On January 4, 1863 the world received 4 wheeled roller skates in the form of a a patent issued to one James Plimpton of New York.
Now while those first versions involved straps and "keyed" clamps to hold them onto the shoes, by the time I came around we had a new iteration called the 'super skate'.
I got a pair of these one Christmas and I swear I became a skating afficinado before everyones eyes.
These skates had a spring mechanism and large toe and heel braces to keep them on the feet and I simply loved them.
They were the sturdy rough and tumble addition every little boy needs when in the mood for a little competition or action fantasy.
So in these days of in-line skates, ice skates, and all the other skates you can think of ...
Back in the day there was the super skate and that was my personal preference and one I used daily for a long period of my childhood.
