That was then and this is now

5.25 inch floppy
Once upon a time I thought I knew everything about technology ... at least everything that needed knowing. This was the world of MS DOS, dBase III, Lotus 123, and Microsoft Word. It was a finite environment and I was it's master.

That was then and this is now. Nowadays there's just too many different permutations, myriad vendors, and infinite algorithms. Alas, I have become that thing I used to despise most: a specialist.

Nowadays I spend my time doing a small subset of what's available and I'm doggone happy to be reducing the transient thought wave to that mild roar it remains between my ears.

All through the din of what we do now compared to what we did then I wistfully remember the old days when a handful of products were all that existed and I thought the world could fit on a five and a quarter inch floppy.

Fancy that.
