Shades Day 2025
gold sunglasses
The Brits have a holiday whereby they take pictures of themselves wearing sunglasses.

The popularity of sunglasses here in the states gives rise to thoughts of wearing them myself.

I recall the old days in California where everyone had glasses and a separate set of shades. A popular model were the 'diamond shades' with multiangular lens borders. They were ususally seen on the 'tough girls' of the area who liked to flaunt such accessories. Shades Day happens in Great Britain under the asupices of the Family Holiday Association on the closest friday to International Day of the Family which happens on May 15th this year. That would put it on the following day, May 16th.

Protection of the eyes from the sun's rays can be dated back to prehistoric times with the use of flattened walrus ivory to shield the eyes from the sun. In 1752, an English optician one James Ayscough began designing spectacles with tinted lenses for the same reason. Protection from the sun was not a prime consideration at that point in time. In the very late 1800s the first company to produce sunglasses with UV protection was Rodenstock GmbH (LLC). Nowadays UV protection is the prime consideration and reason for donning sunglasses.

Ancient historical accounts indicate that some judges also wore them to hide their facial expressions while questioning witnesses in court. In Venice, glasses worn by women and children to protect their eyes from the glare reflected in the water of the canals were known as "Murano glasses".

So whip out those shades and style them around town so you may be that trendy type you always were.

National Notebook Day 2025
    Leather Bound Notebook
I have a friend who is a prodigious taker of notes.

She maintains large leather bound notebooks full of her various observations and comparative readings of indicators during her many projects.

For this reason, I have bestowed several fine notebooks upon her on occasion.

Somehow the plain paper and wire bound notebooks seem woefully insufficient.

Today is National Notebook Day.

Held under the auspices of a stationery company called May Design since 2016 it is observed on the third Thursday of May, and this year making it May 15 this year.

The day would have people record their thoughts, events, and information in a notebook.

Those of us who do a lot of thinking and project oriented works should be equipped with a notebook or journal so total recall is less problematic.

Notepad++ Logo
I take a lot of notes myself. However, being the child of the information age I am I use a desktop program called Notepad++ instead of a leather bound paper notebook.

In fact, people who call the notebook computer itself a "laptop" only make public their ignorance of technology — as well as the fact that they haven't been around sufficiently long enough to know better.

Be all this as it may I hope you'll take a moment to procure the notebook of your choice and use it when you need to record data for future retrieval.

Om Day 2025
Om

I have read most of the works of T Lobsang Rampa.

His is quite a story which many find unbelievable.

I think the concept of taking over the body of another person to be quite the stretch myself.

However, I spurred my interest in Hindu mantra and thoughts of those things beyond the world we know.

One was Oṃ maṇi padme hūm̐ a sanskrit mantra which is profusely utilized in hindu religious practice named for the the Indian lotus (Nelumbo nucifera).

Today is Om Day.

It happens annually on May 14 and celebrates "creation" which is the meaning of Om such that it is a sacred syllable.

It is not a commonly used name in the United States but has a greater prevalence in Alaska.

Regardless, it is not a futile effort to engage the various mantra of the Hindu.

The Hindu are one of the oldest civilizations on Earth and likely were set here by those extraterrestrials we once called "The Elohim".

The entirety of the concept called religion is much more complicated that I had originally envisioned.

Om

Children of Fallen Patriots Day 2025
    Navy Funeral
There is nothing more tragic than to see a child who has lost his or her parent to armed conflict in the name of defending their country.

There are a number who are quite stoic and withstand those proceedings in the absence of a lot of emotion.

Then there are those like me who can't seem to curtail the tears ...

Even though my first personal loss came when I was 45 and didn't involve conflict; only lifestyle.

Regardless, when you lose a parent that age upon which the event occurs becomes telling on the personality of those left behind.

Some things simply cannot be comforted.

Today is Children of Fallen Patriots Day.

It is observed on each May 13 annually under the auspices of the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation since 2014.

The day is an attempt to honor the pain and sacrifice of children who have lost a parent to military martyrdom.

The objective is to appreciate the young individuals who live tragically altered lives due to a parent passing away in the line of duty.

May 13 was chosen as Children of Fallen Patriots Day because it was the day the Arlington National Cemetery was established in 1864.

George Carlin's Birthday 2025
George Carlin
Few comedian can equal the stature of George Carlin.

He was a favorite of mine from childhood.

I liked him because he did not tolerate the standard idiocracy we have come to know in present times with the stupid democrats and their attempt to subvert The Republic at every turn.

George Denis Patrick Carlin was an American stand-up comedian born in Manhattan, New York on May 12, 1937.

