Yom HaShoah 2020

We Remember - Never Forget
   Oskar Schindler
Today is Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance Day; aka Yom HaShoah.

It is observed by Israel and the Jewish diaspora to honor the heroes of the holocaust.

Those like Oskar Schindler, "righteous of the nations". I wonder just how many realize the honor of that designation by the entirety of the Jews of the world.

It's mind boggling. Then to be the only member of the nazi party to be afforded the right of burial on Mount Zion. I would be immeasurably honored to be held in a small fraction of such esteem.

So I am relegated to the rest of the gentiles who are not holocaust deniers who simply note:

We Remember.
Never forget.

On this day the Jewish of the world note the six million or so of their people who perished horribly at the hands of the Third Reich in World War II. The actions of Nazi Germany and it's collaborators are called to answer for their crimes against so many innocents for whom they had no mercy.

The day also notes the Jewish resistance for that period and the fact that many chose not to go quietly into the night but fought their oppressors to the bitter end.

The first official commemoration took place in 1951 and the day became codified into Israeli law in 1959.
