I just subscribed to another ad free service called 'Shudder' and was watching the theatrical version of Salem's Lot, that miniseries starring David Soul, James Mason, and Lance Kerwin which was made for television and released the year my hitch with the Navy ended ... 1979.
It's about a novelist and a young boy who liked horror genre films who attempt to save a small New England town called Salem's Lot from an invasion of vampires. It was quite scary back in the day and conceptually remains so.
Needless to say it is quite a bit more in the way of drama and build up than I recall but it has been quite a few years since my last (and only) viewing and it's a bit of personal nostalgia so I'm gleaning a good amount of enjoyment from it all nonetheless.
One of those shocking aspects are the changes David Soul has undergone. You know, as if I'm not equally changed and shocking myself.
The beauty of my new Roku collection is the absence of services supporting their endeavors with ads. I would much rather pay more subscription for no ads personally. It's a ecommerce phobia I believe.
Those services like Sling and Philo are repulsive to my tastes. I just don't like the ads for some reason. These two in particular think you need to watch 10 minutes of ads for every 5 minutes of television it seems.
That ugly spectre of continuous lengthy commercial breaks simply isn't happening if I can help it.
I don't know what I'll do if services with "no ad" tiers cease to be available. Likely this will result in the rise of a DVD era in my lifetime and I'll will pursue the ultimate DVD jukebox or something.
Be all of this as it may at present I'm pretty happy with those services I maintain. I had to drop Youtube Premium because they have this need to propagandize the experience with the tainted clips of their choosing. One false dislike and they all of a sudden suppress those news outlets you want to watch.
I simply terminated them with extreme prejudice within the month trial because I decline to put up with their overbearing leftist libtard crap. It was sad because I used to indulge them a lot and felt the need to give them part of my entertainment budget ... but they asked for it and I was just the one to let them have it.
