International Clouded Leopard Day 2025
clouded leopard
The Clouded Leopard is a mid sized wild cat. It has a distinctive clouded pattern of dark blotches on its coat. It is native to Southeast Asia.

Clouded Leopards are primarily arboreal, and spend much of their time in the trees. They are highly skilled climbers and can ascend and descend head first without difficulty. They lead a solitary lifestyle and are considered vulnerable due to threats like hunting and habitat loss.

Today is International Clouded Leopard Day.

It happens each August 4 annually since 2018 under the auspices of Lauren Amos and Dan Kemp as well as Howlett’s Wild Animal Park. It is obsered in the name of awareness of this, one of the most beautiful and endangered species of animals in an effort to improve their numbers both in captivity and in the wild. So if you ever see one of these beautiful animals you are a lucky person indeed.

Happy International Clouded Leopard Day and I hope the day becomes one of your days.

Psychic Day 2025
Debbie Creagh psychic
I have been impressed by a number of psychics. Some others ... not so much.

There is a distinct difference between reality and charlatan imposters who would present themselves as something they are not.

Today is Psychic Day.

It goes down on the first Sunday of August annually and celebrates psychics all over.

The psychic skeched is one Debbie Creagh from Bangkok, Thailand. My personal experience does not cross international boundaries.

Now then, this being said — what about those "less than psychic" interlopers of whom there are many occupying storefronts and touting abilities available for a fee.

I personally have no need for psychic readings via the phone, at home, or at psychic fairs.

My own empathic abilities preclude being taken to the cleaners by some fake touting that which they can't do.

What began as a publicity stunt has blossomed into a calling for those who hear and those who see and those who know without being told.

My mother once had a reading by the late Rev Mary Green on Fish Hatchery Road in West Columbia SC while I was on active duty in the Navy. She told mom what I was up to and aspects of my existence I had not shared with her in such vivid detail that I was astonished. I certainly was not accustomed to having my facts disclosed beyond my ability to control them as she did.

Only problem is the discernment required to know who is real and who is not. I for one have my own ideas regarding the validity of psychic ability and I don't force these on anyone. You have to decide for yourself what you think.

The debunkers are also part of the problem. Many of them go where they are not knowledgeable and this in turn clouds the issue to a large degree. Is is real or is it memorex ?

Happy Psychic Day and I hope your choice is the right one.

National Coloring Book Day 2025
    coloring page
As a child I loved coloring books.

The ravages of growing up in a hostile world caused me to lose the attraction and as a young adult I no longer took coloriing books for being serious endeavor.

I had a friend who carried them around with her and would coerce others to color pages in them.

I noticed that the other people did much more detail oriented and better jobs than I did and it was a personal embarassment.

I always had envisioned myself as "artistic" up to that point.

So those inclinations have past — along with she — who was a good friend until one fateful day when we parted company.

Oh, the humanity !
Today is National Coloring Book Day.

It is held each second of August and is a vehicle for the proposition that coloring books and coloring in general promote wellness and relaxation.

There is even a lively market for adult coloring books, though I will never view them as something I would covet.

So if you are so inclined it is said to be highly therapeutic to color but watch out for those would-be psychologists who would affix labels to everything you do.

I have no designs on being a great artist anymore.

This is partially due to coloring books and that waste of time I view them as being.

However, I do not rule the world and if you like you should color to your hearts content.

Happy National Coloring Book Day to you.

National Wellness Month 2025
yoga

Wellness is the possession of and pursuit of health and the absence of illness.

It consists of mental, physical, and emotional well being.

Every August, National Wellness Month encourages individuals to make self-care a priority, build healthy routines, and support their mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

Whether you’re focusing on hydration, movement, mindfulness, or simply slowing down, this month is your reminder to put yourself first.

National Wellness Month is held under the auspices of Live Love Spa since 2018. A month to take inventory of your health state and be self aware.

There are health "experts" as well as health "enthusiasts".

There is a frank difference such that you should note those differences between them.

Enthusiasm does not necessarily equate with expertise as some people appear to feel.

Wellness esssentials may include medications, supplements, and/or devices. It goes beyond to steress reduction and eating well.

So if you're so inclined place yourself on a month long wellness challenge.

Try to evaluate where you are, where you are going and just what state you find yourself in.

Here's to your wellness.

National Mutt Day 2025
     mutt

Every dog I ever had was a mutt.

These mixed breed animals were all to which I had access.

I loved each of those I ever owned beginning with Bootsie in Hanahan, SC.

Then there was Baby Angus in the Hollow Creek community of Salley, SC.

Finally, Mae in West Columbia, SC. She was the daughter of MacDougal which may have been the most intelligent dog to ever live.

Mae was a intellect powerhouse in her own right as well. She understood English and could consistently respond to various commands as though she were human.

Today is National Mutt Day.

It celebrates mixed breed dogs twice annually.

The day goes down today, July 31 as well as December 2.

I have no qualms with mutts as pets. I don't think a $7,000 price tag makes an animal more suitable at all.

If you are of the notion — you too can own a mutt for a fraction of the cost of a pedigreed animal.

Happy National Mutt Day and be on the lookout for the next National Mutt Day on December second.

I'm likely to miss it.

World Snorkeling Day 2025
Snorkeling

My snorkeling heyday was in that time from 1967 through 1969 while I was in Key West, Florida existing as a Navy brat. I went swimming most days including Christmas Day and typically wore fins, a mask, and snorkel in the shallow areas around the island. A couple of my most favorite places were "The Jarhead" which was a boat ramp on the North side of Sigsbee Park where we lived and the Enlisted Men's Beach on the Naval Base a few miles to the South of where we lived. It was an idyllic time which also induced failure in my school work because I was distracted most of the time.

