Today is the feast of Good King Wenceslaus of Christmas time legend and glory.
He was the son of Vratislaus I, Duke of Bohemia. His mother, Drahomíra, was the daughter of a pagan tribal chief.
His family was Christian since the conversion of his grandfather and baptism of his mother and he was educated by his grandmother and the college at Budec.
He was Václav the Good and duke of Bohemia until he was assassinated on this day in 935 by a contingent which included his younger brother.
His martyrdom gave rise to his status in the Church with a reputation for heroism and good works.
He was declared a King and was recognized as the patron saint of the Czech state.
Today is his feast which commemorates his ascension.
His claim to fame is Saint Stephens Day and the Christmas holiday season.
