His life spanned somewhat longer than 39 hours and there were extreme heroics involved in trying to save him which were to no avail.
This child was the younger brother of Caroline and John Jr, my contemporaries and so I naturally had empathy for them and their family.
Plus, I was an engaged, patriotic child as many Navy brats find themselves as we are immersed in those militaristic aspects of life and my perspective had been cultivated from them.
Little did we know at this sad time that his father, President John F Kennedy would be murdered in a Dallas motorcade a scant three months later.
