National Public Gardens Day 2025

Public Garden Vancouver Canada

I have always enjoyed a well kept garden. Public, private, or my grandma Ida's flowers in particular. The beautious plethora of color and foliage is something which has always appealed to my sense of enviornment and beauty.

Today is National Public Garden Day.

It is observed every second Friday of May so this year it happens on May 9 since 2009 under the auspices of the American Public Gardens Association in the name of taking note of those educational and psychological benefits to be had by visiting well maintained green spaces such as public gardens.

They tout green area preservation, plant and water conservation, as well as home gardening.

I remember the Smithsonian Arboretum was a favorite place of mine when I was a kid. I also recall an affinity for places with a lot of natural foliage like Blackfoot Idaho and Mare Island, California.

I'm also keen on the ornamental horticulture to be had in the tropical regions like Key West Florida where the fruit trees were abundant and the flowers as well.

So happy National Public Garden Day and I hope you get some inside a cluster of spreading baobab trunks or among the mango and papaya trees surrounded by banana leaves, birds of paradise, and hibiscus as I have in the past. Ah, those yesterdays when I was young.
