Paul Mooney RIP

  Paul Mooney

On Wednesday, May 19, 2021 one of the funniest men on the planet succumbed to a fatal heart attack at his home in Oakland, California.

Paul Gladney aka Paul Mooney was a comedian whose trade in stand up and television was second to none. He passed at age 79.

His humor was an acquired taste and those insecure types who take offense at the slightest provocation likely did not have the vast appreciation for him that I did.

He was born August 4, 1941 in Shreveport, Louisiana to George Gladney and LaVoya Ealy.

He attributed the bulk of his raising to his grandmother Aimay Ealy who was known as "Mama" among his family members.

It is said that "Mooney" is a nickname coined after the original 1932 Scarface actor Paul Muni.

Paul Mooney was a comedy writer extraordinare who eventually performed sketches and his schtick was based on racism in the United States. He could make the most infuriating topical data look hilarious.

He achieved great renoun for his use of the n word taking heat for it — and he even announced that he would stop using it. I'm not entirely sure that change was ever fully in effect.

Regardless, the world will be a long time seeing another as totally and unabashedly funny as Paul Mooney. Rest in peace.