His purview was the realm of biting social criticism, acting and writing.

I am not the only one who regarded Mr Carlin as one of the greatest and most influential comedians of all time.

He was often known as a counterculture comedian.

I think that label fits the bill nicely in these sad times since his passing on June 22, 2008 from heart failure.

George Carlin will always be in my heart and admiration for those uncompromising aspects of his craft and his spectacular presentations of which I enjoyed many.

Happy birthday in Heaven and rest in peace.

Mother's Day 2025
Today is the day reserved to honor our mothers. It is the second Sunday in May in the United States. So I along with other children of mothers here take a moment to honor them for both giving us life and putting up with us for so long. My mother has put up with me for 70 years as of my last birthday last month.

Happy Mothers Day

I try not to be the handful I was early one. My mother loves me. She may be the only person left on the earth that does. I honor her for that reason most of all.

Happy Mothers Day !

Trust Your Intuition Day 2025
    intuitive little girl
Being an empath I am one to take note of the feelings of others. I have been known to become exceedingly happy at the drop of the hat. I have also cried in the presence of others for no apparent reason. This is due to those perceptions I encounter eminating from others. It is a double edged sword.

For example, I lost a friend long ago due to a recoil accident with a large caliber weapon and that mishap was perceived correctly by me when a news cast gave a thumbnail description whereby I called my director immediately and told her what I felt. As it turns out I was totally correct in what I thought had happened and the sad business of final goodbyes then became necessary.

While I sometimes experience personal embarassment being a "so-called" emotional man; it has also saved me other times from situations when I might have been injured or killed.

Intuition is a strong aspect of this characteristic. I have a long history of risk taking after conscious reasoning. I don't go there without sufficient pondering of those outcomes possible to the situation.

Bypassing this, I have also written some very insightful code by using deductions made by elimination of various elements from a set of facts. This reductive supposition has provided several avenues of AI branching that have been useful to my career over the years.

I am not a psychic medium, but I am fortunate to have the ability to read between the lines for the right decision in various times of need or wonder.

National Public Gardens Day 2025
Public Garden Vancouver Canada

I have always enjoyed a well kept garden. Public, private, or my grandma Ida's flowers in particular. The beautious plethora of color and foliage is something which has always appealed to my sense of enviornment and beauty.

Today is National Public Garden Day.

It is observed every second Friday of May so this year it happens on May 9 since 2009 under the auspices of the American Public Gardens Association in the name of taking note of those educational and psychological benefits to be had by visiting well maintained green spaces such as public gardens.

They tout green area preservation, plant and water conservation, as well as home gardening.

I remember the Smithsonian Arboretum was a favorite place of mine when I was a kid. I also recall an affinity for places with a lot of natural foliage like Blackfoot Idaho and Mare Island, California.

I'm also keen on the ornamental horticulture to be had in the tropical regions like Key West Florida where the fruit trees were abundant and the flowers as well.

So happy National Public Garden Day and I hope you get some inside a cluster of spreading baobab trunks or among the mango and papaya trees surrounded by banana leaves, birds of paradise, and hibiscus as I have in the past. Ah, those yesterdays when I was young.

The new Pope 2025
Robert Francis Prevost Leo XIV

The new pope is an american named Robert Francis Prevost

His papal name is Leo XIV.

He is critical of areas which do not concern him.

He strikes me as just another American Libtard in the mix and as such I hope somebody takes him out.

His predecessor was a heretic.

I will defer such severe critical opinion until I have more information on his theology.

However, his politics fail the test right now.

Boo Catholics.
Boo Robert Francis Prevost

No Socks Day 2025
    soles of two feets
Feets. We walk on them. Some of them are large others small. Some of them have various aromas while others are invariably sweet smelling. I have certain issues idigineous to adult onset diabetes which make foot care a priority with me. My issue is that the nail tech I had been using thought she was the customer. The relationship simply did not work out.

Today is No Socks Day.

It is an international observance held each May 8th annually. The concept of socks are a touch issue with some. I know people who like their loafers without socks. I know others who like thick white sox with sturdy shoes everywhere they go. Personally, I like clean white socks because they are healthiest for my foot care issues.

I've noticed that when I attempt to traverse the short distance between my house and my mom's house that my feet can barely stand the trip when I am barefoot. I chalk it up to the never ending array of shoes and socks I don each morning. Gone are the days of wandering without shoes. However, it is somewhat disconcerting to realize that if I have to get somewhere fast in bare feet I am in trouble.

So here's to my double knit white cotton socks. Covered feet are my modus operandi anymore. I'd like to do the barefoot thing but it's simply not in the cards at this stage of my life. Perhaps I can build up a tolerance for bare footedness once again. You know, aspects of my childhood such as this do return to haunt me on occasion.

Happy No Socks Day to you. Wear them if you want to. Omit them if you don't. I'll still be your friend however you decide your feet should be.

Bladder Cancer Awareness Day 2025
Bladder Cancer Awareness Ribbon
My beloved Auntie Laura passed January 15, 2022 from a rare bladder cancer.

She thought that she was getting good care but alas, she was being treated by some nurse practioner who was in actuality substandard care and didn't really have a grip on my aunt's condition as evidenced by the fact that she treated her for UTI when all the while she had sarcomatoid carcinoma of the bladder.

My attempts to take her to Baylor in Texas, whom I believe to be the last word in state of the art urology were declined by her with the admonition that she could "get the same care here" and before we knew it she was gone. It seems that the same care was not available locally.

Today is Bladder Cancer Awareness Day.

It is a May 7 ocurrence which is designed to teach people about bladder cancer.

    Auntie Laura
They say that when treated early it is highly treatable. When your care giver is a stupid oaf you're going to die an agonizing miserable death.

Good care for such cancer is unavailable in the Columbia area as far as I am concerned.

Find yourself a good practitioner and stay away from these nurses who think they know that which they do not know. Bladder Cancer Awareness is something people should know about because I rue the day that my aunt trusted the local bimbo nurse practitioner with her care.

The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882
President Trump and Xi Jinping

In these days of rampant Chinese espionage and the pilfering of intellectual property everywhere they go in The Republic —

As well as the ridiculous buying of lands to restrict our own people ...

There NEEDS to be a day of reckoning.

I am for confiscating everything China owns within the borders of the United States and forcefully ejecting any and all Chinese from the country.

This business of letting our adversaries take undue advantage of our citizens needs to come to a rapid and decisive end. This appears to be primarily the fault of elected officials on the take. I'm also for nuking Tiananmen Square while we're at it ...

On this day in 1882 Congress passed the Chinese Exclusion Act. It was the first major federal law in US history to restrict immigration based on nationality. It disallowed Chinese laborers from entering the country and also banned Chinese immigrants from becoming citizens.

This act was a significant step in the history of immigration policy and set a precedent for future discriminatory laws based on race and class. People like to act like discrimination is a "bad" thing.

     chinese flag on fire

I am discriminating. I don't go for the dull and commonplace. I don't like the worst elements of other countries coming here to live like the democrats promote in the name of getting them on the dole and voting for the democrat assholes who support them.

The Chinese Exclusion Act was the first significant law restricting immigration into the United States. In the spring of 1882, it was passed by Congress and signed by President Chester A Arthur.

With it came an absolute ten year ban on Chinese laborers immigrating to the United States.

I'm ready to exclude the evil intellectual property thieving ass espionage seeking chinese as a matter of policy once again. God bless America. Death to China. Death to the thieving Chinese. Stop their malicious incursions, espionage, and stealing
of our property.

National Cartoonists Day 2025
Dave as the monstrous
In elementary school I was an amateur cartoonist among other things.

I would sketch and draw and all my books were converted to flip books with crude animations and you'd wonder how I got along at all as this legend I became in my mind.

Those were the days in Virginia Beach Va and Hanahan SC.

Those days having long gone I now find myself primarily a sketcher and a writer.

I can't really draw anything but I can take something drawn by others and turn it into something altogether different.

Today is National Cartoonist Day.

It is observed annually each May 5th since 1999 under the auspices of the National Cartoonists Society and celebrates those persons who, unlike me, can really do it.

If you doodle, if you just mess around like I do you too can be a cartoonist.

The genre is based on the output not the quality. If it looks cartoonish ...

Guess what !

World Laughter Day 2025
    Laughing Toddler
When I was a child I thought I was a comedian.

Yes, I thought I was funny. Others thought I was funny.

I did a lot of laughing back then.

After which the seriousness of life prevailed upon me and the laughter grew less and the seriousness far more.

Today is World Laughter Day.

Having originated in Mumbai, India on January 11, 1998 it is observed on the first Sunday of May making it May 4 this year.

There are many kinds of laughter.

No matter if you

•  cackle,
•  belly laugh,
•  guffaw,
•  bray,
•  break up,
•  chortle,
•  chuckle, or
•  giggle

these acts cause biofeedback whereby the brain releases endorphins — hormones which activate the body's opiate receptors resulting in an analgesic effect and happy feelings. So though I'm not nearly as funny as I once thought I was, I still recognize that laughter will help you physically, emotionally, and physiologically if you engage enough of it.

Happy World Laughter Day and I hope it eases your ills.
