When I was a kid the game show circuit was not lost on me. There were two campy fellows with a schtick which was unmistakable with their quick wit and humour. One was Paul Lynde. The other was Charles Nelson Reilly.
Charles Nelson Reilly had all manner of engaging gayness for the public. Back in those days I was considerably more tolerant, dare I say that I was equally tolerant just more attuned to these homosexuals in my life but back then it was a personal matter which wasn't flaunted before the public like the flaming queens of now can't resist.
He was just funny and that's all that mattered to me in my tender young uninitiated persona and lack of worldly prejudice which I would attain much later after the Navy.
Charles Nelson Reilly II was born January 13, 1931 and passed on May 25, 2007. He did acting, comedy, directing, television, and was a farily famous drama teacher in those thespian circles to which I once aspired so long ago.
He was somewhat of a cottage industry on the game shows of my childhood and I would engage him on the teevee as circumstances permitted.
All in all he was that kinder, gentler person I wish I had been able to cultivate beyond my redneck ways and need to thump the gourds of other people. There's a lot to be said for kinder and gentler anymore.
