World Laughter Day 2025

    Laughing Toddler
When I was a child I thought I was a comedian.

Yes, I thought I was funny. Others thought I was funny.

I did a lot of laughing back then.

After which the seriousness of life prevailed upon me and the laughter grew less and the seriousness far more.

Today is World Laughter Day.

Having originated in Mumbai, India on January 11, 1998 it is observed on the first Sunday of May making it May 4 this year.

There are many kinds of laughter.

No matter if you

•  cackle,
•  belly laugh,
•  guffaw,
•  bray,
•  break up,
•  chortle,
•  chuckle, or
•  giggle

these acts cause biofeedback whereby the brain releases endorphins — hormones which activate the body's opiate receptors resulting in an analgesic effect and happy feelings. So though I'm not nearly as funny as I once thought I was, I still recognize that laughter will help you physically, emotionally, and physiologically if you engage enough of it.

Happy World Laughter Day and I hope it eases your ills.
