In all our idiotic role reversals based on males thinking they're females and females thinking they're males ... today is Sadie Hawkins Day.
A recurring theme through out my life, it stems from Al Capps Lil Abner comics which found their way through the threads of my existence since before I was in 1937 until about 1978 when I was in the navy crusing the Mediterranean.
The pretext was gender role reversal whereby women and girls went after the men and boys for dates which was not really done during much of the time frame.
Due to popular demand, what began as a simple non recurring episode of the comic strip turned into an annual observance for the bulk of 40 some odd years.
The Old Farmer's Almanac even marks the celebration as being held on November 15th of each year and it has been the topic of legend and lore through the eyes of those various Lil Abner comics and movies which have come around over the years.
