Texas Independence Day
My beloved late maternal grandmother, Sallie T. Johnstone was from Texas. Her many reminiscences left me with a feeling of love for and solidarity with Texas, and indeed I am a Texan by lineage if nothing else.It's Texas Independence Day, which celebrates adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence on March 2, 1836.
Signed by 59 delegates, the document makes known that settlers in Mexican Texas are officially declared as independent from Mexico creating the Republic of Texas.