So I ended up doing things like making straight As on tests only to fail due to those zeroes a lack of homework submission added to the fray.

Today is World Snorkeling Day. It is observed each July 30. It promotes the joys of swimming with assisted breathing without air tanks and compressors and such.

I was a big fan of snorkeling back in the day. I was also an excellent swimmer back then as well. Regardless of how you take to the water I hope you'll have a happy World Snorkeling Day if the notion strikes you. There are far worse ways to spend your time in the warm weather near the oceans.

Rain Day 2025
A walk in the rain
I make it a point to enjoy the rain.

Something about active precipitation just increases my energy and makes me want to grab the umbrella and court all the generalized wetness around me.

Others may shun the rain for impeding their schedule or messing up their clothes.

I celebrate the rain as an essential in the existence of the Earth.

This brings us to yet another Rain Day.

The day has been the inspiration of a pharmacist from the 1800s named William Allison.

Rain is an amazing phenomenon whereby the water from the sky is returned to the Earth as part of the water cycle.

Water is essential to life. That may be my biggest attraction.

World Nature Conservation Day 2025
    Seedling
I have always viewed conservation as a significant issue in our day and times.

This is why when I went to Peachtree Rock in the Edmund community of Lexington County, South Carolina I was disturbed to see someone actively cutting the bottom of the coral formation with a hand saw in a persistent attempt to permanently damage it.

This went on for a very long time without intervention by the SC Nature Conservancy — which I now view as a piss poor steward of our natural resources that should be disbanded for their lack of concern.

Boo lamers. This action of an insipid inbred vandal involved the deliberate destruction of or damage to public property and for all appearances you were totally indifferent.

The effects were the toppling of Peachtree Rock.

The SC Nature Conservancy simply allowed it to happen with indifference and ignoring the situation.

Today is World Nature Conservation Day.

It is held each July 28 annually in the name of preserving a healthy environment and natural resources.

All I can say is the SC Nature Conservancy is not concerned with managing our natural resources and should be abolished.

National Scotch Day 2025
Aberlour 16 Year Single Malt Scotch Whiskey
Yes boys and girls in a younger day I was known to partake of a snootful every now and then.

I became a fan of brandies and single malt scotch whiskies and this went on from about my 25th year til my 50th or so.

This activity was typically accompanied by the smoking of cigars.

On occasion a large there was the inclusion of a large glass Turkish hooka.

Today is National Scotch Day.

It celebrates what used to be one of my favorite liquors.

Nowadays I have a line on a fine example of single malt Scotch called Aberlour.

I try to treat a friend with it rather than turn it up myself.

I have become a fan of retaining some of undifferentiated liver cells in my old age.

Be all of this as it may July 27 is the day and since I am of maternal scottish derivation I suppose God's in His Heaven and all is right with the world.

Happy National Scotch Day.

It's Jason Statham's Birthday
    Jason Statham
I have been a fan of Jason Statham for a long while now.

I like his action movies and his propensity to take up the fight for the underdog.

The fact that his particular variety of ass kicking is positively spectacular is neither here nor there.

He is a British actor known for his tough, gritty, or violent portrayals.

His genre is action thriller and he really knows how to kick ass and take names.

His work is something I will indulge even in the absence of any recommendation.

I cannot count the times he has compelled me to jump up and cheer his action sequences.

I look forward to as many films as he will produce in the coming years.

Today is his birthday.

He was born July 26, 1967 making him 58 years young today.

Happy birthday to you !

System Administrator Appreciation Day 2025
server farm
I was a systems administrator.

I worked in the company of Dell/Microsoft cripples who didn't have much of a clue regarding any aspect of information technology outside those two companies.

There was little troubleshooting. No repair. All of those facilities I valued most in my skillset went to waste.

I left there with nothing but hard feelings and animosity toward a group of people with whom I should have never associated myself..

Today is System Administrator Appreciation Day.

It happens on the last Friday of July. That makes it July 25 this year held under the auspices of a system administrator named Ted Kekatos since 2000. It supposedly celebrates the professionals who are working around the clock in order to keep our information management machinery running.

System administrators are people who take care of installing and troubleshooting anything and everything related to Information Technology. They also are tasked with technological advancements as they pertain to the workplace and the act of upgrading all devices toward that end.

It is too bad that far to many of these so called professionals are technically inferior. Luckily they are relegated to incorporated municipalities where the less capable run the show.

National Refreshment Day 2025
peach fizz refreshments
I've always been one to participate in refreshments. I have sometimes set the spread but mostly just partook.

I feel that a light snack and appropriate drink in an air conditioned space adds to the freshness of mental and physical strength —

Particularly when there are presentations to be given, parts to be played, and acknowledgements to receive.

Today is National Refreshment Day.

It happens the fourth Thursday of July making it July 24 this year.

It is held under the auspices of the company Traveler Beers since 2015.

The day draws our attention to the much-needed destressing tasks we require for that for peace of mind and a healthy body many of us seek in lieu of being simply drained and exhausted.

It is IMHO a productivity mechanism.

So whether you give or receive the refreshments just know this day is for you.

Happy National Refreshment Day !

Corenswet's Superman Open all over the place
I sure hope that it's good. I could use a good superhero movie for a change.

With the damage Disney has done to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with their idiot woke dullard heiress Abigail Disney attempting to run things.

I could SURE use a break from stupid plot lines and character changes.

As a child of the franchise since very early childhood all I can do is thank my lucky stars they're not involved in this project.

Director  James Gunn
WritersJames Gunn, Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster
