Twelfth Night 2023
The Nativity
Twelfth Night is celebrated 12 days after Christmas — either January 5th or 6th. It primarily depends upon when the counting started which is either Christmas or Boxing Day.

Epiphany Eve as it is known falls on January 5.

Twelfth Night marks the coming of Epiphany which is the Christian feast celebrating the manifestation of the divine nature of Jesus to the Gentiles as represented by the Magi and is traditionally held on January 6.

Some traditions say Christmas decorations should be taken down on the Twelfth Night to avoid bad luck. Alternatively, you may keep them up until Candlemas on February 2, or the Twelfth Night of the following year. Seems rather involved.

I took ours down on Boxing Day, aka Saint Stephens Day.

Twelfth Night (also known as Epiphany Eve) is a Christian festival on the last night of the Twelve Days of Christmas, marking the coming of the Epiphany.

Some traditions mark the date of Twelfth Night as either 5 January or 6 January, depending on whether the counting begins on Christmas Day or the day afterward.

Popular customs of Twelfth Night include eating king cake, singing Christmas carols, chalking the door, having one's house blessed, merrymaking, and attending church services.

I likely won't be doing any of that either ...

Weigh In Day 2023
    choose your bomb
The bathroom scale and I have had a love-hate relationship all my life ... mostly hate, I might add. Having a chronic problem with corpulence and body weight; not to mention the body image which goes along with it I was a late bloomer in the physical attraction department.

Actually, I feel in retrospect that I was picky beyond my capabilities in that regard. There were a number females early on that I rejected for various reasons I have come to question in later years. It simply didn't feel "fair" to them or me in retrospect.

Likewise I haven't been the impetuous man child I was for a long time. This too may impact the situation and my orientation to it.

So now in my advancing age I'm either less concerned or more the attractive physical specimen given my ability to interact with the female of the species and attain some modicum of grace and stature in their eyes.

Actually I simply believe I have aged less severely than many of my counterparts who opted for the cigarettes and liquor whereas I took the nutraceuticals and hormone replacements, enzymes, and performed the exquisite hygenic maintenance — so I am frequently told I don't look as old as I am.

However, they could just be joshing me.

Be all of this as it may today is Weigh In Day. It is an annual celebration held each January 4 immediately following the year end holidays whereby we get to take stock of our stockiness and allow push to come to shove or just leave things as they are.

Personally, I don't see the day as a mechanism for "getting back on track" as I jumped all of that long ago so all I do anymore is simply be myself. Besides, I engage others in my age range as a matter of preference and they are less critical in general.

There are also a number of interpersonal skills which come into play. You'd be amazed how surprised some of the women are when they fully realize the actual scope of what I can do.

Happy Weigh In Day and I hope you're not the hippopotamus someone got for Christmas.

Women Rock Day 2023
The Wilson Sisters of Heart

Some of my favorite rock stars over the years have been women.

Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart
Shirley Manson of Garbage
Pat Benatar
Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders
Tina Turner
Joan Jett
Stevie Nicks
Debbie Harry
Patti Smith

I remember moments sitting there in the audience wondering where all the riffs and licks being belted out originated. I remember the wild applause. I remember coveting their attentions otherwise as well.

So today is Women Rock Day. It is held each January 3 to honor the women of Rock music and to take note of them in all their glory !

While I hear mention of these women being pioneers of their art I prefer to simply refer to them as veterans and I will always take a moment to hear them out.

Women Rock !

55 MPH Speed Limit Day
    55 MPH Speed Limit Target

Today is 55 MPH Speed Limit Day. It commemorates the fall of 1973 whereby President Richard Tricky Dick Nixon issued an executive order mandating a 55 mph national maximum speed limit. It received a one year continuation the following January.

President Richard Nixon started it.

President Jimmy Carter made it worse.

The 55 mile per hour speed limit was a blight on the land in the name of some "fuel efficency" concept which really wasn't there.

So the stupid politicians are allowed to punish the taxpayer and subject us to their stupid law breaking whims ... often by decree in likes of the lamer Biden and his regime des idiots.

Can I get a DUH stupid human beings running The Republic into the ground ?

The present administration not withstanding Jimmy Carter was the SINGLE stupidest president yet.

Richard Nixon was merely a crook, but not stupid.

Regardless, the 55 mile per hour speed limit was a stupid idea propagated by those who would take undue liberties with we who pay their salaries.

I don't observe any 55 mile per hour speed limits these days because I decline to be some stupid dolt in the vein of Jimmy Carter.

I'm not a crook like Richard Nixon either.

The Biden administration with their innumerable woke morons is FAR worse. The democrats need to go.

New Years Eve 2023
New Years Eve 2023

Auld Lang Syne

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And surely you'll buy your pint cup!
and surely I'll buy mine!
And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

We two have run about the hills,
and picked the daisies fine;
But we've wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.

National Resolution Planning Day 2022
New Years Resolution List

Today is National Resolution Planning Day which is all about getting that head start on goals and resolutions for the upcoming new year.

Though I was in the past, I am not now normally one to make a lot of new years resolutions.

This is because I'm more of a spontaneous individual and I am aware of my problem areas and attempt to address those along and along.

I don't view the new year as a fresh start at this point in my life — more so a continuing work in progress.

Regardless, I think that those attempts at self improvement are a gallant effort for any person and should you feel the need to make resolutions you should do so in accordance with that which you feel about yourself.

Happy new year and good luck on those resolutions !

Tick Tock Day 2022
    17 jewel clockwork
Tick Tock Day is a reference to complete any unfinished tasks remaining as the year ends.

The clock is ticking away as it were ...

This reminder is your two day warning to get to it without further delay.

Of course, this is all relative to just how much time weighs into your 'to do' list.

Being retired, it no longer weighs too heavily upon my own.

Fortunately, I am not nearly the procrastinator I once was.

Anyway happy Tick Tock Day and I hope you're not too delinquent with your goings on.

The clock is ticking for us all !

Pledge of Allegiance Day 2022
pledge of allegiance
A hallmark of my public education was the Pledge of Allegiance.

We dutifully recited it as we stood before the flag with our right hands over our hearts.

There were some in my classes who did not participate for various reasons ... none of which are the stupid woke iterations of the present.

It instilled patriotism within me which has stood the test of time.

This is why I fight against the woke culture who are anti everything American.

It's why I will continue to fight the stupidity of woke culture and that unamerican perverse country they seek to create.

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America
and to the Republic for which it stands,
one Nation under God, indivisible,
with liberty and justice for all.

National Fruitcake Day 2022
    fruitcake

I have liked fruitcake my entire lifetime.

While I admit to being a 'fruitcake bigot' as it were early on, I am happy to report a cultivation for the various flavors afforded by different recipes I have been permitted to taste over the years.

The candied fruit and nuts permeating a fruitcake appeal to me personally. My exposure to less mainstream recipes happened over time primarily from interacting with coworkers.

I recall my mother making fruitcakes then steeping them in rum and recalling how I couldn't taste the booze at all.

I also once had a piece of fruitcake that burned all the way down.

•  I like dark cakes.

•  I like light cakes.

•  I like any combination of more fruit and more nuts.

•  I like any combination less fruit and less nuts.

•  I even like those more exotic varieties.

Things like cakes that don't appear as the traditional 'fruit cake' ... such as those my late grandma Ida used to make from time to time and set upon the dinner table.

Today is National Fruitcake Day. Whether you're a fan of the mainstream fruitcake or one of those exotics December 27 is your day to get out there and experience those flavors which piqued my interests early on.

Happy National Fruitcake Day !

National Whiner's Day 2022
unhappy baby
I remember the old Saturday Night Live way before they became the woke monstrosity they are presently. Piscopo and the real professional comics could ply their craft on we who were just there for the laughs.

There was a bit called "The Whiners" which aired every now and then. It was about a family of complaining human beings who were so funny with their incessant yammering.

So now we have a day set aside for whiners.

It corresponds to Saint Stephen's Day on December 26.

So if you feel the need whine on.

I would but it never does any good for me personally.

Happy Whiner's Day.

Christmas Eve 2022
December 24 brings us yet another Christmas Eve, that day which immediately preceeds Christmas Day. As I reflect upon all that which has transpired on this day during my lifetime I remain in awe of all that I have been given atop the ultimate gift of being born and allowed to live.

A Merry Christmas to you all.
