with that as well. Splitting hairs over the topic is simply insigificant to me.

Asteroid Day marks the large explosion which happened on that day in the sky over the Podkamennaya Tunguska River in Siberia, Russia.

meteor in the atmosphere

Known as "The Tunguska Event" it was a devastating impact the results of which remain visible as a scar on the surface of the earth.

NASA calculated it's entry speed around 33,500 miles per hour.

National Meteor Day is simply a vehicle for the encouragement of viewing the night sky on a regular basis just to see what you may.

One of these spectacular sights may be the viewing a falling star, or meteor as it traverses the atmosphere glowing from the friction it generates in the air.

You really can't go wrong by getting out there and experiencing your proximal part of that vast universe in which we are a mere speck.

National Camera Day 2022
    Hasselblad digital camera
Cameras have interested me since childhood. I had a Kodak Brownie I used to photograph the Jamestown settlement and colonial Williamsburg when I attended Aragona Elementary in the 3rd grade.

I had a super 8 movie camera when I was in the 7th and 8th grade at Horace O'Bryant Junior High School. I had a GAF-LCS 35mm and an Argus 110 when I was a stupid man child working the emergency room at Richland Memorial Hospital.

During my Navy years I had a Yashica TL Electro X which was a very nice camera until it was stolen after lending it to a friend.

So yes, though fraught with mishaps and sometimes purchased beyond my means, cameras have been significant to my life all along.

I fancied myself a decent photographer for the most part.

Today is National Camera Day. It happens each June 29 and is intended to celebrate photography and those devices which enable us to "write with light".

My camera needs now typically are handled by my phone. Whereas most had separate electronics with which to perform photography nowadays the capabilities of phones in cameras fit the bill for many by and large.

The Issues of Integrity and Conscience
F☠ck Woke
Our would-be immersive 'woke' culture seeks to have us abandon both integrity and conscience from our existence in favor of their wishes to present themselves as they fantasize themselves, regardless of that actual reality they possess.

The so-called woke culture is failing because the proponents lack the qualities of honesty and moral principle as they insist that some men are women and some women are men and that two people of the same sex are a viable family entity though lacking the ability to procreate themselves, that critical race theory is not some idiotic ranting of a misguided pseudointellectual fool AND — and moral uprightness can simply go to Hell.

Those inner feelings which should guide them to the rightness or wrongness of their behavior simply do not exist. They feel justified by how they "feel" as opposed to what is factually extant.

You cannot change your genetic makeup just because it's what you want. You cannot do anything but be some cheap fake of that which you pursue. No Chelsea, You DON'T got this dumb male in female's clothing. Stupidity and woke go hand in hand.

So as this failed concept of wokeness continues in it's excruciating death throes just remember one thing:

There are those of us who will terminate you with extreme prejudice if you cross us with the nonsense you choose for your lives. Keep your stupid preferred pronouns, drag queens, indoctrination agents in education, and nasty human selves away from us.

We are not interested in who you are or what you think and you simply do not have what it takes to convince or force your beliefs on us.

Leave us and our children alone sick deranged idiots.

Industrial Workers Of The World Day 2022
    IWW Logo
At first I thought this to be a traditional holiday, much like the erstwhile socialist original labor day of eras gone by.

However, Industrial Workers Of The World Day celebrates not just the worker — but the union that represents them.

I was never big on unions because of the history related to me by my mother regarding strikes and being hungry but unable to eat because union was on strike and lines could not be crossed resulting in children being left unfed and sent to bed on empty stomachs for extended periods.

My questions always surrounded the ideas of just who was protecting who in those difficult times.

Then there were heavy handed union tactics where Unions attempting to enter a workplace and their representatives acted in a threatening manner and stalked you if you didn't readily join.

Heavy handed approaches do not work well with a scrapper such as myself.

So when I finished kicking a select few of their asses in no uncertain terms — I resigned from where I was working ... after I made it abundantly clear that I would not be forced into joining anybody's union.

I believe that the unions are more political and less physically violent and coercive these days. I make all attempts not to knock unions because in the rigamarole which is employment, many times you find yourself at the mercy of less than ethical or even lawful individuals.

Industry and industrial roles may become obscured through the electronic presence much of us have. It's easy to forget who performs the manufacturing so essential to that lifestyle and quality of life available to us.

Industrial Workers Of The World Day draws attention to these workers and their role in the production of those goods we all seek.

The organization that represents them is known as the I.W.W., and they’re known colloquially "The Wobblies".

This is a day to appreciate industry and those who make it happen. Their representation grants them a hold in the marketplace where they might not have one otherwise.

Descendants Day 2022
Caesar the sentient ape
The last Sunday in June brings us Descendants Day.

It is a time to remember and honor the lives of your ancestors.

Typically this term refers to one from whom a person is descended and exists farther down the family tree in that line of descent than does a grandparent.

I didn't really know anyone who arose before my grandparents except some of their siblings.

I have one late grandfather I never met and another who never cared anything about me.

I had close relationships with both of my grandmothers who loved me unconditionally.

Suffice it to say that I really don't have any pertinent ancestor informaton, subjective or otherwise, with which to correlate any aspect of my familial existence.

I hope each and every one of your has done better with this than I.

Day of the Seafarer 2022

I was a sailor in the Navy during my impetuous youth. My duties involved the maintenance and operation of a missile system. I was on a warship in a "seagoing rate" with a rotation of 4 years at sea and 2 years ashore.

