The Narcissistic Selfie Culture

I was reading a very interesting piece on c|net which discussed a University of Toronto study of "the selfie" and more so ... those who take many of them.

There was this statement that those who indulge many selfies over a period of time may lure themselves into believing they are more attractive than they actually are.

The U of T study involved the taking of selfies along with shots by individuals involved in the actual experimentation. The selfie takers were then asked to judge their own attractiveness if the photos were to be posted on social media.

Then another 178 independent judges were involved and posed the question as to which photos suggested the most narcissism.

It seems that although persons who took many selfies thought themselves more attractive than the participant judges, the photos taken by the judges themselves were preferred over the selfies taken by the other participants by and large.

Something about the nature of beauty and being stuck on one's self has me feeling mighty glad that I'm so doggone naturally pretty.
