It's a memorial for those 2403 US citizens who were killing in the Japanese surprise attack at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in 1941 resulting in the United States declaring war on Japan the following day and thrusting the country into World War II.
It's been the stuff of history, lore, movies and all those things people engage as mechanisms of rememberance.

It is the day my father was layed to rest at Clinton United Methodist Church in Salley, SC with a service handled according to his wishes and the thought of which still makes me cry.
In life there are many difficult things beyond our control and it's sometimes a hard to recognize the difference between that which we can change from that which we cannot.
Those frailties which constitute the human condition leave us only able to do the best we can for those we love.
So in actuality, while the US flag is being flown at half staff in honor of the victims of the surprise attack it is appropriate that they also fly there in memory of my daddy.
