A week or so back I ordered the latest iteration of the Roku Ultra.
My existing unit was working fine but it was quite a few years old and I felt a hardware recycle couldn't hurt.
My new unit arrived today with the Roku Ultra, quad core processor, bluetooth, Voice Remote Pro 2nd Edition, a USB-C charging cable, power brick, and HDMI cable.
It took every bit of 5 minutes to factory reset the old unit then install the new one ... even though the steps have changed.
They had a number of preloaded apps. I imagine companies pay a fee for this consideration. I ended up removing everything except those things I have paid for myself. I'm pretty particular with apps and as long as you're not Tubi you have the same chance everyone else has to remain on my network. Tubi can go straight to hell for the whiny stupid NOTHING provider punk bitches they are.
While I'm fine with the new unit, I felt the remote was quite a bit FROU FROU for it's operational requirements — and it makes the entire experience somewhat pussified. I had purchased a new remote only a couple of months back and I kept that in the mix as well.
I was surprised at the level the machine pushes voice control. I am suspicious of such goings on and decline to activate anything in the way of voice control. It's simply not germane to my existence from an entertainment standpoint.
So here's to technology upgrades ... even if they piss you off a little.