At the time I thought it a horrid job. You'd be surprised at how much you miss something you thought to be horrid at one time. Looking back, I could have stayed in for a career of 20 years and likely been better off than I am now.

However, that tobacco use I indulged in the accompanying lifestyle likely would have shortened my years considerably.

container ship

Today is the Day of the Seafarer, celebrated annually on June 25th under the auspices of The International Maritime Organization. The day recognizes the contributions seafarers make to trade and the international economy by conducting sea transport.

It was first celebrated in 2011 so this year will witness it's 11th observance. The life of a seafarer is not for everyone. I don't suppose I'm really the type for such a career, but find myself much more adaptable as time has progressed.

A thought on Roe v Wade
    pro choice

So the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v Wade and the proponents are up in arms.

They tout this "my body my choice" ignorance which is part and parcel of the "me" genre of personality.

Basically they are saying that I should be able to lay around and breed with anyone without consequence because I decide what goes on with my large spacious stretched out vagina.

Well, the only problem with this rationale is the fact that pregnancy results in another life for whom these people illustrate absolutely no regard.

pro life

This being said, all I can really retort is creating a new life has consequences which are now part and parcel of the state whereas it was once a federal right.

If you are so irresponsible that you fail to recognize that the products of conception matter in the equation you are too selfish to be allowed to have unfettered sex with anyone and everyone you encounter.

So failure of effective birth control now changes the rules.

Responsible copulation begins there.

Celebration of the Senses 2022
I believe I learned about the five senses early on in my primary education. I keep thinking the vicinity of Virginia Beach or maybe Hanahan, SC.

My strong interest in medical curiosa naturally lent itself to understanding the basic mechanism of the senses i.e., seeing, hearing, smelling, taste, and touch.

I have always prided my self on my sensory perception. I feel that I have the ability to both determine what is around me and it's potential for affecting my existence. There was a time I was intending to place all this high powered perception toward the reading of radiographs in some x-ray department ...

But that's another story.
The five Senses

Once I was oblivious to this diffuse input, opting for a nonreactive lack of interactivity; drab though it may have been.

Today is Celebration of the Senses Day. The day exists to remind us of our sensory abilities in an effort that they might be honed and sharpened as we progress along our journey.

Those sensory experiences in which we find ourselve immersed can sometimes be confusing in the absence of an experiential inventory upon which to draw.

This Celebration of the Senses Day is a good opportunity to utilize your senses to both sharpen your sensory perception and experience everything the world has to offer anew.

National Hydration Day 2022
    Brita pitcher
I have been known to drink less water than I should.

There have been numerous substitutions with various soft drinks and other beverages which are much less suitable, particularly in the realms of alcohol and fruit juices.

Today is National Hydration Day which makes note of how remaining well hydrated is essential to good health.

Water Carries nutrients and oxygen to our cells.

It Lubricates joints.

It diminishes the burden the on kidneys and liver by flushing out waste products.

Water assists with dissolving minerals and nutrients to make them accessible to the body.

Much of what transpires in the human body is conducted through that solution of water which permeates our tissues, provides for the various metabolic pathways, and indeed constitutes the bulk of our mass.

Becoming dehydrated is the cause of much those ailments afflicting the human body during it's activities of daily living.

In particular electrolyte balance is achieved through sufficient intake of water.

I try to drink several glasses of water daily in an effort to maintain good health without overdoing it.

Drinking too much water can dilute the electrolyte balance of the body and cause harm as well.

Moderation in all things.

Stupid Guy Thing Day 2022
Peter Griffin Frolic

So Father's Day was a mere three days ago last Sunday and now we have Stupid Guy Thing Day ... ?

Contrary to early on, I have made efforts to maintain a respectable demeanor since the presence of my current lady friend. I value her company and look forward to each and every interlude thereof.

Far be it from me to refute the presence of stupid guy things from my otherwise uppity existence.

Hmmm and just WHAT is a "stupid guy thing" anyway.

•  Giving the stink eye ?
•  Speaking in some unlikely Brit accent ?
•  Uttering some pat phrase like You plonker or
•  What's happening snapperhead ? ?
•  The death stare ?
•  Mansplaining ?
•  Busting a move out of the blue for no specific reason ?

I suppose that in all this maturity I claim to possess that it's all for naught because I do none of these things yet remain accused of doing stupid guy things anyway.

Must be karma or some other metaphysical residue I spew anymore.

Happy Stupid Guy Thing Day anyway.

Summer Solstice 2022
    solar photosphere

My pagan days ended long ago.

I once pursued knowledge of the Earth. Not the earth sciences but those carnal things which embody the realm of wicca and doing that which was elemental and sometimes very dark.

The term given to me by some was warlock. I never used the apellation myself.

Yes, I was once a student of those earthy rites of passage, legend, and lore but abandoned these for what I believe to be a more correct path quite early on in my journey.

Though I am far from perfect I strive to do better each day.

Today is the Summer Solstice.

Today is the "official" start of summer. The Northern Hemisphere of the planet is angled closest to the sun for the duration of the season.

This tilted alignment results in the longest day and shortest night of the calendar year.

Cultures throughout time immemorial are known to celebrate the sun with rituals and holidays corresponding to the advent of the seasons.

Me, I prefer just to sit back and observe. The universe is well beyond my abilities for anything more and I've done my time pursuing avenues better left untraveled.
