In my locale there is a recreational area call the Riverwalk which consists of parks with paved walking trails winding through the woods on both sides of the Congaree River.
It has been known to and used by me for a long time now and I once went there every day for exercise.
At that time which was early in the project, the West side of the river bank had not been completed and I primarily concerned myself with doing brisk laps of the City of Columbia side. I was really into the exercise regime for quite a while.
Rain or shine you could find me there trudging the paths and the walkways in search of that elusive level of fitness I pursued.
I became good friends with a Columbia policeman who was mounted on a white mare and we would have a nice chat most days. I think the horse even grew to tolerate my presence better over time.
Nowadays I'm not out there getting exercise and I'm afraid my feebleness grows exponentially as a result.
Today is Take a Walk in the Park Day which goes down each March 30th as a mechanism to encourage us to engage exercise and improve health without going to a lot of expense. It was founded to allow people to commune with nature and engage the natural beauty to be found in the great outdoors.
I hope you can take the opportunity to go walking through a nice wooded park the next time it arises. I brings a peaceful calm to big burly high strung type A technophiles such as myself.
