Respect for the Aged Day 2022

the cycle of life
As I grow older I find there is less that I know and more that I don't. Contrast this with my youth when I thought I knew a lot about most things.

I even knew a young man who was said to know everything about absolutely everything ... thank you Robbie !

All joking aside, my youth found my less than appreciative of my elders and I have grown to regret this mistake over the years.

It's the single most lamentable aspect of my existence as I sit and pine for those gone on before.

All that is left are those vaporous winds of the old days call memory. To think I had so much more and did not realize it.

Today is Respect for the Aged Day. It is held the Third Monday in September.

In Japan it is a public holiday honoring elderly citizens.

It all began as Old Folks Day in 1947 in the Hyogo Prefecture of Japan.

In 1966 it became a national holiday in Japan and was held on every September 15.

Since 2003 it occupies the 3rd Monday of September.

It is popular in Japan because the people there have an inherent respect and appreciation for the experience of the elderly.

I am a late bloomer in that regard.
